Doc Stock in Unherd

Ostensibly a review of Susanna Rustin's 'Sexed', but uses that to frame a bigger picture and see right through the Labour party.

Thank you, the book she is writing about
sounds excellent, and the review itself is brilliantly written.

I'm so worried.
This issue is finally blowing up but I think, too late.

CaveMum · 28/06/2024 19:56

Now don’t shoot me down, but one suggestion I’ve seen is that people sign up as Conservative members (£40 per year) so that when Rishi inevitably goes and there’s a Leadership contest we can vote for the candidate speaking the most sense on this issue so we can keep up the pressure on Labour.

I know a lot of people will abhor the idea of signing up as a Tory but the idea has some merit. Have to be speedy though, you have to be a member for 3 months to be eligible to vote in Leadership contests.

I think the 1922 Committee have first dibs @CaveMum so I wouldn't hold out too much hope of finding someone sensible.
Besides, I couldn't be responsible for all those PIP claimants getting sent to break rocks in a penal colony somewhere.

Floisme · 28/06/2024 21:07

I don't want to join the Conservatives, thank you. Absolutely no disrespect to anyone who does support them but they are not my party.
What I would like is a Labour party that I can trust and respect.

zibzibara · 28/06/2024 21:40

I feel like Labour have taken us for fools, not just on this issue but pretty much everything you might expect a left-wing party to stand for. Wolves in sheep's clothing, again.

UpThePankhurst · 28/06/2024 21:43

Labour are banking heavily on trust and belief. However as Blair found with 'weapons of mass destruction', you can only play that card of electorate trust once, and once they realise you conned them, you're in trouble. Five years of a very angry electorate - on a range of issues - is not going to be fun.

Having looked it up I found that one caveat is that you only get to vote for the last two remaining candidates, or it might only be one vote for one of the two. Anyway it does not mean a free range of choices.
