Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Stewart Lee (a comedian apparently) calling MN a "hate site"

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 28/04/2024 12:27

Is there a backstory here or is he spouting random nonsense? Would MNHQ be interested in his defaming their site, also some ageism and condescension.

Relevant passage towards the end (after a hot take on Gideon Falter 🙄) :

"It was with some relief I finally had my now retired Basic Lee show filmed in Salford last week by Sky. The definitive record of this much-discussed, but comparatively rarely seen, show should diffuse the ongoing online storm in a teacup reflecting its imagined content, which has already resulted in the location of my family home being posted on the guest book of the schools advice, recipes and hate site Mumsnet by a furious old lady."

Context is vital. That’s why I’m filming everything I say and do from now on | Stewart Lee

As Gideon Falter’s standoff with the police demonstrates, it’s important to be able to see the bigger picture

The guy who left Mumford and Sons has his own podcast and youtube channel where he interviews people and expresses views that are unacceptable to left wing men like Stewart Lee who know they are right about everything and therefore when they behave badly and treat women like shit, it's OK because they're good people.

Hello Lee’s agent 👋🏼

I like how you’ve cunningly misspelt his name to make it look like a genuine post.

Yes! Astra loves him so much they are the only one to misspell his name 😂🤣

Are you that stupid, Stewart lees writing clearly has gone way over your heads. Get a grip .

Rude!

capitanaamerica · 29/04/2024 02:57

I can almost guarantee that nobody outside of the UK has ever heard of this person, or wants to.

Are you that stupid, Stewart lees writing clearly has gone way over your heads.

More likely it's "gone way" under our feet.

Stewart Lee? His wife left him, didn’t she?

I liked her series. About an angry middle aged woman getting sick of her husband’s shit and roaring off on a motorbike to live in the New Forest.

Wonder where she got the idea for that?

What was it called? Sounds good!

RoyalCorgi · 29/04/2024 07:37

Bridget Christie is fully signed up to the gender woo, unfortunately. The last time I saw her she had a go at Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle for their trans jokes.

Given the nature of the leftie comedy world and the demographic she inhabits, even if she wasn't paid up twaw it would be social or career death not to look as if she was.

I'll bet they're devastated.

It was called The Change, and it was set in the Forest of Dean, not the New Forest as I stated upthread. Well worth a watch. She knows full well what a woman is.

So we can't tell if some people are real TWAW or playtending ?

Perhaps there could be a test using a brain scanner that would reveal the differences between the true believers and those pretending?

To be fair, someone else also posted the value of his house, without specifying any details about where it was!

Apparently it's worth £1.8 million, btw.

£1.8 million you say?

He's got a much younger girlfriend?

Sounds like a job for Mrs Merton.

popebishop · 29/04/2024 09:52

Stew has been discussed on FWR a few times over the years. I've never seen anything about his address being posted AFAICR?

Giggorata · 28/04/2024 16:05

I bet he's got a loo brush…

I bet he has never used it. Wielding the bog brush is menial labour, suitable only for women and/or other cleaning staff.

BeagleMum2024 · 29/04/2024 10:48

Privileged Male syndrome strikes again. He's not funny either. Very bitter I think that his career failed to launch.

Again, another unfunny one. She seemed to cling onto her husbands (ex?) coat tails, which isn't saying much.

RoyalCorgi · 29/04/2024 10:54

One of the most disappointing things for me is that in the early 2000s Stewart Lee wrote Jerry Springer: the Opera, and was the victim of sustained attempts by Christian fundamentalists to shut it down, because they thought it was blasphemous. As a result he claims not to have made any money out of it. You'd think, therefore, that he'd be supportive of free speech and opposed by the aggressive attempts of trans activists to silence feminists. But it seems he isn't able to use his own experience to extend the free speech principle to others.

BackToLurk · 29/04/2024 10:59

I find lots of Stewart Lee funny, but not as funny as Richard Herring's digs at him on Twitter. "He's 56".

Grin

So, Rosie, what attracts you to furious old men like Stewart Lee?

Beowulfa · 29/04/2024 12:30

My 6th form mates and I loved Fist Of Fun. Saw Lee & Herring live as a student (free ticket as I was supposed to write a review for the student rag; never got round to it). Also saw him live on the Carpet Remnant World tour, which I enjoyed. So I know that his humour is very Marmite, as it's not traditional gags or the usual observational stand-up. The thing is, he's no longer funny when he's clearly wrong. He's then just boring and ranty, like any other sulky bloke who's ageing and irrelevant.

Ricky Gervaise has made most comedians look really lame on this subject.

CantDealwithChristmas · 29/04/2024 12:39

There's an awful lot of what JKR calls PMCWs in comedy.

If you go on the chat rooms for professional and aspiring/jobbing comedians, the misogyny and TRA-thumping is off the scale.

The Triggernometry boys have spoken about it very well as has Glinner

You can disagree with Stuart Lee as much as you like but having been to one of his sell out gigs a few weeks back I can say he is extremely funny, very clever and as an author, scriptwriter and journalist very relevant.

Hi Stewart 👋

DeadbeatYoda · 29/04/2024 13:59

It can be pretty nasty at times. I don't agree with him but he has probably only experienced the bad stuff.
He is on the other side of the whole gender debate to many on here and some of the posts on here are bigoted to the extreme. I often find myself wondering at the unusual bedfellows the gender critical has brought me.

AlisonDonut · 29/04/2024 14:07

Has he written anything funny since 'coming over here, taking our [insert random thing]'?

Yeah, this kind of unsubstantiated mud-slinging doesn't work anymore.

Soz.
