Amazing news!

SinnerBoy · 06/11/2024 09:07

This is good news, £70 k is a significant amount of money and it was probably awarded, so as to reflect the seriousness of ERCC's behaviour. I wonder if their legal fees are covered, too? Their insurance will be an awful lot more expensive at renewal, so they've still wasted money, which could have been spent helping women.

guinnessguzzler · 06/11/2024 09:09

Excellent news indeed, especially the bit about being clear Adams was only ever acting in the best interests of service users, and that they must now refer on to Beira's Place. All of this was entirely avoidable.

CorylusAgain · 06/11/2024 09:19

I needed some good news today. 😄

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2024 08:09

On a day of shit news this is good.

This!

fromorbit · 06/11/2024 09:34

The 70k is great but the rest is that Edinburgh Rape Crisis must do is priceless.

-publicly apologise to Roz Adams

  • acknowledge where it went wrong with Adams

-acknowledge she “was motivated by a wish to act in the best interests of service users" and did no bullying or harassment.

  • refer survivors to Beira’s Place

This will have huge impacts across the sector.

IamSarah · 06/11/2024 09:35

Really excellent news! I am delighted for Roz Adams she deserved this.

Really excellent news! I am delighted for Roz Adams she deserved this.

And hopefully good for your case as well. The judgment for Roz Adams' makes it clear female service users must not be deceived or pressured into using a mixed-sex service under the guise of gender.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 06/11/2024 10:10

Brilliant result!

KohlaParasaurus · 06/11/2024 10:42

Excellent news! Utter vindication for Roz, and hopefully other rape crisis services will pick up the message and ensure women have access to a same sex service.

334bu · 06/11/2024 11:33

Thank you for links to article. Great news.

Glamourreader · 06/11/2024 12:18

Great news, particularly that the judge has been very clear that they were wrong and must do some self-reflection.

Are they capable of accepting this and turning things around? We shall have to wait and see...

WFTCHTJ · 06/11/2024 13:15

My money's on no.

INeedAPensieve · 06/11/2024 13:31

This is brilliant news I'm so pleased for Roz. I await the public apology from ERCC...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/11/2024 15:32

I wonder what they'll write to the funders this time, because their last email appears to have made things worse for them.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/11/2024 19:12

Reported on the BBC Website

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c6248z383x7o

There's this

A spokesperson stated: "We recognise that during the employment tribunal with Roz Adams we did not act in the right way. We want to publicly apologise, and we understand that Roz’s actions were not motivated by transphobia, but by a genuine wish to act in the best interests of service users. "We should have listened more to Roz’s concerns and never pursued disciplinary action and for that we are sorry."

Is this meant to be the apology demanded by the judge? Or is it an earlier, stopgap, apology?

The Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre must also publicly apologise to Roz Adams who was unlawfully dismissed over her gender-critical beliefs.

No.

They'll appoint a CEO from the small pool of zealots that dominate the third sector in Scotland and carry on much as before with lip service to women only spaces.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 06/11/2024 20:34

And the guardian has reported it, complete with spokesperson apology as reported on the Beeb.
Whatever next!

nauticant · 06/11/2024 21:38

A spokesperson stated: "We recognise that during the employment tribunal with Roz Adams we did not act in the right way.

Surely the offence was what happened before the ET hearing. What happened during the hearing compounded the harm to Roz Adams.

BezMills · 06/11/2024 21:44

During the ET they did their best to shield MW for responsibility

I don't see what they did wrong at that point. They put up a bunch of inexperienced patsies that, bless them, did their best. Ultimately the damage was already done long before the ET

GreigeO · 06/11/2024 21:46

Brilliant!

lcakethereforeIam · 06/11/2024 21:51

I think this Telegraph article is new

https://archive.ph/AXAnM

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/06/edinburgh-roz-adams-trans-row-definition-woman-snp/

A Rape Crisis Scotland spokesperson said: “Rape Crisis Scotland has accepted the recommendation from the independent review of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre published in September of this year to facilitate a shared definition of women across all our member centres.”

I bet they're hoping for the result of the Supreme Court case before they publish their own definition.

Former rape crisis worker ‘harassed’ over gender views demands SNP define ‘woman’

Roz Adams was awarded £70,000 after a tribunal found she had faced discrimination over her belief that biological sex is ‘immutable’

MrsWhattery · 06/11/2024 21:54

Yes, why doesn't MW have to apologise for leading the witchhunt?

It's so bizarre how these people will twist, misdirect and cover up endlessly rather than just admit a TW could be in the wrong or not a wonderful person. When it's becoming increasingly obvious that some of them actually do have dodgy motives (unsurprisingly, as they are human, and a proportion of humans will always have dodgy motives). Putting people on a pedestal, giving them highly inappropriate jobs and refusing to hear a word against them, all because they are trans is inviting these types in and causing all kinds of fuck-ups.

Bannedontherun · 06/11/2024 23:31

I have a feeling based on a career in the womens rights/services voluntary sector, that, MW had multiple attractions to the trustees, not least the ability to attract funding.

the fact that he was a biological male, did not bother the trustees at the time because of the capture of scotland

what he unleashed on the centre became out of control, trustees left (IMO because they were unable to hold a women only line) and the new trustees were just his handmaidens, that he recruited.

Latest Statement from ERCC Board (6 November 2024)

This week the employment tribunal with Roz Adams concluded. It was a challenging and complex case, and we have learnt a lot during this process. Using this learning we are striving to improve the services we offer and the support we provide to service users, staff and volunteers.

We are committed to balancing the views, needs and wants of all our service users, staff and volunteers. It’s important that we do this in a thoughtful and respectful way, reflecting our values and in line with the national service standards set by Rape Crisis Scotland.

We recognise that during the employment tribunal with Roz Adams we did not act in the right way. We want to publicly apologise, and we understand that Roz’s actions were not motivated by transphobia, but by a genuine wish to act in the best interests of service users. We should have listened more to Roz’s concerns and never pursued disciplinary action and for that we are sorry.

Steps have already been taken to address the outcomes of both the tribunal and recommendations provided by Rape Crisis Scotland.

Our focus for the future is ensuring we can provide survivors with the best possible service and support they need to aid their recovery. We are committed to ensuring that ERCC is a safe, accessible and inclusive service for all. We have information on our services, including our women only services, on our website.

We want to reassure all survivors who are currently accessing our services and anyone seeking support that we are here for you, and you matter to us.
