I don't understand what makes actors so bloody well qualified to comment.

Who are they really? just grown ups who make a living playing dress up.

If people stopped treating them like they were gods, maybe the ignorant little fuckers would stop behaving as if they are the fount of all knowledge, graciously bestowing it from on high on the poor little mortals who toil in the sun.

I think this might be pertinent here

David Tennant - Wishes Kemi B would ‘shut up’
WickedSerious · 25/06/2024 18:02

OvaHere · 25/06/2024 17:16

I find it interesting he picked on Kemi. Yes he's a big Labour guy but he along with everyone else knows the Conservatives are unlikely to be in government next week.

I think Kemi is just a convenient substitute for the woman he'd really like to have a pop at, the one who's made countless headlines in the last week and shown Labour up to be a bunch of misogynistic twerps. The fellow Scot who just won't wheesht for Labour and might actually damage their majority a wee bit and presumably a former friend.

Come on Dave, do you dare go there?

He might as well jump into a meat grinder.

BeverForget · 25/06/2024 18:03

It's always men in skirts that have the biggest problem with women...

IGuessIllbetheFirst · 25/06/2024 18:06

Have voted labour all my life and don’t agree with Kemi’s views on other topics - but on this one, I am grateful for just how articulate she is in standing up for women’s rights.

I read a post on here a while back that said once you realise how little the left actually value women - yes, we are just great support humans for the all important men’s rights - then it is a shock and an eye opener, which you can’t then unsee. So true and so sad.

motheronthedancefloor · 25/06/2024 18:06

Doesn't matter what her skin colour is, or her party. You can disagree with someone but saying they shouldn't exist is crossing a line.

MaidOfAle · 25/06/2024 18:07

NiceCutRoundDomeDormice · 25/06/2024 15:08

She’s a senior politician. She chose to put her head above the parapet. Would you be boo-hooing if someone had said this to Michael Gove or Jeremy Hunt?

You can’t be putting yourself forward to be Prime Minister one minute and then crying you're a poor helpless oppressed little thing the next.

Did she actually cry anything?

All I'm seeing here is other women outraged on her behalf, and rightly. Telling any woman to shut up isn't a good look.

RedRobyn2021 · 25/06/2024 18:08

Not surprising really, I believe one of his children is queer. It's understandable this would be his stance and in his defence he does always make sure everyone knows he owes a lot of what he has to his wife, which he absolutely does. So it's not as though he's telling her to shut up because she's a woman, it's because he doesn't agree with anything she says.

Just for clarity, for the lurkers, Mr Tennant also said: "until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore… I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

To be clear, he wishes her to shut up until she is dead.

Sorry no time to read whole thread now, but if this is what he said, why isn't he being given the media onslaught when some other conceited white man, wished the same on Diane Abbot.

It doesn't matter whether you support KB's politics, or think she isn't a good constituency MP.

No one, particularly a white man should be allowed to say something like that in public and not be challenged.

Unfortunately the media has as much integrity as our politicians.

Shame not to use the opportunity to title this thread "White man says Black Woman MP shouldn't exist".

Not only accurate, but google etc., love to promote headline like this to the top of their search results. And that gets other people's attention!

Ohyoudodoyou · 25/06/2024 18:12

People like him will have the hardest time doing their 180. It will happen though.
There's been such a massive spotlight on the issue, and no going back now for so many people.I look back to when I first started questioning some of the things I was reading (Barbie Kardashian, anyone ) and my rapid realisation that we'd all been caught sleeping on the job!

Allie47 · 25/06/2024 18:13

The problem with actors who play characters that have some substance to them, is that they start believing they are indeed this very wise character, when in real life they're usually ill educated and uninformed twats 🤷‍♀️

She isn't. So by your way of thinking, someone like Jo Cox, an MP willing to put her head above the parapet and was brutally murdered as a result obviously deserved everything she got?
I firmly believe that all MPs should have the right to speak their minds without fear of being wished dead, regardless of their political persuasion. I’m a lifelong Labour voter who disagrees with many things Kemi says, but her voice on the rights of women is absolutely spot on.

CheltenhamLady · 25/06/2024 15:38

My point was the accusation of racism against Tennant seems unfounded to me, it is the role and idealogy that he dislikes, not her race. I can't understand why the term has been used towards him. Is everyone who criticises a black person guilty of racism or can they just be guilty of having differing views? I hold no truck with DT and his views, but to say he is racist undermines the reality of the issue.

He didn't just say that he disagrees with her. He said that she should "shut up".

A white man with £millions telling a Black woman to "shut up" is never a good look.

Ohyoudodoyou · 25/06/2024 18:17

I'm glad of Kemi's stance on this issue, she has been clear and concise. Unlike many of the male MPs.

So because she chose to speak up and out on an issue which she deems important it is fair and reasonable for a white, male actor to wish her out of existence (ie dead) and to shut up until that point is reached?

Incredible how people are so terrified by women speaking out and daring to have opinions. They must be vilified and silenced at all costs and they deserve it. Well done on your gold star misogyny.

I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls. A rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology he can’t see the optics of attacking the only black woman in government by calling publicly for my existence to end…..

Tennant is one of Labour’s celebrity supporters. This is an early example of what life will be like if they win. Keir Starmer stood by while Rosie Duffield was hounded. He and his supporters will do the same with the country. Do not let the bigots and bullies win.

I know not everyone's on twitter so have pasted in her post.

But sadly she is getting a lot of hate in response.

Just one saying:

"How are Tennant's comments different from what Tory donor, Frank Hester, said about Diane Abbott? Why isn't there the same outrage?"

Exactly, same old hypocrasy by the patriarchy whether politician, media or twitterati.

How very true. A long time ago I had personal experience of this with a man who behaved very much as if he was still in character in the musical that made his name. He had a bee in his bonnet and was not going to let it drop. Very common with Stars, I expect.

She's getting hate because she is a black right wing Tory woman - everyone knows that if you are black you should be left wing!

He's insulting her for applause. To make others that hate her happy. They all hate women that disagree with them. It's a celebration of women hating.
