Re his comment about having skin in the game. I'm wondering how he thinks having primary school aged son who is 'non binary' intersects with women's rights that means he needs to be so aggressively defensive and dismissive of women?

In what way is women and girls having female spaces to toilet, wash and change affecting his son? Does female sport affect his son? Single sex rape crisis centres? Single sex prisons? Does any of the above harm a 9 yr old boy, even one with they/them pronouns?

His son at the moment doesn't have a trans identity, doesn't appear to be making a claim of being a girl so what's going on? Is Tennant just wanting to take women and girls spaces in anticipation of a future where his son might decide he wants them for himself if he moves from non binary to trans?

I don't suppose we'll get answers to this but it's quite strange.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/06/2024 00:05

Disappointing. I guess I have to remember the difference between playing intelligent characters, and actually having two neurones to rub together.

RantyRantington · 26/06/2024 00:08

There are young people in the care of my wider family who think that they are trans. They have been through incredibly abusive childhoods. They are loved, supported and protected by all of us and we strive to do right by them. They will never ever be used as accessories to prop up the careers of those who care for them. Shame on Tennant.

IwantToRetire · 26/06/2024 00:40

Just to repeat what has been said.

It is (almost) irrelevant what KB's views are, because he didn't bother to say why he wanted her to shut up and disappear.

The point is he didn't, which he could have, made a supportive speech about trans rights, and some politicians didn't seem to care (or whatever the latest were are most victimist of victims) he just insulted her. It indicates complete lack of respect.

All of you commenting that she said awful things about this that and the other are just not engaging with the fact.

A stupid overpaid white male performed (ie can he even think for himself) stood on a public platform, and just insulted her.

How can anyone of you think that because you dont like her opinions on any number of issues it is okay to insult her.

And as a role model for his children, whatever their identities, is appalling. This is the sort of boot boy drunken comment that makes for many women being in public spaces something they try to avoid.

He behaved like a spoilt schoolboy pointing his finger in the play ground, going nah, nah, nah your stupid.

If he cant articulate his political position he should just STFU.\

Women in public life do not deserve and should not be subjected to hostile and attempts to humiliate them.

That's the issue.

And that the organisers, and whoever broadcast it, didn't stop him, or at least ask him to apologise.

Edited - the (almost) is because everybody realises he isn't talking about selling arms to Israel which is / was part of her remit, or not getting equal pay for women in the film industry, it was obviously about her support for women's sex based rights. Which means of course he thinks all of us should shut up and just disappear.

Honestly I don’t think so. As I understand it racism from one of the righteous male left wing allies to a right wing women seems to be totes fine as she deserves it amirite?

You should see Kehinde Andrews recent tweets. He specifically singles out Badenoch, Patel, et al as deserving of being called coconut, cn, house n* and so on. Apparently he advises the Met Police on these matters.

WomensRightsRenegade · 26/06/2024 01:18

cupcaske123 · 25/06/2024 17:20

Well Farage has been disparaging towards women and supports woman haters such as Trump and Tate Reform want to get rid off the Equality Act which amongst other things, protects women.

The good/bad binary can be seen very clearly on this thread. He's been accused of child abuse, racism, intent to kill, woman hating. He's got a non binary child, perhaps he feels protective over them. Most parents support their children.

He told a politician to shut up. Look at the vitriol.

You’re not actually calling his son ‘them’ 🤯

But where is the pushback from the anti-racist left, the be kinders? It is the double standards and hypocrisy that enrage me.

myotherdogisadonkey · 26/06/2024 01:27

I used to love David Tennant as an actor but he's a horrible misogynist . I would never vote for Kemi as I don't agree with Tory policies but she has been great on this. And even if I didn't , I'd defend the right for her to speak out . Who does he think he is ? Nasty wee bawbag of a man.

redalex261 · 26/06/2024 01:32

Pity. He's a good actor. But clearly an empty vessel. He can’t articulate even a half arsed attempt at a reasoned.argument so tells Kemi to “shut up” because he doesn’t like her very reasonable stance on safeguarding women and girls. I don’t think the fact she’s black has anything to do with it for him, it’s her message and the traction it’s gaining.

As the parent of a “trans” child he’s had to go all in - he will definitely be one of the spittle-flecked zealots still ball-deep in this bullshit ideology when it’s been thoroughly discredited in a decade’s time. What’s the alternative for these people? Facing up to having enabled physical and mental harm to your own offspring? impossible situation.

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 26/06/2024 01:50

i understand the problem with telling a woman to "shut up", and particularly one of the few politicians of colour. I cant defend it, its tone deaf and not ok.

i will say though, i hate the Tory party and have often in frustration said i wish Suella would just go away. I wish Liz Truss really would just shut up. I live in hope that Rishi Sunak decides to remove himself from politics as he has nothing of value to offer. Priti Patel would make my day if she gave up her day job.

As a lefty brummie i have heard Jess Phillips receive very similar comments from public figures as she reads out names on IWD. Lets not lose perspective here

ultimately he is a supporter of trans rights, he doesnt agree with Kemi. He's said a very flippant comment. he hasnt called for violence or made any personal attack other than saying he thinks she talks crap.

One has 1001 on their birthday card...

he did, actually, make a supportive statement about trans rights

“I suppose if I’m honest I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they’re not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special or award or special mention because it’s common sense, isn’t it?” Tennant said in his speech. “It’s human decency. We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on. However until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore — I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up — whilst we do live in this world I am honoured to receive this.”

he didnt just step up, slag off Kemi and then leave....

Women have the right to single sex spaces.

Crackwillow · 26/06/2024 03:39

Way before this I disliked David Tennant, Always felt there was something off about him. Looking at that clip he has revealed himself to be a vile misogynist.

Yes. She talked about loopholes in the GRC process. For adults.

His 'skin in the game', is a ten year old.

I mean, that really thinking ahead!

what are her "bigoted" views on immigration? Do you mean when she stated that we need to massively bring down net migration? Hardly controversial.

He has daughters and a wife. It’s a shame he doesn’t see them as ‘skin in the game’ - the ‘game’ of protecting their safety and dignity.

It seems in the Tennant household, the rainbow child is the only child that matters; it’s a microcosm of society, in leafy West London.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/06/2024 06:26

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist anymore I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up

He added that bit about not wishing her ill because he knew how what he was saying sounded.

Yes. He's revolting

All of it. Ignoring women and children, promoting ideology to a young child and the misogyny to Kemi B

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/06/2024 06:39

If he feels protective over his “non binary” child maybe he could have done a better job of protecting him by not publicising this? Knowing that for the majority of children at that age they will change their mind. Why should the world and his dog know about this? What about that kid’s privacy? Maybe he will get the piss taken out of him at school for the next 7 years or so?

What benefit for the child was it to tell the media about this? None. The only benefit is that DT gets to polish his halo, increase his leftie credential score and look like even more of a smug twat.

In context doesn't make it sound any better. He has basically made a speech about trans rights and live and let live ( presumably because he doesn't believe women have a right to single sex spaces) and instead of leaving it there, accepting his award and buggering off, he decided to add a paragraph singling out a female, Black politician and wishing she 'didnt exist'. The paragraph was entirely unnecessary in the context of his point. The fact that he added it makes it worse.
