How might Alex Salmond turn this to his advantage?
How big is the Alba Party?
Big enough to have any real power?
I can imagine that many people will listen to Alex, even if they are not Alba voters.

Alba is not big, still very new and has not had a single candidate elected yet. All its elected members have defected from the SNP.

But they have played this cleverly by making an offer to Yousaf that he wouldn't accept. Now they look to disgruntled SNP supporters like the ones who are serious about independence. And to less disgruntled SNP supporters, well it was the Greens who brought Yousaf down, not Alba.

There won't be a Scottish election until 2026 now, so they'll be hoping they can build enough support to get over the 8% mark where parties start picking up list seats. Until now they've been polling only about 2%.

Thank You @BlackForestCake,

Greens got seats with as low as 6.0% of the vote

SaffronSpice · 30/04/2024 07:52

All of the greens seats are regional list seats. Not one green MSP was voted for as an individual.

Impossible to get rid of! I really resent that about Scottish politics.

I’m not sure. AS has gone public, saying that HY rang him to say Alba’s conditions were all reasonable. HY hasn’t denied that, AFAIK.

I think the problem was that HY couldn’t get any deal with Alba - even if it had delivered independence tomorrow- past the Sturgeonites.

The history rewrite is in full swing. The greens have deleted their tweets about Cass.

There's a glaring omission in this article too...

'it all comes back to his undemocratic Council Tax freeze'

Does it, Ellie, aye?

Bollocks.

As opposed to all those incredibly democratic decisions like putting men in women's prisons.

WarriorN · 30/04/2024 11:25

Gender ideology has been the catalyst to the downfall of two First Ministers. How many more must fall until they realise that this is a danger to women and girls, is deeply opposed by the public, and a women is an adult human female?

Is this the same Ellie that took a much wanted space off women to attend ElectHer (encouraging better representation of women in politics)? This was allowed to happen despite Ellie already being heavily involved in politics, a union leader, BBC and newspaper contributor.

Btw this is rhetorical; I know it's the same Ellie I just wanted to highlight Ellie's entitled male behaviour once again...

SirChenjins · 30/04/2024 12:31

Men gonna men - they can’t stop themselves. If they see a woman has something they want they simply expect to take it.

Mochudubh · 30/04/2024 13:14

Slightly off track but did anyone else just see Lorna Gordan on BBC News being completely upstaged by a Golden Retriever outside Holyrood?

Snowypeaks · 30/04/2024 13:39

What did it do?!

Mochudubh · 30/04/2024 14:26

I watched it on the big telly and can't find a clip to post.

There was a woman crouching down outside the Parliament building in the back of the shot, patting her knees in a "Here boy" manner.

GR trotted up to her and immediately flipped over on its back for a tummy rub. Dog person and woman chatted for a bit then they all started to walk off but just as the humans exited stage left, GR plonks its bum on the ground just behind Lorna and has a long hard scratch behind the ears. Dog exits shot then a second later pops back in for another scratch.

Scene then cut to inside Parliament.
