He said he apologises to people eating their breakfast'. Hmm

He is being questioned about his treatment of Rosie Duffield but he's not answered really and moved the convo swiftly to Brianna Ghey

Susannah said you told the MP Rosie Duffield that she is wrong to say only women have a cervix and he is again deflecting.

Says he believes in safe spaces for women.

Women's prisons? - deflects again to the NHS today. no answer to any direct questions.

Says again about safe spaces being important- but again deflecting and whittering about the constituion

SR asking for clarity- is it right or wrong for RD to say only women have a cervix - KS- she is biologically right. SR- should you apologise to her?
KS- deflects. Wants discussion. Not answering the question.

I'm giving up now. He can't even string a coherent sentence together. Keeps deflecting.

IMO of course.

The whole thing is bananas / the Tories got us into this entire mess with self id, unisex wards, TWAW, laws etc.

But Labour will pay a price.

All the focus is on them and they cannot seem to manage it even though they did not cause it!

Karensalright · 30/04/2024 09:25

You can change your legal sex. Starmer relied on that in his origional position that a few women have a penis, he was thinking as a lawyer - a neat way to duck the question.

now his position has changed - slippy he is.

do we have any evidence he has a gender questioning child?

SpringLobelia · 30/04/2024 09:25

He comes across better to me the second time round. Not by much though.

He's disgraceful on the Rosie D question though.

Labour did actually it’s the GRA 2004 that underpins the mess we’re seeing

They have also made statements about defending the acts they brought in to allow GRC on legal sex

I didn't watch it (he puts me off my breakfast), but knowing that he mentioned Brianna Ghey has pushed me back again from my tentative thought that I might vote Labour again. What a cowardly arse.

Edited

I was thinking exactly the same this morning - that it might be safe to vote Labour and that the NHS clarity of definition of sex meaning biological sex would be difficult to reverse once Labour are in power. But now this😡Kier again using poor Brianna Gheys name to deflect. He needs to clarify his position and stop avoiding the questions otherwise journalists will always bring up the previous cervix and penis comments

illinivich · 30/04/2024 09:31

I think the interview where he changed the sex of one of his children was just a mistake.

I think he's clinging on to the gender stuff because its the only thing hes got that appeals to the corbyn lot, and he doesnt want his first term in office being dominated by trying to fix the GRA and EqA.

anyolddinosaur · 30/04/2024 09:33

Nearly 2 years ago Tatler said "A lot about the low-key couple isn’t known, but what we do know is that they live with their two children, an 13-year-old son, Toby, and a 11-year-old daughter, in a £1.75 million house in Camden, North London." So his children are about 15 and 13 now. If one of his children is trans identifying CASS should surely make him realise it's not a good idea to encourage transition in children. He should be a good parent and put his child's health first.

I think it's his activists he's worried about.

Just managed to catch it on ITV+!. He's trying the we are tolerant people, trans people are experiencing great distress, we need to be kind line. Well you can be kind to someone in distress without trampling over women to do it.

illinivich · 30/04/2024 09:38

The nhs agreed to let people self id into opposite sex wards before May tried to introduce self id into GRA. Even before the coalition government.

I agree the conservatives ran with it, but gender ideology was already embraced by government institutions before the tories were in power.

He once said in an interview that he had 2 sons - in fact he has a son and a daughter. I'm always uneasy about a politician's children being brought into all this but... he opened that door by "forgetting" the sex of his children.

We know a lot about how parents of gender questioning children can be a major influence in the work place with others too frightened to challenge them. I do wonder whether this drives his incoherence and why nobody in the party has challenged him? And he's right that these gaslit children are exceptionally vulnerable, caught up in this massive lie.

Helen Joyce has spoken about the impact these parents can have:

Helen Joyce: "Parents have sold their [trans] kids a bill of goods they can't deliver on."

Haven't seen this yet or had chance to RTFT but two immediate thoughts spring to mind from what I have skim read:

  1. Well done to the presenters for not letting him off the questions about who has a cervix and whether he will apologise to RD. Even though it resulted in apology avoidance, I'm imagining how distrustful this makes him look
  2. weaponising the empathy trap of the Brianna Ghey murder (which I'm sure everyone agrees is a tragedy) to deflect these questions is abhorrent.

I look forward to watching this (car crash?) footage and coming back to this thread.
Thanks for posting OP.

Wherewerewerewear · 30/04/2024 09:45

Circumstantial evidence only but I think his bio daughter may be trans. It makes sense. That would explain his behaviour on this issue. He’s looking after his child.
Of course he shouldn’t let personal issues affect policy but..

Sir Keir Starmer forgets his own children's gender

The Labour leader made the blunder on Sky News when thanking his children and 'fantastic' wife Victoria for their continued support.

Brianna Ghey's murder was a tragedy. It has absolutely nothing to do with how gender incongruent or dysphoric children are treated by the NHS, or whether the NHS has single sex wards, or whether political quotas work on the basis on sex or gender. Or whether the BBC report Scarlet Blake as a woman. Or prisons. Etc.

It was a symptom of 7 years worth of tabloid-stoked anti-trans sentiment piled atop an existing cultural baseline. He was right to mention it.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/04/2024 09:50

Whatever his motivation is, he needs to stand back and reflect.
We now have Cass, the proposed change to the NHS constitution, the new school guidelines and evidence and data emerging about offending, the harm this is doing to children and lots more.

The press are not going to give this up - especially when it exposes his moral and political weakness. Maybe he needs a word with Wes Streeting?

SpringLobelia · 30/04/2024 09:50

No he was not right. He used it to try and move the conversation on and fudge that he did not want to answer a straight question put to him.

They might as well put a suit and tie on a milk based dessert.

Come, come! That's a bit harsh, a blancmange is more likely to grow a backbone.

No - it was a tragedy involving mentally unwell children conducting a wicked act. Starmer used it to avoid answering questions about his previous nonsense about not saying that only women have a cervix etc.

He weaponised the murder to avoid being accountable for his own words.

EasternStandard · 30/04/2024 09:53

I think he gets incredibly nervous in tv interviews and the dc thing was part of that

Regardless he is very poor on this and struggles massively to articulate clearly

His thinking is also very muddled on what to do so the overall effect is just nonsense

Plus he has some very noisy TRAs on the other side looking for his allegiance

PLUS - his whole line was no ones talking about it, he can’t believe he has to talk about it and has not prepared beyond that

It all equates to the milk based pudding as below

Don't let the fact that that's absolute rubbish prevent you from writing it. Until quite recently, many, many tabloid and broadsheet stories about transw were entirely laudatory. Many are still too scared to name male rapists and murderers as men.

I agree. It is inexplicable why he is so pro trans and anti women. If it’s true about his child, at least we have insight as to why.

If it’s true, I’d suggest he needs to stand down. As he’s not acting in the best interests of 51% of the U.K. population.

If it’s not true - what the hell is he playing at? It’s so bizarre that the more I think about it, it’s the only reason that can explain his actions.

Is a blancmange with a backbone still a blancmange?

Now there's a question for the wibbling one.

MississippiAF · 30/04/2024 10:03

He’s pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

Imagine being married to someone who can’t answer what a woman is. I’d be off.

Toseland · 30/04/2024 10:28

He's talking about dignity and respect yet showing none for women.

Also last night, I think it was on Newsnight, two photos were shown of Brianna that I'd not seen before - highly sexualised, dressed up in stockings and tiny mini skirts - I was quite shocked!
