Because he has served his sentence.

Oh well, nothing to see here then eh?

INeedAPensieve · 26/06/2024 10:32

I have no words.

This is absolutely horrifying.

Doteycat · 26/06/2024 10:35

ageratum1 · 26/06/2024 09:46

Because he has served his sentence.

And you are ok with that?
Thats fucked up that is.

misscockerspaniel · 26/06/2024 10:36

ageratum1 · 26/06/2024 09:46

Because he has served his sentence.

I don't think that a parenting forum is the place for you.

drspouse · 26/06/2024 10:38

How is he allowed to be around underage athletes?

RiverF · 26/06/2024 10:40

OMG, I was hoping it was going to be a case of two children, still far from OK with her so young, but maybe an excuse for some of the leniency.

But no, that's text book grooming, by an adult of a child

FranticFrankie · 26/06/2024 10:45

Disgusting
if he had one ounce of remorse, he’d do the decent thing and resign.
With a grovelling apology-
but there’s more chance of a porcine aeronautical display than that happening

Bumcake · 26/06/2024 10:47

What an absolute turd. Shame on him, and all who have allowed him to get to the Olympics.

BucketBouquet · 26/06/2024 10:47

PuttingDownRoots · 26/06/2024 10:01

He doesn't like to be referred to as pedophile.

Thas what happens when you knowingly groom and sleep with a preteen girl. You are known as a pedophile.

I bet he bloody doesn’t! Pity he never thought about that before sleeping with a 12 year-old!

krustykittens · 26/06/2024 10:47

ageratum1 · 26/06/2024 09:46

Because he has served his sentence.

That might be an argument if he had been rehabilitated. But he seems to have no remorse for what he did and he only has pity for himself. He groomed a child, his crime was premeditated and history shows he will do it again. This is not someone who has had his slate wiped clean. This is a predator.

BucketBouquet · 26/06/2024 10:52

ageratum1 · 26/06/2024 09:46

Because he has served his sentence.

But should he be allowed to compete in the light of this clause?

Every Paris Olympian is required to sign an Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration, with point seven demanding: “Act as a role model.”

As other posters have pointed out, he has not acknowledged his crime and has claimed he should not be referred to as a paedophile. Does that sound like he has learned anything from his punishment, or could be considered a role model in any way?

BucketBouquet · 26/06/2024 10:53

How is he allowed to be around underage athletes?

This is another very important point - the authorities owe a duty of care to underage athletes.

cupcaske123 · 26/06/2024 10:54

"Everyone can have their opinion about me, but it is only fair if they also know my side of the story.”

He was convicted of grooming and raping a child. What is he talking about?

4 years is a joke. And I agree, he should not be on the team. There's enough abuse is sports.

UpThePankhurst · 26/06/2024 10:57

I wonder how that multiply raped little girl is coping with life now and what impact this has on her, as he is show cased in representing his country as the best of the best, and tells everyone he's a good guy?

ChaToilLeam · 26/06/2024 10:58

If his teammates have any integrity, they will refuse to play with him.

Vile man. He should be thoroughly shunned by all who encounter him. He is not in any way a fit person to represent his country.

I think it's beach volleyball. Teams of 2?

fedupandstuck · 26/06/2024 11:07

Reports of the trial at the time state that the girl had self harmed and attempted suicide. I hope she has been able to get help and put her life back together in the years since the original incident. I also hope that the publicity around this criminal doesn't set her back or cause her further harm.

His duo partner has been playing with him for years, so he clearly has none.

the sentence is an absolute joke and the fact he just gets to go on his merry way and be an Olympian is disgraceful.

a child has to live with this for life, the disruption for doing the crime was a tiny amount of time.

LakeTiticaca · 26/06/2024 11:15

I can't imagine on what planet this would be deemed appropriate.
I can't imagine his team mates wishing to play along side him.
I can't say I'm too surprised though about him being permittedly to compete by a sports body who think its acceptable for men to falsely claim medals by pretending they are women 😬

ArcaneWireless · 26/06/2024 11:19

Because he has served his sentence.. Aye. A disgustingly short sentence.

It still doesn’t make him anything other than a paedophile in my eyes.

Unfortunately those who have chosen him to represent his country think otherwise.

myotherdogisadonkey · 26/06/2024 11:23

Holy Feck. Shame on those who allow THAT anywhere near a sports competition. Poor girl. What message is that giving to our girls? 😭

Because he has served his sentence.

You nuts?

gardenmusic · 26/06/2024 11:25

Other teams should refuse to play this Dutch team.
But they won't.

Kuol · 26/06/2024 11:29

BeachTeam NL on instagram have turned off the comments on the post announcing him and his duo partner as on the team, you mustn’t call a rapist a rapist but it’s fine for them to represent your country.

Yes, every single person involved in allowing this paedophile to go to the Olympics is likely retruamatising that girl.

She will already likely have a life sentence, many child abuse victims do, and now - on a world stage - multiple people are condoning what her abuser did.

It is beyond disgusting this has been allowed. I'm torn between boycotting the Olympics (and telling everyone why) and going there to chant 'paedophile' at him every time he plays (probably can't afford the latter, so the former it will have to be).
