Transwimen actors call for trans quota quota for female roles

.. more specifically, for 2 to 3 TW candidates to be united to every 20-strong audition.

And one of the interviewed, a mid-40s trans actor, complains about getting fewer offers of female roles, ostensibly since "coming out" aged 40. Who's going to tell the poor dear about Amy Schumer's genius sketch celebrating an actress' "last fuckable day"? Welcome to womanhood, "sister."

‘Just let us audition’: UK transgender actors appeal to be cast in non-trans roles

Kim Tatum, Mariah Louca and Reece Lyons combine to call for trans women to be put on an equal footing for cis roles

Are there even that many transwomen actors?

Since any old cross dresser or "non binary" person now seems to refer to themselves as "trans" I daresay there's loads!

They seem to be overlooking one thing-who is going to pay to see.a trans actor instead of Helen Bonham Carter or Anne Hathaway or.whoever your favourite is?
I wouldn't.

Bigot 🤩

Not me, I'm a littleot!

There are already considerably fewer acting roles for women. Netflix has a policy of shoe-horning a transwoman into everything it can. Yet again women will miss out on what little is available.

To be fair, they shoehorned a transman into Ripley, to the confusion of some of the older ladies in my knitting group who could tell at once it was a woman but didn’t realise it was a political choice that the audience was meant to politely pretend not to notice.

Sting's daughter totally threw me as Freddie.

Any word on transmen? Or is this just another handy illustration of men’s needs overriding women’s?

As an aside, I am someone who can’t always tell. There was a character on “shrill” who is trans and I didn’t know until it became part of the plot. There are times when it’s very obvious though!

The same actor is in a film called Together Together about surrogacy. Playing the surrogate. And the baby gets named Lamp. I wish I was making this up.

Fuck my old boots Hmm

mumda · 02/05/2024 15:43

So they think they're women and should be treated as every other woman is, and then they realise what that means, they decide they want to be special. Or did they think that all along.

AGlinnerOfHope · 02/05/2024 15:54

There was a transman in Fallout, a member of a religious military brotherhood. I kept waiting for the plot twist to be revealed, but no sign so far.

SinnerBoy · 02/05/2024 15:56

Oh? I've watched up to episode 4, but hadn't noticed.

When will celebrity couples wise up and do the progressive thing, by giving a transwoman the chance to be their surrogate? Such bigots and biological essentialists, always choosing cis.

Actually, I'd quite like to see a gruff-voiced, 6ft, hairy-chested, five-o'clock shadow'd Elisabeth Bennett in a remake of Pride and Prejudice 😆bring it on!

I'd like (I wouldn't actually) to see a TW take the Anastasia role in 50 Shades of Grey film. Not sure what Jamie Dornan would be happy about that.

Yalta · 02/05/2024 16:12

Surely they realise as women at that age your days as an actor unless you have made some sort of impression in the industry it is time to give up

This is the reality of being a woman actor

There are thousands of women actors who just want to audition. Where is there article in the Newspaper

Want to be a woman then this is the reality. Stop thinking with your man brain and assuming that you will get the same privileges as men then bitching about it when you find you don’t.

Act like a woman. Accept the reality and do something else.

NecessaryScene · 02/05/2024 16:12

I just love the fact that they don't just want a quota, they specifically want some of women's quota.

(and cutted-up pear?)

That's the whole thing in a nutshell.

Oops. I didn't realise that character was trans - asked my son with whom I was watching why there was only one woman in the troop

I don’t think the character was trans, just the actor. Unless there’s a plot twist next season…

I’d be surprised if all those men failed to notice a woman among them- though I suppose a few women have managed the disguise, through the ages.

As I put on the other thread, the LGBT lobby are currently pushing for only gay actors to play gay roles, so I don’t know why that shouldn’t apply to trans actors. I don’t agree with that idea, but the likes of Russell T Davies do.

What I don't get about all this is then surely by the same logic, only (biological) women should play (biological) women?

CampervanKween · 02/05/2024 16:28

There's a beautiful woman with short hair and no breasts in something I was watching with my son the other day. Fallout. Then we realised she was in a brotherhood so pretending to be a man. It was ridiculous.
