She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

Personally I think Streeting is showing Starmer up here.

Starmer could easily put out a statement that Labour will not stand for intimidation and bullying of his MPs. By not doing so he’s making himself look weak.

BettyFilous · 16/06/2024 17:35

What a callous, spiteful post by Cashman.

Dame Katy Denise nails it in her Twix response to Cashman’s mealy-mouthed non-apology.

PronounssheRa · 16/06/2024 16:57

And by leaving it so long, he has let the situation get out of hand. Labour supporters and members and Labour peers are openly abusing women because senior people in Labour haven't drawn a line in the sand and said it's unacceptable.

Yes, as the saying goes, 'a fish rots from the head'. Organisational culture is set from the top level so if Starmer and his coterie are treating Duffield with disdain, and refusing to condemn or punish bad behaviour towards her, it’s no bloody wonder that those at lower levels in the Labour Party are following his lead.

Streeting's intervention is getting press

Rosie Duffield ‘frit or lazy’ criticism extremely unfair, says Wes Streeting
Wes Streeting has criticised Lord Cashman, who made the comment about Labour candidate Rosie Duffield after she cancelled a local hustings.

Starmer is being interviewed all the time so countdown is on till someone asks him about this.

Cashman's tweets are being reported in The Guardian, Mail, Standard. Hopefully more will be discussed in the media tomorrow and Labour candidates other than Wes Streeting will be asked about it.

Anyone doing complaints here is another anti-woman one from a Labour councilor:

Rhys Goode Labour Co-op Cllr BridgendCBC |

Just to say, I hadn’t seen Lord Cashman’s earlier tweet and I don’t agree with it…however, I still don’t believe our candidate for Canterbury should be a labour candidate. Sorry, if you don’t like that

That is breaking party rules. If you are in the party you don't undermine any candidates in public statements.

Rhys Goode put the boot into Rosie by saying that cashman didnt need to apologise without even knowing what cashman had tweeted. In his follow up he undermines a Labour candidate

What an idiot.

Maaate · 16/06/2024 18:56

Thanks I've complained about both.

In any other area of employment this would be seen as attempting constructive dismissal.

Bloody hell, this is diabolical. What a pack of cowardly bastards these people are.
Labour can get to fuck. 😡

duc748 · 16/06/2024 19:51

When you think, as well, that a big part of Starmer's pitch since he's been Leader is "the Party is under new management now, we're not like those other guys".

ActivePeony · 16/06/2024 20:12

Yes - words are cheap from Starmer it seems.

Starmer’s not sticking up for Rosie because the people laying into her are absolutely following his lead. He doesn’t want it to stop - I imagine it would all be far more convenient for him if she didn’t get elected, and with the predicted landslide, he can afford to lose that seat.

For Starmer, this isn’t an uncomfortable sideshow, it’s the obvious and welcome result of his TWAW stance

edited to add: Starmer is clearly trying to tread a line so that a group of voters believe that he supports them, even though he doesn’t. I think that group is anyone who cares about women’s rights

IwantToRetire · 16/06/2024 21:37

It makes you wonder if the Labour Party in fact wants her to lose so that they can turn round and say, look all other Labour candidates did really well. She must of lost because she is a transphobe.

Worrying.

duc748 · 16/06/2024 21:58

They should realise, they're not just talking to the Brighton electorate, they're talking to the whole country.

WickedSerious · 16/06/2024 22:14

They're a fucking disgrace.

Kai125 · 16/06/2024 22:43

CorruptedCauldron · 16/06/2024 08:04

Are you reading this, Starmer? Are any of your advisers reading these pages?

You might think that by not commenting on these issues, they’ll go away and no one will notice. You might think these are ‘culture wars’ that are not worth your time. But by failing to stand up for Rosie Duffield, failing to condemn the threats of violence, failing to protect the women in your party, failing to publicly acknowledge the Cass report, do you know what’s happening?

You are losing votes. You lost mine.

Edited

This!!

A million times over! Surely advisors must read mumsnet?

They know they need to convince women to vote for them so you’d think they’d be checking in from time to time!

Yes, and Canterbury very much is not Brighton, no matter what the local Labour Party loons think.
Canterbury students and Whitstable DFLs are not representative of the local older, settled, voting population.

UtopiaPlanitia · 16/06/2024 23:19

WickedSerious · 16/06/2024 22:14

They're a fucking disgrace.

Labour claim they want to reduce VAWG by 50%; well, they could make a very easy start on that aim by standing up for Rosie Duffield and any other female MPs receiving violent threats.
