Someone may already have linked to it, but I thought the Telegraph podcast coverage was great.

The woman, Camilla, was excellent, the bloke (missed his name) was ok but did anyone else notice that whilst Camilla was talking about women's rights, the man kept on changing the subject to trans?

And it irritated me how he talked with concern about trans vulnerabilities without realising that the TRA affirmative approach has literally lead to child experimentation and sterilisation (see Cass review). Which side is doing the most harm to 'trans' people? Not women who simply want single sex spaces.

There seem to be vanishingly few men with a decent grasp of this issue and who don't just unquestioningly accept the framing by other men, whilst disregarding women's views.

Camilla was excellent though. Hopefully she'll have a word off camera (though of course she's not a man so...).

David Tennant - Wishes Kemi B would ‘shut up’

That cartoon is rather good!!

RedToothBrush · 27/06/2024 05:35

The problem with Tennant is if he does anything different, it's an admission of his failure.

The Cass Review effectively raises questions about parents of trans-identifying children, especially prepubescent one, who decide to affirm without question. It casts the lens of safeguarding over him.

So instead he's doubled down. Which isn't that surprising. It's a Susie Green style response.

What is shocking is he chooses to say that sex doesn't matter and gender does, to an audience of Lesbians and Gays, whilst claiming to be an ally. So we have the question 'what is a homosexual?' in addition to 'what is a woman?'. And his comments, which he knows are going to encourage abuse, are directed at a black woman. Because well, she's a Conservative so she deserves it. The optics on this are utterly appalling to anyone paying attention.

And you start to wonder why the child of a man so wonderfully sexist, homophobic, ageist and racist in the most inclusive and left wing of ways might seek to transition because, well being a woman is just a costume and it's all about sexist stereotypes and anyone who thinks differently - or can quite from an independent health review or research - is a bigot and should be erased.

Tennant, who is 14 years older than his wife who he met on set whilst she was playing his daughter, thinks this act of virtue signalling makes him look inclusive and accepting.

I'm thinking, naaaa not really mate. It's just drawing attention to the fact that you aren't as clued up as you think and there's something not terribly ok with this.

There's no such thing as a vegan cat. Just militant vegan owners.

Yes adults will double down. There are a sizeable portion in the media or politics who have pushed gender ideology

As Cass and other reviews show harms they will find it hard to take and lash out

Oh they get it all right, they just don't want to acknowledge it because they would prefer to lionise the desires of trans-identified men over real actual women.

RedToothBrush · 27/06/2024 08:11

The point is for all these men is it's not their problem and they don't want it to be their problem.

Worse still is when they dress it up as 'well it's for women to sort out' in a way that supposedly is empowering to women.

It's not. It's patronising and it's passing the buck on responsibility.

It's also connected to the toilet debate - why must women budge up rather than men address male violence?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/06/2024 08:17

And they are often including "trans women" in that which is infuriating.

They may as well say

"Shrug, well it's not my fucking problem is it?"

I'm surprised they've allowed comments.🙄

Being ‘unpopular’ doesn’t justify calling someone an ‘arsehole’.

And it certainly doesn’t display a wit so sparkling it needs copy-pasting from The Guardian to Mumsnet.

It's a bit 'tee hee,someone said boobies'.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 26/06/2024 21:02

You are fabulous!

Just read that article. I see the TV producers are doing a "nothing to see here" approach when asked to comment about it all. And Keir making no attempt to properly condemn the misogyny.

This will just continue once Labour gets in, stuff like this emboldens the activists. Ugh it's so depressing.

Grammarnut · 27/06/2024 08:52

Has anyone noticed that Dawn Butler (Lab) agrees with Tennant. Not all black women agree with Badenoch, she has said (sorry, on news last night with interview of shadow education minister, so it's reported) and she herself stands with Tennant. I am guessing that many black women agree with Badenoch on sex segregated spaces, so Butler is wrong about that aspect of their agreement, I would think.

Butler thinks that babies are born without a sex. She is absolutely STUPID!

I don't understand the relevance that Tennant is 14 years older than his wife. This is fine, and not that rare either.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/06/2024 08:58

Butler thinks that babies are born without a sex. She is absolutely STUPID!

She's also been on jollies paid for by international LGBTQ lobbying groups.

Thought I’d find out more about this story so I clicked on this Guardian article.
I have never read such a huge quantity of hateful comments about anyone in my life. (TBH though I don’t go on sports sections or reddit so maybe this is normal now?)

I genuinely think now that if someone was physically violent against her there would be an outpouring of joy and elation from Labour supporters.

Crazy to me that a right wing incompetant like Rishi Sunak will still stand up for an MP of his who's under attack for being a woman, whereas Kier Starmer the supposed humanist champion wouldn't stand up for Rosie Duffield for the same

Topsy turvy world we live in

The Left has always been a filled with misogynist males - this is not really a surprise.

EnfysPreseli · 26/06/2024 13:51

I do hope that if it does come up in the leaders' debate tonight that both Sunak and Starmer don't just condemn Tennant's words and misogyny; but also point out how regressive and oppressive it is to think that just because a child doesn't conform to narrow, old-fashioned sexist stereotypes they are no longer the sex they were at birth.

The whole ideology is absurd, othering and very judgemental - as if boys who like stereotypically feminine things are not male enough to count as boys or men, and girls who don't buy into restrictive stereotypical behaviour or cannot (or don't want to) match current beauty standards aren't real girls. What an attitude to teach children and young people!

Tennant and Moffat's son has been completely misled if he thinks he's not still a boy. Between the ages of 3 and 11 my youngest DS grew his hair, loved singing gay anthems or pretending to be Baby Spice and wearing his older sister's hand-me-down multicoloured velour leggings after school. We never once criticised his choices or suggested that he wasn't a boy because of his interests or how he dressed (although it was hard not to smile as he regularly belted out a rendition of It's Raining Men in the kitchen as an 8 year old). He was a happy, gender-non-conforming little boy who grew up to be a lovely, well-adjusted young man. And a straight, quite gender conforming, one at that.

It did come up. Sunak was great on this - Starmer lied and obfuscated as usual.

dougalfromthemagicroundabout · 27/06/2024 09:03

Labour reminds me of an abusive boyfriend. It's that kind of dynamic in their relationship with women.

Very hard no, if they're like this now it'll be 100x worse once they're in power.

Women and children are in for a bumpy ride.

I thought they were great. I particularly liked this one:

He's not criticising you because you're a black woman Kemi. He's criticising you because you're an arsehole.

The readers of The Guardian are racist bigots.

Quelle surprise.
