Male friend on FB (a doctor no less), telling me that trans women are real women.

I shared a meme on FB, about not supporting trans women in female sports.

A male friend of mine, who is a GP, commented that trans women are real women 🙄 I replied that trans women are men, and that my gripe was men in women’s sports, and men (rapists like Karen White), being housed in female prisons.

He then said that he knew lots of trans men, who just wanted to live a peaceful life, and I’m thinking well yes, because they are actually biologically female!

He then went on to quote all manner of statistics about violence from men against trans women and how trans women are at more risk of violence than cis women (I hate that term). and how cis women are more likely to be attacked by cis men than trans women.

It’s been annoying me all day. Here is another male telling me what to think, but also, whether the violence comes from normal men against trans women (who are men), or trans women against real women, this is essentially a male violence problem.

Because, we as women, aren’t the perpetrators in any of this. So men, stay in your own lane and sort out all your shit. You don’t get to throw the men you don’t like into our lane (bathrooms and prisons), and make us your collateral damage.

If a fox said that it felt like it was a chicken, you wouldn’t let it sleep in the chicken coup, just in case it was lying.

I may not have articulated this in the best way!

But isn't it easier and safer just to keep ALL men out of women's spaces?
Because we don't have a way to tell who is who, and ONE casualty is more than enough surely?

That's the core issue. You are still describing them as men.

I can't believe it has even gone this far with people uneducated on the issue arguing with a doctor.

HootyMcBooby · 30/04/2024 17:03

And BTW, I couldn't give a shiney flying fuck if it was the gentlest loveliest most timid transwoman on the face of the earth who JUST WANT'S TO PEE.

I wouldn't want my husband, or the fucking pope, or Jesus Christ himself in the bathroom with me, and I certainly don't want some random man in a dress in there.

Arguing with a doctor is easy when that doctor is a raving lunatic.

At this point he is an activist, not a medic.

'Random man in a dress.' That what it really boils down to.

Mengele was a doctor too you know.
It doesn't mean a fucking thing.
How do you know who is "uneducated" BTW? There are MANY highly educated women here on this forum.

Ah, this has been the deciding post for me - this is a deliberate wind up. This poster can't possibly be serious. It's full chanty mantra flashbacks from several years ago. Even the most moon howling TRA has moved on from this.

There is a risk of reoffending for all predators. I have a hard time believing this stat is increased because they are trans.

How did he pass his exams? I hope he's not a bloody gynaecologist.

Must have gotten his medical degree in a lucky bag !

Snowypeaks · 30/04/2024 17:11

@commonsense12
We describe men who claim to be women (MCW) as men because they are men. If you want me to call them something else, you'll have to convince me how they are not men.

Interestingly, 60% of the convicted MCW are in prison for sex offences. As compared to 17% on the general male prison population. Makes you think, doesn't it?
Well, not you, obviously.

You are sadly mistaken in your sarcastic comment.

You clearly don't want to engage or discuss the issue seriously. So why would people waste their time.

Dumbo12 · 30/04/2024 17:12

Every trans woman, is, by definition a man.
Every female only space, becomes mixed sex as soon as you allow a (transwoman)man to enter it.
Any single sex rape support group becomes mixed sex if it includes a transwoman. It is known that some men are sexually stimulated by hearing about experiences of rape, they do not arrive with a handy label telling us so.
One does not need to be using these services to want them to be safe for other women.

They are men

No one can change sex

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 30/04/2024 17:14

I imagine all these ploppers want us to think* of transwomen as Bernadette from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The transsexual (as self-described) played by Terence Stamp who has had “the chop” and just wanted to live a classy, dignified life.

Except that Bernadette was still physically a man capable of male violence as shown by the scene where Bernadette came to the rescue of Felicia (played by Mike from neighbours) when Felicia was on the verge of being gang raped. The point in the film where you cheer Bernadette on while thinking, yep, still a man.

*I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt in thinking they are here to debate and not play pigeon chess.

Please enlighten us, how do we tell the difference between a transwoman and a man? Is it their aura? Do we just take their word for it? If we’re not sure is there a committee we can call on to have a deciding vote?

HootyMcBooby · 30/04/2024 17:19

If you want to bring "doctors" into it, there are PLENTY that don't subscribe to this shite. Do you disagree with Prof Robert Winston then? Or are you more educated than him, who has spent his life researching and advancing fertility and reproductive care and who confirms that (as if we needed confirmation) sex change IS IMPOSSIBLE IN HUMANS.

You must know something he doesn't?

How does a feeling inside a man's head suddenly change objective reality? I'm all ears.

(I'm a doctor)

Doctors are actually highly susceptible to cults & weird ideologies, as are most intelligent, well-educated people, because they over-estimate their own powers of judgement. Doctors were in the forefront of the eugenics movement.

Doctors are also susceptible to wanting to be saviours. Hannah Barnes' book on the Tavi describes this perfectly. The staff are not evil (though many of their actions were) - they set out, wanting to help kids, but allow that urge, plus professional pride etc, to take them to some very dark places.

For both reasons, doctors are just as prone to drink the Kool-Aid as anyone else. And medicine is rife with misogyny, both the old school type and the purple-haired TWAW type.

Very interesting @MissLucyEyelesbarrow (if not exactly reassuring!)

I recommend 'The Intelligence Trap' for fascinating examples of weird beliefs held by eminently intelligent people.

The suffragettes rightly fought for women to have the same rights as men because it did negatively affect them. Trans people having rights, despite your beliefs, does not affect you.

Trans people, specifically the male ones, trying to take away women's rights to single sex spaces affects all women. Some women may not mind but they don't get to decide that the rest of us shouldn't mind, either.
