Just as the title says really! Is that your only thought about who you'll vote for, or will you look at wider policies? Been getting lots of information through my letter box recently, and none mention it.

Yes. I spoilt my ballot a few times and am considering voting Tory - especially after the current performances of Cates, Badenoch, Atkins, etc, but Rishi Sunak taking a pop at disabled people and ill people - calling it ‘sick note’ culture is making me think I might not after all. I’m not sick or disabled, it’s a matter of principle though.

@RebelliousCow I refer you back to my post about the Tories track record with women's rights on page 5 of this thread.

The choice is between Labour and the Tories, as it ever was.

If both parties are shit on women's rights, at least Labour stand a chance of bringing back the NHS from the brink of destruction.

Clearly the issue to which this board is dedicated means nothing much to you - but it does to many other of us.

Spoiling your ballot is not the same as not voting. It's saying "none of the above". It's no less legitimate than voting for a party which has no choice of winning in your constituency.

I wouldn't be considering spoiling my ballot if there were a party to vote for which doesn't appear to hate women.

That's unacceptable.

Labour should be a party which supports women's rights.

The Lib Dems should be a party which supports women's rights.

Why aren't they?

If you spoiled your ballot and knew that as a result the Tories would stay in power, or Labour would get into power, would you still do it?

If you knew that your one vote would make the difference, would you still spoil it?

You are being driven by your perceived powerlessness. Don't be.

People spoiled their Brexit ballot thinking it wouldn't make a difference, to make some kind of point, assuming that we would remain, because everyone else would vote that way.

But it did make a difference. Nobody cared about what point they thought they were making, and we left the EU.

Use your vote to vote.

Only ever voted Labour but not anymore. Won't be voting Tory either. Had a leaflet from an independent through the door today who looks promising. Will email him to ask his opinion on women's rights.

Labour can't win in my constituency, it's between the Tories and the Lib Dems.

I'd like to spoil my ballot because I don't want either of them to win, but it's actually getting to the point where I am considering voting Tory for the first time ever because I think the Lib Dems are worse than the Tories and I want as few of them in the House of Commons as possible.

I have voted for them in 3 out of the last 5 general elections.

Sorry that's not the answer you appear to be looking for.

RhubarbCurd · 30/04/2024 15:53

No - but it's up there with other issues - Education and NHS being big ones and it's kind of entwined in those anyway.

However neither Tory nor Labour look great - and not sure how else is standing here.

SoundTheSirens · 30/04/2024 15:54

If I have a Party of Women, SDP or Communist candidate I will vote for them. Otherwise I will spoil my ballot paper.

Lifelong Labour voter, but can't vote for any party who doesn't give a shit about my rights (which also includes Lib Dems and Greens, who if anything are even more batshit on this issue). Neither can I vote Tory - they're no friend to women, and their view of people with disabilities is inhumane.

userlotsanumbers · 30/04/2024 15:12

Lifetime Labour voter here preparing to vote Tory (feels so strange!) because I can't risk Labour facilitating this ideology to make further inroads into women's and girls rights.

So you've voted for Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party twice, but this time you're voting Tory? Even though you will have no idea what they'll do?🤯

I'm not 'looking for' any answer at all - the worst thing is when people spoil their vote or don't vote. If you have an opinion, whatever it is, then vote. If you spoil your vote/ don't vote, then you are effectively silent.

I don't buy the 'I spoiled my vote to make a point' argument. Spoiling a ballot is marginally better than not voting - but not by much.

ARichtGoodDram · 30/04/2024 16:02

I do think there should be a “none of the above” option on ballot papers so that we can see just how many people are politically homeless and choose to spoil, rather than them just being counted in with the people who make mistakes

AstonsDataThief · 30/04/2024 16:05

at least Labour stand a chance of bringing back the NHS from the brink of destruction

How do they intend to do that? The NHS are still paying back over £2 billion per year for PFI Labour put in place when they were last in power?

rkahic · 30/04/2024 16:05

It’s so far down my personal list of priorities it definitely wouldn’t be something that got my vote

Lengokengo · 30/04/2024 16:06

No. Because the Tories have set fire to the country. I wouldn’t vote for Dawn Butler due to this issue, but fortunately she’s not my MP.

Yes, I feel the Tories will get the economy back on track and the trans issue is a big deal to me.

You know they have been in power for a long time right

My opinion is that none of the people on my ballot paper are worthy of being elected to office.

So what should I do?

Spoil my ballot by voting for JK Rowling, or vote Tory to keep the Lib Dems out?

It should be illegal not to vote. For gods sake please use your vote.

For me, any manifesto promises to support the NHS in this way fall in to the "it aligns with what we want to do, we didn't have access to all the figures and we've now realised that we can't" bucket.
It might work well as a slogan on a bus though...🙃

StaunchMomma · 30/04/2024 16:12

No. My priority is preservation of the NHS and other essential services..

Annasoror · 30/04/2024 16:13

No. I am voting for whoever stands the greatest chance of getting the Tories out. The country is on its knees. There is nothing, nothing, that isn't a lot worse than it was in 2010.

Desecratedcoconut · 30/04/2024 16:14

The finger wagging on this thread is off the chart.

If people want to spoil their vote then they are free to do so.

Though since the ‘bus’, the amount spent on the NHS has increase by about double the amount stipulated in that slogan.

The NHS is a money pit.

If you spoil your vote it won't stop any of those people being elected. One of them is going to be elected. Spoiling your ballot just means that your opinion won't count, and other people will decide.
