Stewart Lee (a comedian apparently) calling MN a "hate site"

Is there a backstory here or is he spouting random nonsense? Would MNHQ be interested in his defaming their site, also some ageism and condescension.

Relevant passage towards the end (after a hot take on Gideon Falter 🙄) :

"It was with some relief I finally had my now retired Basic Lee show filmed in Salford last week by Sky. The definitive record of this much-discussed, but comparatively rarely seen, show should diffuse the ongoing online storm in a teacup reflecting its imagined content, which has already resulted in the location of my family home being posted on the guest book of the schools advice, recipes and hate site Mumsnet by a furious old lady."

Context is vital. That’s why I’m filming everything I say and do from now on | Stewart Lee

As Gideon Falter’s standoff with the police demonstrates, it’s important to be able to see the bigger picture

Can you link to that please?

I suspect no link will be forthcoming and that this is just an outright falsehood.

I can’t imagine that IF there was ever any such post (attempting to organise the harassment of a law firm) it would stay up for more than 10 minutes on Mumsnet.

Also I can’t envisage many of us reading a post trying to orchestrate the harassment of a law firm and thinking “oooh that’s a good idea I’ll give that a go then”

Nellieinthebarn · 28/04/2024 15:19

Stewart Lee has not been relevant for years. I would imagine his zone of influence is extremely small.

Astrabees · 28/04/2024 15:31

You can disagree with Stuart Lee as much as you like but having been to one of his sell out gigs a few weeks back I can say he is extremely funny, very clever and as an author, scriptwriter and journalist very relevant.

TubeScreamer · 28/04/2024 15:34

I’d never heard if him until he appeared in (and ruined) a recent performance of Macbeth

Maaate · 28/04/2024 15:38

The only instance of a lawyer being hassled on here I can remember is when RMW made some highly unprofessional and borderline contempt of court comments towards a woman who they (iirc)were the opposing counsel for.

Lagoony · 28/04/2024 15:39

Women having a voice and particularly women using their voices to help one another has been a major fear of men as long as we've been on this planet. It's why many women are still deprivednof education in many countries and are pitted against each other at every cost everywhere.

LakeTiticaca · 28/04/2024 15:13

Who is Stewart Lee?
Never heard of him 🤣

He writes desperately dull, supposedly funny articles for the Observer - to be avoided.

LarkLane · 28/04/2024 15:46

Stewart Lee makes Billy Bragg look vaguely talented.

SerendipityJane · 28/04/2024 15:49

k.d. lang has let themselves go

ODFOx · 28/04/2024 16:02

He's was married to Bridget Christie wasn't he?
DH said that he was quite funny back in the day. He was part of a comedy duo or pairing. He won an award.
What has he said (apart from that MN is a hate site) that we would use as a reason to hunt down his house?
I'm far too busy reading about people's annoying neighbours and bad parking to track him down (unless he mispronounces 'scone', obviously. I'm coming for you all in due course....)

Giggorata · 28/04/2024 16:05

I bet he's got a loo brush…

Truthlikeness · 28/04/2024 16:25

Genuine doxing wouldn't happen on this site - the community and the mods would not stand for it. Some activist types seem perplexed by the idea you can disagree with - in fact dislike - someone, without wanting them to come to actual harm.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 28/04/2024 17:05

Reeks of misogyny. The only hate here sounds like his.

SoupChicken · 28/04/2024 17:09

TubeScreamer · 28/04/2024 15:34

I was going to say this! Making fun of people who go to see Shakespeare because they’re ’obviously’ middle class is a bit passé, obviously we should all spend our free time at home watching sky TV and drinking larger instead 🙄

Hartley99 · 28/04/2024 17:19

Never could stand him. He oozes smugness out of every pore. His routine on Braveheart is funny, but in general I find him unbearable. One thing I've noticed about left-wing people is how hate-filled they are. Frankie Boyle is the same. They pose as the good guys, but in reality they seem to be motivated by bitterness, hatred and spite. Every time I see Stewart Lee he seems to be attacking someone. He called Ricky Gervais' Afterlife "the worst thing ever made by a human being." I mean wtf is he talking about? OK, it had it faults (Gervais can be very crude and tasteless), but parts were very funny indeed. Hardly the "worst thing ever made" ffs.

duc748 · 28/04/2024 17:26

Mocking his own tribe, 'Guardian readers' etc, is what he does. And the saps lap it up too, paying good money so that he can call them cunts! He certainly seems to hate almost everyone. Maybe himself too? I wouldn't put Frankie Boyle in quite the same category.

SerendipityJane · 28/04/2024 17:35

Terry Christian has let himself go.

RedToothBrush · 28/04/2024 17:36

Is there a backstory here or is he spouting random nonsense?

Not really. Just another PMCW.

(I think we've progressed from the 'Beardy Wanker' description).

If "Beardy Wanker "wasn't a Viz character, they should have been.

OutOfTheHouse · 28/04/2024 17:47

I do like him, I’ve seen him live a number of time but with the line the location of my family home being posted on the guest book of the schools advice, recipes and hate site Mumsnet by a furious old lady. he really is showing his inner misogyny.

Hello Lee’s agent 👋🏼

I like how you’ve cunningly misspelt his name to make it look like a genuine post.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 28/04/2024 17:55

Sell out - that’s the word… when I’ve been dragged the tickets have been bargain basement cheap sales.

FeckOffAstonUniversityDoxingDepartment · 28/04/2024 17:57

The only reason to be vaguely interested in the general area where Stewart Lee lives is so that one can avoid him.

Personally I’d hate to have such a smug, self satisfied, tosspot for a neighbour.

Posting someone’s home address on Mumsnet is not OK, and MN would rightly delete any posts that included it.

TeaGinandFags · 28/04/2024 17:57

We all know that hateful old lady who upsets the applecart for men.

She's a witch who's got a life of her own and won't put the hoover round for hubby.

She's the hag in the forest who lives there to stop her ex using her for childcare on his access days.

She's the gender critical feminist who knows what a woman is and that's not a middle aged man donning lippy and heels trying to get his rocks off watching little girls change for a swim, or a self righteous comedian playing with himself while in the queue for the ladies.

She is all of us and any of us who dare speak when we should be silent and compliant.

Onlywedressbetter · 28/04/2024 18:00

Are you that stupid, Stewart lees writing clearly has gone way over your heads. Get a grip .
