You know what to do Mumsnet. BBC apologised previously because of mass complaints about sick cat killer Scarlett Blake not being referred to as trans and just being referred to as she / woman in original article. They’re now at it again.

this person arrested for killing husband with samurai sword.

This dishonesty makes a mockery of crime statistics and increases prejudice against women.

Done. Complaint submitted via their website.

After Blake (and much else), this is really worrying. Have the BBC learnt nothing?

HoneyButterPopcorn · 03/06/2024 08:21

After Saville they learned nothing so why expect they would now?

FrancescaContini · 03/06/2024 08:23

Aren’t journalists supposed to get the facts of their news story right? Otherwise what’s the point?

determinedtomakethiswork · 03/06/2024 08:40

This is outrageous. I have reported it too. Thank you for telling us about it.

The BBC Charter is a good place to start with complaints the BBC:

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/assets/files/pdf/about/how_we_govern/2016/charter.pdf

6. The Public Purposes
The Public Purposes of the BBC are as follows.
(1) To provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them: the BBC should provide duly accurate and impartial news, current affairs and factual programming to build people’s understanding of all parts of the United Kingdom and of the wider world. Its content should be provided to the highest editorial standards. It should offer a range and depth of analysis and content not widely available from other United Kingdom newsproviders, using the highest calibre presenters and journalists, and championing freedom of expression, so that all audiences can engage fully with major local, regional, national, United Kingdom and global issues and participate in the democratic process, at all levels, as active and informed citizens.

One key thing is the title of the Charter:
ROYAL CHARTER FOR THE CONTINUANCE OF THE BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION

Well done for complaining. It's not just the BBC that lie, it's all media and Police Forces. I don't know if you've seen this video, it's quite long but very informative and shocking.
#notourcrimes. Just Google it.

People here seem more concerned about the gender identity of the killer than the poor victim!

HoneyButterPopcorn · 08/06/2024 21:53

People can care about two things - the victim and the murderer cheating the system and lying their head off.

Those things are not mutually exclusive. Being able to recognise patterns of offending is an important basis for tackling and preventing violent crime.

If you read an article about a poor human being murdered and your first thought is "i wonder how the killer identifies" then I think you need to reassess what kind of values you have.

For me it's not much better than people who want to know if a criminal is muslim or black before giving any sympathy to the victim.

Okay, thanks for your input and assumptions.

Don't forget, everyone, Tim Davies says he hardly hears anything about this:

Why do you assume it was the OP's first thought? I assume their first thought was horror, followed by sympathy and sadness for the victim and empathy for the final moments of someone realising they will end their life at the hands of a person they once loved and trusted. Perhaps the OP wondered if this was an abusive woman or an abused women who tragically ended up killing her abuser, given that female domestic murderers of spouses or partners are rarer than male if only because of the power disparity.

The anger on realising that this is a man's crime being wrongly attributed to a woman, adding to the myth that women are just as dangerous to their partners as men are, probably came later and was in part due to realising her natural sympathy and concern had been elicted by a manipulative lie that serves the interest of no one except the murderer.

ExpertInNothing · 08/06/2024 22:29

I think this comes from the same place that motivates the extreme right to go nuts when an article doesn't mention the race of a criminal who is a minority.

helleborus · 08/06/2024 22:31

The Police are also reporting the charge of a woman. Does anyone know if the Police forces all follow central guidance on this? Or is it worth complaining to the individual force?

I'm getting the vibe that any time a "woman" is in the news for a crime a small minority are trawling the Internet to see if they are really trans.

Likely staring a photos of Rose West and Myra Hindley trying to spot an Adams Apple.......
