I find it interesting he picked on Kemi. Yes he's a big Labour guy but he along with everyone else knows the Conservatives are unlikely to be in government next week.

I think Kemi is just a convenient substitute for the woman he'd really like to have a pop at, the one who's made countless headlines in the last week and shown Labour up to be a bunch of misogynistic twerps. The fellow Scot who just won't wheesht for Labour and might actually damage their majority a wee bit and presumably a former friend.

Come on Dave, do you dare go there?

QueenofTheBorg · 25/06/2024 17:17

Shame on him. And good for Kemi for her response on X

Personally think part of the reason she grinds many people's gears is because she's not being the 'right sort' of black woman, and because she espouses views that apparently mean she isn't "really black" - because black people are all supposed to naturally align with the left or with Labour. She knows about Critical Race Theory but she doesn't buy it. That is not permissible, apparently

So very true.

DT can confidently stand up and say things like this because he moves in circles only with other people who think the same. He is so supremely confident he is the 'Good Person' because he has no engagment with people who think differently and is easily able to dismiss them as <insert degrogatory insult which suggest people are bad here>.

This is a the tactic of the left, you see it on here: e.g. today "I loathe Nigel Farage becuase he is a <misogynist>". Whne asked how do you know he is a misogynsist the answer was : "becuase he supports Trump and he's a <misogynist>". The irrational reasoning is both proof they are a Good Person and that they are very 'bright' (meaning I went to Uni and learned the right things which is really what they mean by very bright).
The derogatory label passess as a short hand for Bad People.

DT also thinks that anyone who doesn't agree with him (who he never meets) are <thick >and also probably <racist> (Bad People) who he would never speak to anyway.

Again you see that on here with the discussions around politics. No need to engage in discussion we already know who the Bad People are becuase they are <insult menaing Bad People>.
The circuar reasoning being a sign of the intelligence of the Good People you see.

DT is an epitomy of the left elite bloke, and he has no idea he is. He just thinks we all hear: I am a Good Person.

Also did anyone cringe that his wife 'educates' him??

Well Farage has been disparaging towards women and supports woman haters such as Trump and Tate Reform want to get rid off the Equality Act which amongst other things, protects women.

The good/bad binary can be seen very clearly on this thread. He's been accused of child abuse, racism, intent to kill, woman hating. He's got a non binary child, perhaps he feels protective over them. Most parents support their children.

He told a politician to shut up. Look at the vitriol.

porridgecake · 25/06/2024 17:22

His child is 9?? That is awful.

I think this is true.

However...

I also think that implying that Tennant, or guys like him, shouldn't disagree with her because she's black is hugely problematic, unless there is specific evidence.

He may be a twat, but he is allowed to agree with a member of the government on policy, and in a robust way, whatever her sex or race. He shouldn't need to pussyfoot around it with her any more than with someone like Nigel Farage.

I am all for calling out their CRT hypocrisy when appropriate, but I don't believe in ID politics so I am not going to use them as a tool to criticize others'actions.

He may have no choice as he has now firmly planted himself on her radar I would have thought - I hope that she goes for him because it would be well deserved. Twitter could get interesting!
What a complete prick he is.

ManyATrueWord · 25/06/2024 17:25

Dave Tennant is anti women's rights and he tells a black woman to shut up? Funny that.

tobee · 25/06/2024 17:25

David Tennant says he has "a skin in the game" and that it's " family."

David I have a fucking skin in the game as I am a woman. It's also family for me as I have a daughter. Why is your skin in the game more important than mine?

Do not agree with Badenoch on most things but I do not want her to shut up.

KB just chucked that back at him because it is his own world view and supposed values - she is a very capable and strong woman who knows what she's about.

That was a long pause - after he said he wished she didn't exist anymore. I expect he realised that what he had said sounded terrible, so he added the next backtracking bit about not wishing ill of her.

Yeah, doesn't wish ill on her, but wishes she didn't exist. It's about as coherent as the ideology he supports.

Wishing a black, female politician, standing up for women's rights, didn't exist, and parading your nine-year-old trans child around, is not an optic that is going to wear well, in my opinion.

Which ever way you look at it, it's not what I would call the right side of history.

I can't wait for JKR to comment.

What's the betting that when it comes to her, he's the one who'll shut up.

Windymoore · 25/06/2024 17:33

Shortshriftandlethal · 25/06/2024 13:48

Kemi really grinds the gears of many people to the extent that Labour is trying to encourage tactical voting in order to oust her from her relatively safe seat.
She's the woman who says what she thinks and says it convincingly - and people really don't like to hear an articulate and confident black woman airing views and positions they don't like. She's a major threat and they know it.

I do hope she's not 'Portilo-ed': parliament needs her

That's literally all they've got.

'SHUT UP'

Seriously, that's it. Nothing more. Shut up you stupid, inconvenient Karens.

It's very stupid of such a prominent figure to choose his words so carelessly in light of political violence and violent rhetoric that many MPs face no matter which party or views they represent.

Saying shut up is one thing but wishing her to not exist is a step too far. Imagine if some lunatic took him at his word. It's dangerously close to 'will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?'

I think the optics of publicly wishing a financial, and a Black woman should shut up and ' not exist' is terrible, especially as a White man. He didn't argue with her or debate with her, he said she should not exist, and seemingly had no concept of why that would look bad. He has played right into her hands in his desperation to silence anyone who disagrees with transing children and has got a well deserved slapdown.

Justme56 · 25/06/2024 17:45

I didn't realise that Tennent once played a TW (Davina in Rab C Nesbitt). Do wonder how that would go down today?

OP posts:
SlipperyLizard · 25/06/2024 17:46

What a horrible man. Just because he has a “non-binary” child he thinks he can publicly wish a prominent female politician was dead?

Misogynist prick.

Kemi and the black community are calling this out as a racist attack, perhaps you should listen to black women before wading in 😒

David Tennant - Wishes Kemi B would ‘shut up’

I can understand why race is being brought into it as he didn’t just disagree with her view, he said he wished she didn’t exist.

Datun · 25/06/2024 17:54

He won't like the implications being made.

And he is utterly incapable of entering into any kind of discourse with her about it.

In all fairness, most people are.

Because Kim is right, 100% right. Women are right. There is no rational argument to be had. And he would be a fool to try it.

But he might now be goaded into the attempt because of people's reaction.

Bring it on.

And he thinks he's kind?
