She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

Thanks. Don't know how they plan to square the circle, conversion ban v Cass.

334bu · 16/06/2024 11:44

We will implement the Cass Review but then criminalise all the doctors under the Conversion Therapy ban. 🤔

duc748 · 16/06/2024 11:47

I vaguely remember Cashman being a bold campaigner for gay rights, back in the day. He used to be an actor, didn't he? What an unpleasant man he's turned into. Starmer's silence over RD is unconscionable.

Michael Cashman, Labour peer replying to Victoria Derbyshire

I'm surprised Cashman said frit, it was something of a Thatcherism.

They can't.

It doesn't make any sense. Which is why the attempt to pass a conversion therapy ban will be a huge drama. Because Gender fanatics deny science and safeguarding and go against the now standard medical advice.

Dr Lade Smith CBE, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said:
“We welcome the final report of The Cass Review and the involvement throughout of those with lived experience, their families and healthcare professionals in its development. It is a comprehensive and evidence-based assessment that needs to be acted upon with a fully resourced implementation plan.

“The review directly impacts on the healthcare needs of a vulnerable group of children and young people who are questioning their gender identity or experiencing gender dysphoria, and have had difficulty getting the support they need when accessing services in England. Many young people may be left wondering what services they will have in future and when the recommendations will be acted on. It is crucial that in the future development of services they have access to a comprehensive biopsychosocial approach tailored to meet their individual needs, including the development of an individualised care plan that takes account of their wishes and preferences.

“The best interests of children and young people seeking support must be at the heart of services provided. Clinicians should not allow their own personal views to influence the care they provide in line with the standards set out by the General Medical Council (GMC) in Good Medical Practice.

I think when they try to draft the bill they will realise how screwed this all is and how it will never work.

Detailed response to The Cass Review's Final Report

The College has published a more detailed response to the independent review of gender identity services for children and young people, commissioned by NHS England and chaired by Dr Hilary Cass OBE.

He was, I had a lot of time for cashman back then but he is just a nasty misogynist now

BTW did anyone notice he doesn't name Rosie in his apology instead he says the 'Labour candidate for Canterbury'

Floisme · 16/06/2024 12:28

Thank you @fromorbit - my knowledge of the House of Lords is woeful.

Is Wes Streeting about to become our most vocal gender critical Cabinet Minister? What a strange old world this is. But, if he's decided it's a good career move then that is comforting to know.

PronounssheRa · 16/06/2024 12:32

It's a hell of a turnaround for streeting, but it does seem like he actually understands the issues and it's more than just a performative nod to the direction of public opinion.

Our best bet is to have Wes Streeting as the next health minister and have the likes of us, journalists and politicians such as Kemi B. hold the government's feet to the fire

Yes I agree. Streeting at least seems to have seen the light (after his shennanigans with bloody Lily Madigan and the gender critical hit list) and is making a great deal of sense on this - I am glad he is in the LP.

Streeting seems (now) sensible on gender and honest and increasingly Starmer seems neither of these. I suspect that Streeting is an ambitious man - he speaks well, he knows the power of a proper apology and he seems to have turned a corner in his thinking.

He is far more impressive as a politician than Starmer who needs to watch his back I think. Rayner may think that she's next in line but I think Streeting has far more of a chance.

Yes I agree and thank god for that. Starmer though...🙄

I am willing to believe that Wes Streeting has come to genuinely understand the issues, iirc he’s engaged with quite a few small GC orgs working in various policy areas (Gay Men’s Network, Safe Schools Alliance?)

I hope so. But even if he is doing it for the most cynical of reasons - namely that he thinks it's a vote winner - that in its own way is encouraging, in the sense that he thinks popular sentiment is pro-women's rights. (And this is borne out by opinion polls, of course.)

LizzieSiddal · 16/06/2024 13:33

I really have grown to like Streeting. He doesn’t shy away from saying he was wrong about women’s rights. I hope he doesn’t let us down.

Floisme · 16/06/2024 13:40

I appreciate Streeting's interventions while not entirely trusting him. But I'd still rather see him as Minister for Health than just about anyone else in the (now dissolved) shadow cabinet.

As for Starmer - whenever I get really annoyed with him, I remind myself that the two other contestants in the final round of the leadership election were Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy. While I don't think that means he should be let off the hook in any way, I do believe things could have gone a lot worse.

Yes, whether he will continue to fight if he gets moved from Health would be an interesting thought. Theres no guarentee thats what he'd get in government. Moving him from Health could be an attempt to kill off the subject.

He also has to earn back that trust. Some of us still haven't seen the apology over the Lily Madigan saga which really formed the start of the rot on the subject within the Labour Party and set the course for the years since.

Streeting has a lot of damage to undo before his words start to feel like more than empty promises.

Yes it'll certainly be interesting to see whether or not he gets the Health brief. The same applies to Women and Equalities. I think I've read somewhere (Janice Turner's article possibly?) that Dodds isn't likely to be in the frame.

RoyalCorgi · 16/06/2024 16:36

I don't get why Starmer doesn't stand up for Rosie. How hard can it be to say"I won't tolerate members of the Labour Party bullying Labour MPs and Labour candidates. Any Labour party member who engages in threats and bullying will be expelled." It makes him look so weak and cowardly that he won't do this.

God forbid anything does happen, how much of a callous shitbag would he look for not even acknowledging the threats and intimidation.

It just boggles the mind that he continues to ignore it.

It also makes him look like he dislikes or disapproves of her. It’s happened so often now that it looks personal.

He is either a coward, doesn't care, or agrees with the people abusing Rosie. I can't fathom any other reason.

His silence is shameful.

PronounssheRa · 16/06/2024 16:57

And by leaving it so long, he has let the situation get out of hand. Labour supporters and members and Labour peers are openly abusing women because senior people in Labour haven't drawn a line in the sand and said it's unacceptable.
