Has anyone noticed a dialling down in PRIDE logos on business websites today?

Really? When I looked around secondary schools for my DC and saw LGBTQ+ noticeboards in the corridors, I had a little weep thinking about how much better things were than in my schooldays when any hint of non-heterosexuality meant bullying from pupils and teachers, when Section 28 was in full force so LGB kids didn't get any sex education, when teachers in same sex relationships had to hide their relationships from colleagues as well as pupils. One of my best friends is a teacher and she still doesn't mention her family life to her pupils because it was so ingrained in her early career that she couldn't.

I'm really pleased that sex and relationship education covers a wider range of pupils these days, that teachers are able to help kids who experience abuse within a same-sex relationship or homophobic bullying, or grooming, that parents in same-sex relationships are able to play a full part in school life, and that it is no longer acceptable for school staff to bully and harass their pupils on grounds of sexuality.

You are happy they are promoting queer theory? How far are you happy for them to take this? How do they explain safeguarding and boundaries alongside breaking down societies norms? Or age of consent when under queer theory that is another ‘norm’ that should be removed? Or do you support that? How do you think gay people might feel being associated with this?

Trans ideology is homophobic.
Your perhaps young teen girl would be told she needs to accept penis into her sex life, should she be a lesbian.
It's horrific.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 02/06/2024 18:46

@Livinginaclock , @Sloejelly - it is clear that @UnimaginableWindBird is talking about the LGB, not the TQ; it's not her fault the school will be using the acronym LGBTQ+.

Schools are not the ones telling lesbians they need to 'accept penis into their sex life', nor are schools teaching children that the age of consent should be lowered. It's also a bit of a stretch to say that having an LGBTQ+ board amounts to 'promoting queer theory'.

Let's not pile on to a poster who is making the absolutely correct point that being a gay pupil or teacher during Section 28 was pretty miserable, and that things are better for both now.

See, I thought this too at first. Basically, I do drama workshops in schools with kids. A few years ago when I started, I saw how openly kids declared their sexuality - sometimes I knew whether they were gay or bi before I knew their names - and how they always wanted to have LGB characters in the dramas we created. At first I thought it was great and different to how I remember things being when I was at school. After a while though, I saw that the LGB characters they created didn't have personalities or storylines - because being LGB was the character and storyline. They clearly associated being LGB with a positive, anti-authoritarian character who was fighting the good fight against some vague oppressive force in society, because that's the impression they've been given from constant year-round pride messaging. They've also learnt that to be straight is boring at best and bigoted at worst.
The danger of making LGBTQI+++++++++++ fashionable or cool or anti-authoritarian is that teenagers move from fad to fad. They're also neither emotionally nor intellectually mature enough to handle the complex range of issues that come under the banner of current LGBTQI+++++++++++++++++ activism. I don't know if the latest school I visited is representative of a wider trend of growing homophobia or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if kids who are at the age of about 16 now have simply reached saturation point and are pushing back the only way they know how, due to the aforementioned lack of maturity and also due to the fact that to question any aspect of LGBTQI++++++++++++++++++++ culture has been taboo for so long, and this has built up resentment.

No she said she had tears of joy at a board promoting LGBTQ+. Q is Queer theory whether you like it or not. And T is a homophobic ideology.

I was at school during Section 28, there were openly gay children and we had a whole week of PSE focused on homosexuality.

Me too. My history and English teachers were/are gay. The ‘cool kids’ in the year above me were the gay clique.

If anything it was the awkward, chubby, plain, shy, not pretty or fashionable kids that got shit and were bullied.

My sister was the cool one, I was the shy ugly introvert.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 02/06/2024 20:34

@VolvoFan do you automatically think sex sex sex when say a female work colleague mentions their husband?
As if you do that says an awful lot more about you than anyone else.

VolvoFan · 02/06/2024 20:39

@GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight no.

Definitely didn't have any of that when I was at school in the 80s and 90s.

It was sarcasm because I'm sick of seeing rainbow flags and Pride month everywhere. I've asked MNHQ to remove my comment, because I'm also sick of the fucking pile ons.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 02/06/2024 20:54

Overtly homophobic comment draws opinions, surely you expected that might happen when you posted it, or maybe you just thought everyone would agree with you and/or laugh.

@VolvoFan you should be ashamed of yourself.

I read it, you were trying to suggest something she did not say. If you object to TQ+ then you don’t state how wonderful a board it with TQ+ all over it.
