Looks like a deal maybe possible if they don't go ahead with the contest. Something on the lines of Forbes gets a senior position while Swinny gets First Minister.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-68939241

Would be a good outcome for SNP. Also likely Forbes will extract concessions in terms of more pro women stuff. Plus it lines her up to take over when Swinny steps down probably after SNP loses an elction.

However it will make the Greens very unhappy. They will have voted to make Forbes important. Nothing new though they were happy with Forbes as a senu=ior minister when they entered the alliance.

The Greens will be apopletic if Forbes gets in. Tantrums everywhere. Big waily waily.

Bring it.

Sorry. Dbl post not intended.

Trying to decide whether it would be a good thing for MSPs from other parties to vote for Kate as FM if it came to it. On the upside it would really upset the greens to lose that influence. It would also put a more competent person in charge which would be good for Scotland short term but that might count against other parties at the General election and subsequent Scottish election and risk being able to get rid of the SNP….

Swinney is going to step up and take the blame when the SNP lose the next election, and the real fight for the leadership will be after that.

It's like Stoneybridge Town Council but with a bigger camper van.

Vampirelovebite · 02/05/2024 17:53

How did the education system do under Swinney? Shite? And the first minister he was deputy to? Arrested?

Excellent - let's put him in charge of the country. Honestly Scotland is a clown show these days.

I wonder if it's going to be similar to Ireland, in that Harris and Swinney get to be post holders until the elections, then things will change.

Just read this on twitter.

'SNP priority is keeping the GRR bill alive ready for resurrection when Labour win the GE. Everything else is of secondary interest at best.'

Source link please? Anyone can chat shit on TwiX. If this is a reliable source, it's something to worry about.

I didnt note it. It's just a random Twitter user, the point is that the Scottishgov have refused to strike the GRR Bill off, so it remains 'pending', and Labour have committed to reforming the GRA.

I find this a very worrying possibility. We need to hear from Labour what they plan to do once they are in power in Scotland. Will they press the button and sign the reforms into law?

Letters to MSPs is a good idea.

Which I assume is why Ash Regan had.asked for the GRR Bill to be taken down.

Though how can Labour allow a bill to pass which impacts on reserved legislation, even if they agreed with it? The UNCRC bill had to be amended, even though all parties supported it in Scotland, for this reason. It wasn’t an objection to UNCRC*, it was simply the fact it was beyond the competence of the Scottish Parliament.

*I fear UNCRC may be a Trojan horse

ArabellaScott · 03/05/2024 11:51

Yes, I expect the risk is a new Sec of State for Scotland who is in favour of GRR and willing to strike down the Section 35.
