Well this little fucker ain't going anywhere anytime soon Davey boy. I assume boy is the best description for someone with your selfish, ignorant immature behaviour.

"Harming no one" always ends up meaning "harming no adult men", because it's very clear that they are the only actual humans. Womenthings, especially the disobedient ones, and children, even male ones, don't count.

We weren’t watching the same thing then!

I was talking about a TV series, so maybe it’s DT’s face on camera that’s creepy AF?

Yes, I was talking about his role in the stage play "Good" not TV. So, different things.

Why thank you (Twirls gracefully)
I saw the comment on Rowling's twitter feed and it was an instant "I'm having that!"
I'm surprised I got there first with all the speedy vipers round here tbh.

It's wishful thinking, really. He is trying to diminish the psychic threat by saying it's a 'tiny' bunch, and 'little fuckers' is an attempt to dismiss, too.

Which tallies perfectly with wishing Kemi B would 'not exist' and would 'shut up'.

It's a bit sad watching a grown man doing the equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears and having a wee tantrum.

At some point he's going to have to face his conscience.

I honestly am coming to the conclusion that lefty men can be way nastier than conservative men.

Ok that's a sweeping generalisation, but it does seem the tantrums are extraordinarily vile.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/06/2024 11:58

I don't have any reason to suppose David Tennant's child is taking any drugs to mess with his endocrine system. I wouldn't expect it at that age just for being "non-binary" and with any luck his kid will stick at non-binary and/or grow out of the whole thing anyway when he hits puberty. Most gender-questioning and gender non-conforming kids do, after all.

The nice thing about "non-binary" being mostly meaningless is that it's easier to row back from. You can decide "non-binary" means something different to you now and get on with your life.

"Trans" on the other hand is trickier to unwind so I do hope Tennant hasn't been going round telling the world he has a "trans" child.

I think conservative men generally aren't struggling with the cognitive dissonance that makes many leftie men so vicious and angry.

Conservative men will just openly state they believe in traditional gender roles etc.

Men like Tennant have to play lip service to being 'feminist' when in reality they consider men superior as much as their conservative counterparts do.

Have to pretend increases the rage.

Namechangeforobviousreasons100 · 28/06/2024 12:11

I wish Kemi would shut up, not because she’s a woman, but because she’s a person in a position of power who is saying things that I believe are divisive and damaging.

My theory on that is that conservative men tend not to lie about who they are. If they think that women deserve to be paid less than men they tend to say so and to come up with some (bullshit but at least they try) reasons for it. Whereas left wing men dress up their misogyny in progressive talk about sex workers and gender identity blah blah blah.

I've also found, and granted this is my experience only, that bigoted conservative men tend to be sexist rather than misogynist. Like, their attitude towards women tends to be patronising and paternalistically contemptuous but that's it. Whereas lefties, I don't know whether it's because they have to keep it hidden, but their feelings are much more likely to be actually malevolent and hateful.

It's weird.

Yes this is what I was trying to say but not as succinctly!

What, that women are people too and deserve rights?

I don’t recall her saying that. She did say that the UK’s wealth “was not due to colonial history or racial privilege” though

What's that got to do with David Tennant's non binary child?

So you cannot bear to hear an opinion which differs from your own? How awful that must be!

It was just an example of the kind of thing she says that I think is unhelpful and which makes me wish she would shut up

I realised this some time ago. I used to think left wing men were the good guys. What a fool I was.

I can bear it, can you bear me saying I wish she would shut up? I wished Boris would shut up, and many other politicians who generated more heat than light

Unhelpful about women's rights? Or something else entirely unconnected to this thread?

100% this, well put. This is my observation too.

You only had to see the pure rage that Lloyd Russell Moyle had towards Miriam Cates in the House of Commons to see the hatred in practice. My main thought upon watching was 'if this is what he'll do with cameras, what will he do behind closed doors'. Who knows why he was deselected but I'm not surprised.

Where did that ‘more heat than light’ phrase come from? The first time I can recall hearing ever it came from Lisa Nandy in her Labour leadership campaign, since then I’ve heard it parroted everywhere.

Was it issued via memo from Party HQ?

My theory (and it really is no more than a theory) is that sexist conservative men tend to have more innate respect for the vitally important (and still usually female) roles of mother and manager of the home. Whether that's because of fond memories of nanny in the nursery or matron at school I don't know, and of course it too often tips into an assumption that a woman's role is still largely in the kitchen or as a SAHM. But the respect for those roles is there: they respect those spheres, and the millennia of female passed down expertise that's gone into them.

Whereas lefty men, for whatever reason, don't value or respect these things. I used to move in very lefty/queer circles (don't worry; I'm better now) in the early 00s when postmodernism and queer theory was really starting to make an impact in the UK and what always struck me was the sheer disrespect and even disgust for the role of mothers. (Plus also the transactionalisation of sex which I think lies at the route of the trans movement). I think a lot of the current generation of progressive elites also came up in those circles and that's why they hate terfs so much, cos a lot of terfs are mothers for extremely obvious reasons that we don't need to go into here.

I'm just thinking out loud as I type but this is kind of how I see it. And it needs to be fixed because otherwise we're gonna see more female Gen As going down the tradwife route, cos that's where they think they'll get the most respect for their femaleness.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 13:01

Interesting take @GiveMeSpanakopita, I've never thought of it quite that way before.

I'm pretty sure Victoria Smith or someone wrote an article in Unherd or Spiked or somewhere earlier this year about lefty blokes being the Most Misogynist but I searched for it yesterday and couldn't find it, probably because it wasn't Victoria and it wasn't Unherd. Does it ring a bell with anyone else?
