Continuation of Thread 7.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

In pretty much any other time and place I'd agree with you (and with Mr Graham quoted upthread as saying that he " didn't think young women should have to take their clothes off to entertain " - I thought at the time that he was right). But the 12th is so grotesque and its enormous mega-polluting bonfires, massive littering and destruction, out of control drunkenness, and performative hate are all so inappropriate and toxic that someone laughing at it seems a least a little refreshing.

Today I was working alongside a young woman of 26. We were talking about farm animals and I said that most of them are female, which surprised her. Then she asked 'Do bulls produce milk?'. I should have asked her what she thought but didn't think to and just said 'No, they produce semen'. 26, and she wasn't daft either.

Arf! 😄

DeanElderberry · 18/07/2024 19:36

You could confuse her even more and tell her that public protests at bad treatment of bull caves in Ireland has resulted in a huge demand for sexed semen so that dairy farmers can be confident of getting (mostly) female calves.

Very funny. I remember that one and wondered if it was a parody account.

There is an interesting development re: ERCC as it emerges that Mridul Wadhwa was placed on leave following the recent employment tribunal -

Good. Unpaid leave, I hope, especially as part of their income stream is from women. I wonder what % is from TRSOH Individuals?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 20/07/2024 10:57

That's quite the backpedal.

Nice to see The Times refusing to take part in a linguistic fudge, as well. 'Man who identifies as a woman' makes it crystal clear.

Britinme · 20/07/2024 13:21

The Times and the Telegraph (and the Mail I guess) have always been pretty much GC.

Something that occurred to me last night re. the transing of very young children, I can only think of examples when the child is male (Jazz Jennings, Kai Shappey, Jackie Green and, now, this 4 yo who's apparently the child of an acquaintance of the Foxphobe). I know girls get transed as children but am I right in thinking they're generally older? Much older in the ROGD cohort.

I don't know where I'm going with this thought. The whole 'trans child' is so nuts anyway. If this is a thing, it's perhaps nothing or more evidence of homophobic parents.

ThreeWordHarpy · 20/07/2024 13:49

I really don’t get the thought process of these parents -

mum I’m a dinosaur raaargh - that’s nice dear
mum I’m a choo choo train toot toot - that’s nice dear
mum I’m a footballer watch me score goals - that’s nice dear
mum I’m a ballet dancer, watch me twirl - that’s nice dear
mum I’m a girl, look at my pretty dress - CALL THE TAVISTOCK!!!

That is quite terrifying.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 22/07/2024 08:02

Thanks for the larticles, Cake and Omeletts. I see the Graun's begging letter is based on them being up against "Lobby groups with opaque funding who are determined to undermine facts about [...] established science.' and "Bad actors spreading disinformation online".

I would very much like to be there when the cognitive dissonance hits.

DeanElderberry · 22/07/2024 08:05

Why is the Guardian complaining about the male mice? All it needs to make the study universally applicable is for half the mice to adopt a different gender. The Guardian knows that.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 22/07/2024 08:08

The Invisible Women blog regularly covers medical stories that highlight the same problem as that aging one.

I remember one recent one on Alzheimers claiming a.new drug helped 20% of patients. In fact helped 40% of men - a much better headline figure, so they should have claimed it. But was entirely useless in women.

lcakethereforeIam · 22/07/2024 12:08

I think this deserves to be more widely readm glad to see it in the Times

https://archive.ph/irqSx what happens to women who say 'no'

I think (hope?) the comparison to AfD is ridiculous, but I'm also fearful for all the people in the States who publicly regretted Trump not being killed if he becomes President again. So I'm not very consistent.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 22/07/2024 12:17

Cake was it you who posted a video of a male detransitioner who had had puberty blockers (followed by oestrogen) can’t seem to find it again and I think it would be a valuable addition to the current puberty blockers trial thread.

IIRC he was sitting in his car talking about his lack of development and how he seems to be stuck with it now he’s fully detrans.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 22/07/2024 13:11

Thank you Vegemite!

Gosh, his video is just as impactful on second view. Really hits home that puberty is not something that can have a do over at some later date.
