I'm pleased to see the emergence of the rodent-pedant on this thread.

ArabellaScott · 17/04/2024 20:53

I've been reliably informed that's in fact a lesser spotted mustelid-pedant.

ArabellaScott · 17/04/2024 20:54

Of the genus isitaye.

Zarah Sultana makes a stirring and profound contribution:

'Will the Minister join me in condemning the rise in transphobia, in acknowledging that trans rights are human rights, and in recognising that we will only deliver high-quality healthcare that everyone deserves when we respect the rights and dignity of all?'

Elevating the debate to a level beyond our wildest imagination.

Someone put 50p in the virtue signal machine again, then.

I wish they wouldn't.

I'm going to quote Brendan O' Neill again.

'Zarah Sultana the MP for Zarah Sultana'

Dropping this link in here, to the beautifully titled and apt "BBC WTF" thread started by @ArabellaScott

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5052273-bbc-wtf

There have been some great comments on here about the BBC and the role it should be playing in getting this scandal in to the public consciousness.
In a world of golden bridges, I would far rather build one right now (as long as they stop patting themselves on the back for Newsnight while forgetting what Newsnight did to Glinner.. you can't have all the Hannah plaudits without an apology to him, BBC) to the BBC and implore them to fully break this story. Yes, they are part of the problem with their reporting and programming but that can be covered in an inquiry. The priority right now is to stop more of this harm from happening.

BBC WTF | Mumsnet

The fact the BBC have not reported on the Commons debate, or generally on Cass bar a couple of very weak, short pieces is absolutely outrageous. The...

I remember KJK saying "the call is coming from inside the house".

In some cases, yes: Susie Green, David Tennant, and the parents of Jazz Jennings all spring to mind.

And the time they spend, in their rooms, on various websites and chatrooms, where a lot of the grooming takes place.

Hi @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast what is ‘the other place’?

SinnerBoy · 18/04/2024 05:57

It's a small talk site, we who left agreed not to identify it, as lots of users were OK and we didn't want it invaded.

This forum on MN has become our room of requirement and JKR is our patronus

Mycatsmudge · 18/04/2024 15:09

It’s funny to think how the plot in The Order of the Phoenix mirrors the trans capture of society. I wonder if JKR ever thought she would have to do battle with actual dark forces IRL

Not really.

The Order of the Phoenix is about Authoritarianism v Liberalism and freedom.

JKR just demonstrates she paid attention in class, may know who Orwell is and read a history book or two and understands 'British Values'.

Hardly ground breaking or remarkable or at least it really shouldn't be.

I know! I often think about The Quibbler being akin to Unherd, or Spiked or other 'less notable' or even so called right wing media sites, and yet they are the ones speaking the truth about this.

Meanwhile the Daily Prophet (mainstream media, BBC etc..) peddles convenient lies.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 18/04/2024 15:58

Actually now that I think of it, that may have happened in the sixth book...

Genius.

Are you already on the BBC WTF thread?

If so, this deserves reposting on there too. Some comments are good enough to say twice.

I do appreciate the point that all of this stuff is a standard metaphor for writers to use @RedToothBrush but the fact that it's JKR related is a lovely touch. @Mycatsmudge it was a nice follow-on from all of the Weasely fun (ahem).
