Sorry about it being The Sun.

Surprise surprise, it's Cambridge, home of Simon "autism is an extreme male brain" Baron-Cohen and a Rape Crisis centre that lets males answer the phones.

NHS trust likens patients worried at sharing loos with opposite sex to racists

Actually, it's good that it"s in the Sun.

The red tops have been awfully quiet on this subject up until now.

Typically tone deaf response from the hospital throwing away women and girl's rights to privacy and safety from men. But for once, a robust response from the Dept of Health.

Well done to James Esses & to the Sun who appear to be starting to report on all this like the Mail, Times and Telegraph.

A spokesperson said: “We reaffirm our support and commitment to staff and patients of all backgrounds. As a Trust, our aim is to establish a fully inclusive environment, where discrimination on any grounds does not exist.

So it absolutely is their intention to eliminate single-sex provision. Charming, and a failure of their legal duty to accommodate single sex care.

Women and girls at the bottom of the pile yet again!

at least the Sun is covering it…

This is nonsense, of course, because they are discriminating against women who don't want to share space with men. They are also breaching the NHS's own commitment to provide single-sex provision.

bluetopazlove · 21/04/2024 15:10

The problem comes from what I experienced when men don't particular care there is women there . They will just strip off anyway , they don't all care .

SinnerBoy · 21/04/2024 15:16

They're including all staff and patients, well, except for the female ones. How can they mention staff first? Surely they should be patient centred? It certainly seems to me that they are pandering to their activist staff, first and foremost.

Toseland · 21/04/2024 16:25

Oh just great - on top of being bigots and transphobes, now women are racists for wanting their spaces - thanks a lot Nancy Kelly, Stonewall's influence everywhere, and no Lesbians are not 'sexual racists' either!

Why do these trusts never seem to consider the bladder leash actions like this create for women of faith and from communities that wouldn't permit the mixing of the sexes in such a way (never mind the setting)?

They're discriminating against female people.

I was recently sent to a mixed post surgical ward from HDU and my experience was shocking and very frightening.
During the night a male patient became threatening and violent, he was shouting ‘no women touch me’ when nurses tried to administer his medication. There were NO male nurses on duty on the ward and eventually after four petite nurses tried to restrain him ( he was trying to thump them) another patient stepped up, a big burly guy who was very calm and collected. The Rescuer was very apologetic to the nurses! Who knows what would have happened had he not acted. I am likely due more surgery soon and afraid because of this incident . When I went onto a ward last week, I noted the night shift changeover, yet again no male staff on a mixed ward.

That’s awful.

The disregard for women’s needs and disdain for their legitimate concerns and comfort is disgraceful.

Solidarity with anyone else who has to endure the Monday and Friday managerial "chit-chat" emails. No, I don't care that you're spending your weekend tending to your delphiniums and that you had an enriching and productive morning at the Little Tittington Toenail Crisis Centre - I want to know when our departing colleagues are going to be replaced and why we still have a fucking printer that speaks Korean after 2 years.

Forester1 · 21/04/2024 16:48

I do consider it positive that the Sun is reporting on this. They do take the “common person” view so they probably wouldn’t report in this way if they didn’t think a majority of people agreed (however they vote)

He has every right to request same-sex care. It's still unacceptable, and so typically male, to resort to aggression and violence when told "no". His behaviour must have been terrifying for the female patients present and triggering for DV victims.

I'm so sorry @Rrg - its not suprising you are not apprehensive of future surgery. Have you reported this to PALS?

And they wonder why there's a nursing recruitment crisis. If only female nurses are going to be on a ward with men, they need security guards on tap to deal with restraint if needed to ensure safety for all.

There will be people within the trust who are paid to understand the law, patient safeguarding and patients rights.

They obviously aren't doing their job and need to go. Including the chef exec.

If they can't even met the basic criteria for the post, they are at best a waste of space, but likely wasting public money and a danger to patients. The only way to remove this ideology from public institutions is to remove those who are unable to do the job they are paid to do.

2mummies1baby · 21/04/2024 16:56

The comparison of gender critical people to racists is so bloody illogical- white/pink/brown/black people do not have completely different body parts to each other! One race is not significantly bigger and stronger, and also considerably more likely to commit violent crimes, than any other race! You are not comparing like with like, people!
