She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

How can we vote labour ?

I despair

I'm not, and their unwillingness to address these issues is why. Will only get worse.

domineastronomy · 15/06/2024 07:59

Keir Starmer you fucking cowardAngry

drwitch · 15/06/2024 08:13

It's totally about her views, a loose grouping of current and ex labour members, greens and general nutters hate her position both on sex and gender and her stance on anti semitism. They feel that because they helped her win in 2017 that she needs to agree with them on everything. They think she should represent them not the people of Whitstable and Canterbury. I'm not saying that all those operating under the #duffieldout are threatening violence of course but they are definitely making it hard or impossible for her to do her job

drwitch · 15/06/2024 08:17

They are deranged! Here she is blamed because they think she is part of change UK (even though she wasn't)

I'm not exactly sure why Rosie Duffield is still in the Labour Party if I'm honest.

Bloody hell poor Rosie. It's one thing to be subjected to the batshit lies and threats, but for your party to not support you is outrageous, and undermines our democracy. Makes me furious.

He is only planning on getting rid of 50% of the violence against woman and girls. It's just Rosie isn't on the list, so he can't do anything about it.

I couldn't remember reading about what her stance on antisemitism was. A quick search found this from January about how she'd been accused of antisemitism:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3gye5337k7o

But in this article, she's accused of undermining "support for the Palestinian quest for justice, supporting the Zionist so-called ‘Jewish Labour Movement’ and Labour Friends of Israel".

So are they complaining that she's antisemitic or that she's pro Israel?

On a second look, I’m not impressed by the BBC article title. It doesn’t represent the story properly. It should say something like Rosie Duffield “not safe” at hustings. I think I’ll complain.

RedToothBrush · 15/06/2024 08:50

Violetparis · 14/06/2024 23:06

Harriet Harman has replied to Jess's tweet with sympathy but nothing on Rosie's. Sarah Champion has tweeted in support of Rosie but not seen anything from other Labour MPs.

Need to point out here that Harriet Harman couldn't reply to Rosie.

No one can reply to Rosie's original tweet because of the privacy settings.

I’ve often wondered this too.

💐 for you, Rosie, if you’re here.

drwitch · 15/06/2024 08:57

@OldCrone early on (before she came out as GC) she went on the enough is enough march to protest about antisemitism in the labour party -there was then most of a CLP meeting devoted to how problematic this was. But quite a lot of the people involved have now left labour

BezMills · 15/06/2024 08:59

Rosie must take care of her safety first, and I expect the police to take this more seriously.

You can easily see the double standards between the way the law has treated KJK and CF whereas the cowards threatening female politicians and candidates are acting with complete impunity.

The Labour leadership are sadly and predictably a letdown. Again.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 15/06/2024 09:03

Can people quote Rosie’s tweet, tag their local Labour candidates & ask how they’re going to support her?

borntobequiet · 15/06/2024 09:03

This is my complaint to the BBC:

This article is about a Labour candidate feeling unsafe at public hustings as a result of well-documented abuse (including threats of physical violence) as a result of her views on sex and gender. This is the story - that she is not safe. The title should reflect that. As it stands, it tells the reader very little.

I suggest that you change the title to ‘Labour candidate Rosie Duffield “not safe” at hustings.’ This is the shocking truth that your audience needs to know.

(The current title is just “Labour candidate Rosie Duffield cancels hustings”. To be fair, the actual article is good.)

Almost like some sort of two-tier policing thing going on.

Weird huh?

Regardless of who and why, the question is why isn't her party supporting her? Surely if one of your MPs or candidates is being threatened and abused, they should be supported by their colleagues and the party leader?

I don't know much about this (saw it in Active) but from what I've seen on this thread she should have the same protection as Nigel Farage. But also support from her party.

I don't want to sound harsh. I'm tired and perhaps being a bit mean but I feel like I'd respect her more if at this stage she left and stood as an Independent. I assume though it's too late to do that before the GE? Maybe she can do that afterwards if she wins. She's been treated appallingly by her party. Whatever people's views on any issues, a candidate or MP shouldn't be unable to attend hustings or other campaign events due to risk to their safety.

I should think they are, just behind the scenes.
Stuff like this is what Lindsey Hoyle was talking about when he moved the order of voting round for the Gaza vote.
Has KS come out and said anything in support of Jess Phillips, Stella Creasey or Diane Abbott?
Heidi Allen left politics over this kind of abuse. Jo Cox and David Amess lost their lives over it. It is horrendous, its horrendous for Duffield. I'm just saying it may not be as simple as she is being targeted for being GC - it seems to be part and parcel of being in politics these days, especially if you are female.

CassieMaddox · 15/06/2024 10:50

The "friends of Israel" thing is the reason Jess Phillips has been getting threats as well.

CassieMaddox · 15/06/2024 10:53

drwitch · 15/06/2024 08:20

I don't know why you think a woman who would write an article like that would be contributing to violent death threats. I thought it was quite a clear and logical setting out of the Authors position. We do have freedom of speech so she's entirely within her rights to publish it.

WhodoVoodoo · 15/06/2024 10:57

Gosh I wish there was a way of filtering out nonsense.

Everything she has said or written (often linked to on these threads, so easy to find or Google if anyone wants to) says exactly the opposite - that there has been no support whatsoever, except perhaps recently, and not particularly strongly, from Wes Streeting.
