I would probably lose my job, Kirsty Allsopp

ZeldaFighter · 19/04/2024 12:14

I have never posted publicly in my real name about my GC views because I am scared of potential repercussions.

In both my current and previous jobs, I would be very vulnerable to accusations of transphobia. Getting rid of me would be considered the easiest way out. Not only that but I would probably not be able to work in this field again so it would probably end my career and working life.

So now you know, Kirstie Allsopp. Anyone else?

OP posts:

An opportunity to roll out me Kirstiename.

Zelda I know what you mean.

ChateauMargaux · 19/04/2024 13:06

It's a strange public spat by JK. She is directing her anger at the wrong person. At one point she says it is easier to tell women to be quiet than face TRA's issuing death threats..... which is exactly what she is doing herself.

JK.. I am a huge admirer of how you stand up for women and children, but save your anger for the bad guys. The bystanders do not merit this level of emotional engagement.

(Oh pants... no idea how to get rid of the giphy.. sorry)

Sober23 · 19/04/2024 13:10

What's Kirstie Allsopp done?

WallaceinAnderland · 19/04/2024 13:16

Kirsty has not understood the impact of self ID and gender ideology on the dignity, safety and privacy of women and children.

Mostly because Kirsty is wealthy enough to avoid being vulnerable in a hospital ward, womens' refuge or sharing a cell and prison showers with a man.

JKR is also wealthy enough but still wants protection for those women who need it. Kirsty doesn't. Kirsty thinks women should 'be kind' to men.

GreigeO · 19/04/2024 13:16

I don't get it - has Kirsty Allsop come out as gender critical, but said she's get sacked for it?

WallaceinAnderland · 19/04/2024 13:18

Kirsty also said that instead of arguing and stoking the culture wars, women should agree to discuss and debate. When informed about Stonewall's #nodebate, Kirsty said it didn't exist and that TRAs have always been willing and open to debate.

Basically she does not have a clue what she is talking about because it hasn't affected her in way. Kirsty thinks the whole situation can be resolved by discussion at a dinner party.

She really is the most silly woman. Brainless. One of those bossy types who always has to be right.

She's not a bystander though is she? She's picked a side.

Runskiyoga · 19/04/2024 13:26

I'd prefer she wasn't belittled or threatened for her views on this thread either. She has been willing to wade in so that is her experience, she doesn't have to agree or listen.

Steady on now, literal violence and all that. You don’t want to find your words on one of those compilation photos of people threatening people who don’t agree with you.

‘It’s hard not to want to drown her!’ Vicious nastiness, both sides 😉

That's not how I see it.

She's not telling Kirstie Allsop to be quiet, she's calling her out for claiming that it has always been possible to have a civilised debate about this, when Kirstie has never actually put her own neck on the line over this the way JKR and others have.

Kirstie is a minor aristocrat. She doesn't need to work. Most under 35s with pronouns in their bios probably don't even know who she is, and those who do know who she is probably already think she's an idiot for her comments about how they could all buy houses if they cancelled Netflix and went out for brunch less often. So she's the kind of woman who could speak out against gender ideology and face far fewer consequences than most women do for speaking out, yet she hasn't. And now, having not spoken out against it, she's pretending that it has always been possible to do so.

It's disingenuous.

JKR isn't telling her to be quiet, she's calling her out on her bullshit.

Cailleach1 · 19/04/2024 13:35

I think this affects women across a range of financial situations. Remember the man who self-identified as a woman, wandering into the room of a woman who was to receive treatment in a private hospital. The concern of the hospital was not directed towards the well being of the patient.

I think the hospital had so much bad publicity that they stopped their appalling attitude towards the woman and finally were shamed into treating her with some respect. Without the publicity and resulting outcry, it may have been a different story.

KA said something like ‘it’s always been possible to discuss this topic in a civil way and that is what people should do” (not exact quote).

This lead to anger and frustration for many including JKR who responded with all the examples of people who have lost their jobs for discussing the matter in a civil way, including staff at Tavistock.

KA has now said some silly things about toilets, probable because hasn’t thought much beyond ‘be kind’.

It’s a typical Twitter spat because of course KA doesn’t have any particular insight into this topic, and has form for making strange comments and I am sure everyone involved has now had their Twitter feed filled with more than their fare share of abuse, and nobody’s opinion has been changed.

FannyCann · 19/04/2024 13:43

She also had the cheek to say we were humourless!

I watched KJK yesterday and thought if she decided to give up letting women speak she could be very successful doing stand up comedy.

WallaceinAnderland · 19/04/2024 13:47

KA said something like ‘it’s always been possible to discuss this topic in a civil way and that is what people should do”

This is what she said

"But the point I was making is that it is, and always has been possible to debate these things and those saying there was no debate are wrong."

She also claims to have learnt so much from Dylan Mulvaney.

Others on this board, on X and JKR herself have done extensive research, reading books and articles, watching documentaries etc.
And she watched Dylan.
On TikTok I presume.

MyLadyDisdainlsYetLiving · 19/04/2024 13:48

Why was the post deleted which linked to Kirsties tweet to the mother whose daughter is about to have a mastectomy?

The entire conversation where she’s talking to Owen jones saying you need a sense of humour about these things… just astounding. I would link again but I don’t want a deletion black mark myself…

Her ongoing response to this reminds me a lot of Philip Pullman, actually.

There's an initial, "Look at me, I'm such a reasonable person, not like those extremists on both sides" statement.

Pullman's was something along the lines of "explain the gender critical position to me" and hers is "it has always been possible to have a civilised conversation about this".

What follows is then a deluge of replies from both sides. The gender critical side explaining their point of view, i.e. explaining what gender critical beliefs are to Pullman and pointing out what has happened to women who tried to have a civilised debate to Allsop, and in both cases "don't engage with these horrible transphobes" from trans activists.

They then ignore/straw man everything said by those on the gender critical side and settle down to a cosy bitching session with the trans activists about the nasty transphobes.

CorruptedCauldron · 19/04/2024 13:50

I think last year Kirstie hopped into the debate being very TWAW (and fawning over Dylan!) but also admitting there may be a need for conversations about some issues (maybe prisons or was it sports?). She didn’t get particularly piled on by TRAs and I think she started to see herself as some kind of sensible saviour from the middle ground. However… Denying that you could always debate these issues is pure gaslighting. Look at all the court cases, the witch hunts, the threats, the cancellations and ruined livelihoods.

The trans debate has destroyed careers and damaged reputations. It’s left many ordinary people - not just celebrities - afraid for their jobs if they dare to say the wrong thing.

For Kirstie to be doubling down now, in the wake of the Cass review, is mind-boggling. I think she needs to take a long, hard look at everything that’s been going on these last few years. I don’t think she is very well informed at all.

WallaceinAnderland · 19/04/2024 13:50

This was JKR's response to KA saying no debate didn't exist.

"I'm astounded by this comment. One of the gender ideologues' favourite slogans is 'no debate'. Opponents have been attacked, vilified, subject to discipline at work, had their lives overturned and lost their careers, all for the crime of wanting a debate."
