If anyone is interested this is the article I mentioned upthread, although I misremembered it was in the New Statesman not the Times

https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/2024/06/david-lammy-doctrine-interview-jason-cowley

https://archive.ph/DNAkA w-all about me...n

I didn't even see any mentions of his mum. His dad, who died a homeless alcoholic after abandoning his family when Lammy was twelve, but not his mum who (unless I'm seriously missing something) must have really stepped up.

David Lammy has identified himself as a Feminist, doncha know!

Do stand down. Everything he says is Right and Right for Women.

If Lammy identifies as a feminist does that mean Farage identifies as Gandhi?

As long as he is really sincere 👍

maltravers · 03/07/2024 14:53

From the clip he comes across as a bully and a misogynist. How dare you question me in that way woman journalist…

Shortshriftandlethal · 03/07/2024 14:59

The idea of David Lammy as foreign minister with the world the way it is at present is, frankly, deeply concerning.

Rightsraptor · 03/07/2024 15:07

In the clip, Lammy says the subject of our rights never comes up on the door step. Ever.

Are there any Tottenham voters on here who could put him right on that, in a very embarrassingly public manner if at all possible?

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 15:24

What with this, and Rayner doubling down on WPUK and AllianceLGB being hate groups, who on earth would vote Labour? I mean, they're not even pretending, are they?

Shortshriftandlethal · 03/07/2024 16:13

Lammy has displayed very poor judgement, and a volatile temper. He's not going to take well to being grilled at weekly PM's questions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/07/2024 16:14

Completely agree.

Completely agree.

He's not going to impress any foreign leaders or their counterparts, by banging on about being the decendent of slaves, as a reason not to engage with challenging issues.

i wonder if Starmer will do a re-shuffle or has he said ministers will keep their current roles?

UpThePankhurst · 03/07/2024 16:18

Who does he have that's any better? Seriously?

I'm struggling..........There doesn't seem to be much genuine talent, nor gravitas....very thin on the ground.

Well to be fair the tories have lasted all this time on the least talented bubch anyone has ever seen.

Cooper77 · 03/07/2024 16:49

Didn’t David Lammy claim Britain fought Hitler to save the EU?

duc748 · 03/07/2024 16:54

Piece by Hannah Barnes in the same edition saying "Starmer must expect that JKR is right: Labour is failing women". Andrew Marr, of course, finds this of piffling importance compared to the big grown-up issues that Starmer and his ministers will have to grapple with.

Though, Boris Johnson, love him or loathe him did have some gravitas on the international stage...and was a big supporter of Zelensky...who certainly seemed to rate him.

Seriously, where is the gravitas on the Labour front bench - maybe apart from Rachel Reeves?

Johnson has the gravitas of a clowns red nose!!!!!!!

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 17:02

Well, he does speak Russian, which is pretty impressive

You can keep saying that...but he did have some state craft, and Zelensky certainly seemed to respect him.

Boris Johnson comes from an international family...and his great uncle was a political activist in Ottoman Turkey - for which he was murdered.

I'm pretty certain someone posted on here to say she'd brought it up on her doorstep with him - this was last time he said it never happened.

LizzieSiddal · 03/07/2024 17:42

I’ve read recently and apologies I can’t remember where, that Lammy will not be Foreign Secretary. I very much hope it’s true. He comes across as an aggressive bully.

ScrollingLeaves · 03/07/2024 18:04

Littlewhingingfucker · 29/06/2024 07:42

Does that go for the Tories who inflicted the trans shitshow on the UK? I mean who can forget Theresa May's policy of Self ID and the writing of genderwoo into a Maternity Bill.

So we should forget about what the Lammysaur said in 2021 because its old, but we should remember what Theresa May did even though she was toppled as PM in 2019?
Edited due to my fat clumsy fingers

And should we forget that in spite of Theresa May, the Conservatives pulled right back on self-ID and stopped Scotland going for it?

zibzibara · 03/07/2024 18:47

David Lammy, 2024: "I stood up in parliament and argued for same-sex marriage."

David Lammy, 2004: "Marriage is of course an institution for opposite-sex couples. It has always been so, and the Government intend it to remain that way."

UpThePankhurst · 03/07/2024 18:54
No Way Wtf GIF by Harlem

Not all gay people wanted or agreed with same sex marriage, its not quite the 'I'm a good guy' virtue signal he thinks that is.

And he's now 100% behind a political ideology that doesn't tolerate homosexuality.

PickleC · 03/07/2024 19:13

I mean there is an honesty in the list of issues he will give a crap about before he even deigns to consider women's rights. Maybe when they are all solved through the world there will be 5 minutes of his precious time before something else crops up and knocks us back down the list again.

The sheer arrogance of a man supposedly walking into a top job affecting millions of lives in a few days time and dismissing 51% with a wave of his hand.
