Here we go: https://archive.ph/DQXUD

Is that the Kemi Badenoch /Spectator link? When I clicked I got it.

I think the poster referring to archive sites means: first find the site called ‘archive ph’. Then put in the headline of the article you are after in the lower box you will see on the page. If someone has archived the article, it will come up.

That is exactly what I meant. I am on my phone and have trouble getting to the sites so couldn't post the link.

The archive sites have several different suffixes. either .ph, or .md or .is.

Just going back to the discussion in terms of what other Party's have or haven't said, have just seen this in an article by Suzanne Moore - see https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5090616-i-wont-vote-tory-but-theres-a-good-reason-labour-havent-won-me-over-yet-suzanne-moore

" ... Ed “women ‘can quite clearly’ have a penis” Davey can do as many prat falls as he likes. The Lib Dems are a pitiful joke who take money from the makers of puberty blockers (Ferring Pharmaceuticals) so no thank you. ... "

So does this make the individual responses from LD candidates more of a personal position rather than a LD Party one?

(And yes can someone explain why anyone would think having the leader of their party doing comedy stunts as part of electioneering is a good idea??)

That's a good article, @IwantToRetire.

I don't know if it's a personal response, or just a well-briefed one. I'm not convinced into voting for her anyway.

It’s going down very well with the majority of the electorate, particularly younger voters. If it gets them to the ballot box I’m all for it.

Seriously? Shock Has there been a survey on this or something?

How strange. The LD had the post tv news slot for a PPB and it was exactly the opposite, all about Ed the carer. Very different, tears and cuddles.

Diversification. Different approaches targeted at different audiences. It’s a classic marketing approach.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:55

There was a short piece on R4 this week about Ed Davey and the fun stuff he is doing. There is a marketing term for it which I forget now Blush but broadly the thinking is that because the other two have to be serious, and naturally there is always most focus on the two main parties, the LDs have to be different somehow to get through. I'm not explaining it well (!) but it did make sense. And it isn't intended to be minimising the issues or anything either.

Not an LD fan but I think I get it. It is effective as you talk about them. They are also doing home videos with Davey as he is a carer, so they get people talking about those issues too.

Tinysoxxx · 06/06/2024 18:55

The carer video made to cry because being a carer is so difficult. I wish the jump could then be made to why girls and women are so vulnerable when being cared for and that single sex spaces are needed.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:56

It did make me think exactly that, soxxx.

YourPinkDog · 06/06/2024 18:58

Disabled and elderly women are regularly cared for by men. And no I do not mean trans people, I mean men.

The TwiX response has a massive focus on the LD's gender woo issue from what I've seen.

IwantToRetire · 06/06/2024 19:12

Well I suppose voting for someone because they are able to make fun of themselves and amuse others, is better than voting for someone who is telling you lies with a straight face!

Didn't BoZo somehow achieve both?!

IwantToRetire · 06/06/2024 19:20

Yes - that' what I meant. Not only did he get away with it, but it looks like Farage will too.

In this instance I am with the young people (surprisingly for me!) as I prefer that reaction, than the apparently older generation seemed to have put rational thought out of the window to vote for a fantasy.

Girls and women should be able to have the right to say they want their personal care done by women. There is a wonderful woman who excellently articulates this on Twitter.

Unfortunately, sometimes men do not get this if they have experience of looking after relatives because they imagine the care girls and women get would be similar. They don’t get the girls and women’s point of view of a stranger (often a set of strangers) providing intimate care. As a disabled person, you have so little autonomy and so much dignity you have to sacrifice. Men don’t get how girls feel when having a heavy period and are bedbound. Or being fully undressed and dressed by a male stranger.

IwantToRetire · 06/06/2024 19:32

Not here to stand up for ED or the LD, but this was about carers by default. ie family members to decide to take on caring to save a relative from the care system and knowing the relative would be much happier, feel safer with them.

This was aimed at the huge number of people who are the main carer for a family member.

I think as a vote winner this is something that will make a connection with many families.

The issue of paid for care (whether financed by the state or privately) is a different issue.

Tinysoxxx · 06/06/2024 19:48

I have just realised I posted ‘to’ rather than ‘me’ for some reason. The Libdem video made me cry.

But if you listen to the video, he implies there’s a lot more people involved in the care. You usually have at some point, to let care go to strangers. It is incredibly lucky to have a regular trusted team in place. And if you are a carer to someone female, it’s something you are very aware of. He says he worries when he’s not around (as in he has died) but there’s also the ‘not around’ as being present at every moment when the person you are caring for is female as there is an extra layer of vulnerability.

I am having a go at libdem policies btw.

Tinysoxxx · 06/06/2024 20:07

I want to make it clear I am not having a go at the libdem video (that made me cry) - it’s just that he has cared for people and so I would have hoped he was more in agreement that girls and women should have the right to have female care. And therefore the party put the wishes of girls/women before an ideological policy. I am also annoyed as libdems always promoted themselves as the more intellectual of the parties.

I agree with this. Unfortunately they don't have a great history as regards children/safeguarding so I'm not sure I am fully surprised at their inability to see this

As much as we might all want to be able to choose the sex of our carer, there isn't the staff available for this, just getting a care package can take weeks or months, people die waiting for them.

Which comes back to Ed Daveys "we need to invest in carers"

Unfortunately, despite having 14 years to improve matters, caring is still seen as min wage job & going after carers who inadvertently earned too much is a disgrace.

ResisterRex · 07/06/2024 07:05

As much as we might all want to be able to choose the sex of our carer

So let's not bother with female dignity and privacy

ResisterRex · 07/06/2024 07:17

Labour are meeting today with unions to finalise their manifesto. And might launch next Thursday

LDs launch theirs on Monday, Greens on Wednesday. Tories unconfirmed but might launch theirs on Tuesday

So we shall soon see which parties are doing what for women and children

Well, instead of moaning, tell me where you will get enough female carers from and how you would attract them into the sector?

Like i said and its documented from independent research, people die waiting for any care, fuck, people die waiting in Hospitals for treatment.

We have to deal with realities not some dreamy wishlist

ResisterRex · 07/06/2024 07:46

Female dignity is not a "dreamy wishlist"
