I keep my GC credentials close to my chest but a friend has just told me this and I am so furious I had to share here. (I NC’d for anonymity as this is not my DC).

My friend’s DC has a friend that they have known since primary school. This friend has is now non-binary and changed their name. My friend’s DC, in all innocence, has used the name they have known their friend as for their entire life and has been excluded for dead naming and it has been cited as a hate crime.

FFS.

Thank you, @Datun , and we do, but bandying terms about and accusing teachers is unhelpful and can cause anxiety for some parents.
I understand that if someone hasn't been in school for many years, and gets information from threads like this and the Daily Mail, they may get a jaundiced view.

I get that. I'm just not sure why it would matter, if the school their children were at had teachers who were holding the line.

A jaundiced view can be dispelled just by not adhering to the ideology.

But, like in every other place, I bet that's a lot harder than it sounds.

But yes, the press does give the impression that it's rife. No doubt.

And I'm sure there's a difference between a non binary girl peer group messing about with hair dye and a policy which lets the boys use the girls loos.

If it reassures parents: boys will never be allowed to use girls loos.
In such instances they are allocated separate provision eg the disabled one, or the one adjacent to the medical room.
Let's dispell that rumour!

But they are already. Men are permitted to change in woman’s changing areas in the NHS in Scotland. It’s happening.

Worth reading this article about a school that referred a gay boy to prevent for protesting about being called queer and there are "two genders," and he's "against trans," after being bullied. Also bullied for being Jewish with kids making comments about school showers being like the gas chambers. When he stated that he'd like to see Hamas gone, prevent came knocking.

Some schools really do not understand any of this. It should never have been sent to prevent. They did at least say a report should be made to the police about an assault he received at school.

I'm a teacher too. I know colleagues who understand the ins and outs and others who really don't. Luckily slt are sensible.

There is no way that a teacher, primary or not, doesn't realise the difference between exclusion and internal exclusion/suspension/isolation

Actually I didn't know the term internal exclusion as I'm in SEND and we do not use that language to describe how we manage extremely unsettled behaviour. nor do we practice (what I believe is) "internal exclusion."

Children in our setting get names and pronouns wrong all the time too.
