About to send this to mine, thought I'd post it in case anyone can see any glaring errors, I'm not someone who generally writes to MP's 😊
Dear XXXX,
my name is XXXXX and I live at XXXXXX which is within your constituency. I will lead with the fact that I did not vote for you at the recent election, I desperately wanted to and wrestled hard with my decision but in the end I felt I simply could not vote Labour this time. I am generally very much not a single issue voter but Labour's poor record on defending women's rights and safeguarding in recent years seems to me to be too fundamental an issue to ignore.
During the election campaign and since coming to power there have been some very encouraging signs that sanity is beginning to return to the Labour party. I was delighted to read today that you intend to renew the ban on prescribing puberty blockers to children for gender dysphoria and very much hope that will become permanent. I was also encouraged to hear the Prime Minister's recent comments on safe spaces for women, though with some reservations that he did not use the term 'single sex' which of course means biological sex rather than chosen gender, a fact which needs to be at the heart of all policies and laws in this area.
There is much work to do I realise, in this and all other areas but I am writing to ask for your support in ensuring women are centred when making/changing policy which affects our rights and freedoms. Women's voices have been silenced for too long on issues which impact us enormously and we need to ensure women are fully consulted and represented on matters which materially affect our lives or those of our children. Many women have lost faith in the Labour party because of their stance on gender ideology, I very much hope that faith can now begin to be rebuilt with a continued shift towards acknowledgment of women's reasonable concerns and objections and a sensible approach to solutions which are fair to everyone affected.
Women as a sex-class need certain rights and protections to enable us to participate fully in public life and those rights and protections are being eroded by gender ideology, as is the safeguarding of our children. We need the Labour party to step up now, acknowledge that we have legitimate concerns and create an environment where everyone's voices can he heard on this issue. I hope we can count on your support and that women will be able to vote Labour without reservation at the next election.
Yours Faithfully,
XXXXXXX
