I like that the newspapers aren’t mincing their words. They’re all calling him a child rapist.

Yes. I approve of child rapists being called child rapists. Representing their country in the Olympics not so much. Glad the crowd showed their displeasure.

He is "almost proud with gratitude" for the Dutch team? In that case, I am extremely proud of the British media for calling out this nonce. And as for the photo of him shedding crocodile tears...

He's a child rapist, and convicted one. Beach volleyball goes on almost all the time, but the Olympics put a spotlight on him, and I'm pleased it did, the argument that no one noticed during his other championships was irrelevant as it's a niche sport, so we wouldn't see. Now we did, and the Dutch have a lot to answer for in picking him, and it put a spotlight on their laws. I wonder what other Dutch athletes, particularly women, let's say Femke Bol and Sifan Hassan think.

Actually his teammates are very happy, they have been quoted saying what a nice guy he is and he is kind now, i really think that’s how they put it, and he is married to a Police Officer and has a son and he thinks its very unfair to them particularly, he doesn’t mind for himself, he did think of not taking part, but you know I want what I want for me me me and my status as an athlete acknowledged and why are you bring up this stuff about a girl when Ive been in prison and suffered and now you are all making my family suffer just because i want to be in the Olympics , everyone is so selfish why wont you leave us alone, la la la la, selfish, narcissist pdf file

Did anyone compare his sadness against that of the child he raped and his wife's sadness (remembering she chose to be with him) against that of the girl's family, who did not have a choice.

Lots of sympathy for his child, though, no-one wants to grow up with a child rapist for a father and a mother who is Ok with marrying a child rapist.

I think he is mostly outraged that they showed a photo of his wife in the photo. That went "too far" apparently. If there were threats made against his wife and child for instance that would be abhorent, but as far as I can see he is just deploying them as a human shield. Oh yes, and they even "published the name of his father" apparently. Well, yes you did bring shame on your family. Just a mn who doesn't want to accept responsibility for or the consequences of his actions.

Also - the wife has a big social media profile and is constantly posting lovey dovey photos of her husband and child on instagram where it is publically available. All the Mail did was reproduce one of those loved up photos in the paper while being very careful not to show the child. This is outrageous apparently. They both have a really fucked up sense of morals and don't come across as the "nice" people his team mates claim.
