Sinèad Watson was detained for tweeting

Just seen this by Sinèad's lawyer. Don't know anymore than this, sounds par for the course unfortunately.

Someone at @PSOSGreaterGlas needs to answer for the absurd, inhumane protocols you have set up. You need a complete policy revamp and whoever came up with your current procedures needs to be fired.

Sinèad Watson was detained for tweeting, for speech. For typing characters into a text box. Her phone was taken. She was arrested. She was handcuffed. She was put in a dirty cell. She was not given feminine products and made to sit in her own menstrual blood for 3 hours.

For what? She is under suspicion of "malicious communication online." Not a violent crime. Not a crime that has anything to do with the content of her cell phone. All of Sinead's purportedly illegal tweets are/were public at the time of her arrest. There is NOTHING on her cell phone that has anything to do with them. This is a violation of her privacy to embark on a fishing expedition for unrelated evidence.

Put aside the obvious free speech violation, because I get that not every country feels the same way (but it is a violation of her God-given rights to charge her with this absurd thought crime). Even IF you believe that tweets are illegal, the way she was handled and processed is completely unnecessary, unsafe, and dehumanizing.

Someone needs to lose their job. Sinèad is owed a massive public apology for what happened to her at a BARE minimum.

Only two days ago there was media coverage about the intolerable workloads on Scottish cops. But apparently enough capacity to bang up women for tweeting?

"The process is the punishment"

It doesn't matter any more if you even committed a crime. If the police don't like what you do they don't need to prove anything. They can punish you this way as often as they like.

A brave new world.

This looks like a two tier police system. Women arrested and detained for tweets, whilst rapists released even after being found guilty.

Now if only someone was trying to raise awareness of this...

But only if no one who believes the same thing isn't as pure as the driven snow. Heaven forfend that bad people might agree with you on that one issue

Shocking. More in the morning.

some people just refuse to see what's actually going on

I wonder what horrible hurty thing SW tweeted. Probably that grass is green!

(I'm not sure he's "her"lawyer- I think he's American)

Is malicious communication what they're going with now they apparently can't use non crime hate crime? https://x.com/WeAreFairCop/status/1798727135936327718

Also presumably they are trawling her phone to uncover the secret network of evil witches who think that men are men.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 07/06/2024 01:21

So what did she tweet?
Sorry but this whole "she's a little woman on her period leave her alone" victim narrative leaves me a bit 🙄
So, what, me right now could tweet/incite what I like online?
Without any context this is what it comes across as.
You're not immune to inciting hate just because you're a woman.

How do you mean?
As in, this thread shows no context?
Can you shed light then?

Christinapple · 07/06/2024 03:10

What was she tweeting? Did she threaten the police?

Someone else sees sense.

I see she's being very brave on twitter atm, throwing around abuse and allegations. It's all being archived :)

WomanXXWorldsOriginsofMothersofAllNations · 07/06/2024 03:28

It's all being archived :)

I hope the archived copies include some of the abuse Sinèad has received - good to know which side you’re on 😬

I deserve to be placed in a prison where I could be raped for tweets? And your lot have the nerve to call me a nazi - I would never wish that fate on you, or anyone else.

I’m assuming some of the vitriol is because she’s a detransitioner who is open about the damage transitioning has done?

I'm still under investigation, I can't tell the whole story yet.Jun 6, 2024 · 12:30 AM UTC

Just had a look through their twitter feed, looks a mix of abusing the police and calling people "pussy assed cunts" and talks about cults
Yeah, seems lovely.
Can't see why they're flagged, must just be because they're a woman. 🙄

"I deserve to be placed in a prison where I could be raped for tweets? And your lot have the nerve to call me a nazi - I would never wish that fate on you, or anyone else"

The suspect herself said it, almost as if she's trying to goad certain responses as if there's some sort of manipulation going on.

Also [see screengrab] can you imagine JK Rowling's mailbox? It must be filled daily with requests for money from (gender critical) people in trouble with the law.

Does JK Rowling actually do this? If (hypothetically of course as an example) I threatened trans people online and got charged by police would JK Rowling pay all my lawyer fees? Has anyone here received money from her to pay with lawyer bills?

I archived that tweet, there's also this one[sensitive image]. From browsing through all that mess I haven't seen a single person laughing at the thought of what she claims. It looks like she's drunk and not thinking about what she's posting.

I see that female people menstruating while in a prison cell don’t deserve to be treated with dignity and given the opportunity to use tampon or pads. And it seems to be worst still for those women to highlight the fact they were unable to access those products while they bled through their clothes, without derision from people posting on a feminism board.

Plus the police have found yet another way to add an extra punishment to women. I guess dehumanising female people this way is easy.

It is remarkable when you see this on this board. Does that derision stem from misogyny?

Is this the same derision that we see from the type of poster (and this is a general observation) who dismisses violence against the female people they disagree with. Like tomato soup, water, cream pies etc thrown at women. Is this like those comments we have seen in the past of ‘cream pies in the face are used in comedy all the time’, or ‘it is silly string being sprayed, what is the big deal?’

It seems remarkable to see people posting on a feminism board show their complete lack of empathy for someone who is in that situation. Particularly for an alleged tweet.

Locked in a cell for tweeting? Does this sound proportionate ? Sounds to me like a new way to punish someone you (general you) don’t agree with to me. Horrendous treatment if that is all it was.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 07/06/2024 07:16

I assume some angry man went greetin to the police who used all theirs stonewall training…

PatatiPatatras · 07/06/2024 07:17

The notion of "red mist" seems to apply here... some are so focused on ensuring the downfall of others that they can't see anything else... especially not themselves

@Christinapple &@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight, assuming you are two different people, whatever you've posted condemns you more than it condemns sinead.
Please look again.

FFS. there are millions of people being worse with their language and threatening rape and bodily harm. You really think it is a coincidence that only women like Watson get harassed by the police?

You archived that as some evidence that Watson is the egregious one? Either you are a man or you so used to dick pandering that you might as well be one.

ArabellaScott · 07/06/2024 07:44

I can't say what I want to say.

What are you doing on the feminist board?

Well, and this is general too. Remember that some posters before on the history of this board jumped onto a thread to vilify JK Rowling for tweeting to highlight the male sex of someone who had a pattern of abusing her. Apparently a tweet by the victim of abuse to highlight the male pattern of abusive behaviour was a vile act.

So too are women who report erect naked male penises in female spa sections and being in a spa with naked nine year old girls because they reported this incident in their robes in reception.

When you see posts as per my general example mentions, and you see some posters who show little basic empathy for a women, who tweeted something that some posters don’t like, being treated in this way then you start to realise that maybe some posters on MN really have dehumanised the women that they disagree with. It is a sign that someone is dismissive of the plight of women, when it is a woman that they don’t agree with. There is a name for that.
