That’s really heartening WarriorN - kids getting a special assembly from an LGBT charity (under the guise of anti-bullying) prompting a rash of ‘coming outs’ is something parents have been observing for what, 8 years?
It’s so good to see various news orgs finally acknowledging that these connections exist.

The nasty wee scrote.

Patrick Harvie will not accept Cass review on gender identity

He declined to answer, instead saying that the report “has been politicised and weaponised by those who are trying to attack and undermine transgender people’s very existence in our society”. “

It’s a report into CHILDREN’s healthcare.

It’s a four year examination of whether children should be put on a pathway to sterilisation and body mutilation.

And all he can do is trot out slogans and sound bites.

He’s the one who’s weaponising children’s health in pursuit of his political goals. Contemptible.

What did she say?

She said she had inadvertently misled Parliament, due to being misinformed.

I agree with you, LoobiJee,

It is tras, and people like him with a certain amount of power and influence with these beliefs, who are effectively attacking children’s very being…

*by promoting the idea that some may have been born in the wrong body and so need life altering puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and a pathway to surgery……

without any real knowledge about the long term mental and physical outcomes, or proof that it was necessary in the first place instead of holistic and psychological support.

Well an update....

Was it the butler statement?

Ferrets in full reverse in Scotland.

Wings Over Scotland
It appears that the leadership of the Scottish Greens have deleted ALL their tweets about the Cass Review.

Patrick Harvie, Lorna Slater, Maggie Chapman and Ross Greer's accounts have, as far as I can tell, been wiped clear of all references to Cass.

I think Sajid Javid the former health secretary who commissioned the Cass Review should be thanked and acknowledged in bringing this scandal to a halt. It’s a shame he is leaving parliament at the next election as he does show good judgement and integrity. This is what he said the the BBC regarding the GIDs clinic

‘’When I was briefed on the NHS’s Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service (Gids) for the first time, I knew this was not just another policy area but a child protection issue and huge medical scandal in the making.
As Secretary of State for Health and Social Care at the time, I instructed officials to provide all available support to Dr Hilary Cass, the chair of the Independent Review into Gids. I introduced legislation to support her investigation, and months later, backed the recommendations of the interim report.
She has demonstrated exceptional courage throughout and today, her final report is published. Whilst the findings are not surprising, they are no less sickening. Quite simply, ideology replaced the best interests of children, thousands of whom have now been failed in this modern-day scandal.
At every opportunity, and in each department I served in, I tried to advance the cause of child protection. In this case, the source of lessons lies within both the clinical practice, and political culture which enabled it to persist for so long. Unless each is resolved, more children will be harmed.
In any other setting it is hard to imagine a patient meeting a doctor and the patient telling them what their diagnosis is. Yet the approach of self-diagnoses was the medical pathway adopted at Gids. This resulted in clinicians not showing enough interest in other potential factors, including trauma, social influence, sexual abuse or different conditions. Take the example of autism, which we know about 2 per cent of children in the UK are thought to have. At Gids, a review found that about 35 per cent had moderate or severe autistic traits.
Compounding this was the widespread prescription of puberty blockers. Thankfully, that practice in the NHS is changing, but huge loopholes remain in the system. Both private clinics and prescriptions ordered from abroad remain significant problems. In the case of prescriptions, someone could simply order them online to any pharmacy in the country.’’

I so agree with you. The importance of his having done this should be fully recognised.

That looks like an automatic filter which thinks you've said something hateful because you said, "cis", terf" and "transphobe" in the same tweet.

KellieJaysLapdog · 23/04/2024 13:58

It probably just AI keyworded you, it thinks you are calling someone cis/terf/transphobe rather than making a criticism of people who
do use those words to insult people.

‘Trans rights theory came out of north America. The early indications out of Canada, Australia and NZ are that he Cass report won't encourage a change of approach. They are basically saying that puberty blockers for children represent an acceptable level of risk, and the reason for that must be that trans identity must be affirmed at all costs. I'm not suggesting I agree with this but I'm figuring out what they would say if they were on this thread’’

They are trying to brazen it out but the Cass Review is scientifically not politically based so can be cited as sound evidence in a court of law anywhere in the world. I suspect they will not so brazen when the lawsuits start to roll in

I've been turning this one over in my mind for the last few days. The Cass report's conclusions (according to the Guardian precis) is that there's very little evidence that a medical-based pathway gender-questioning children is best, when judged within standard medical practice. I'm not questioning this conclusion, but I don't see that it's purely scientific: it's basically putting what little evidence there is through a mixture of science, ethics, philosophy and social values.

The point is that if you believe that gender identity is innate it will automatically follow that a medical intervention is necessarily best for anyone that seeks it, including children, as they must be believed. Alternatively, if you believe that gender identity is a matter of free choice for any particular individual, no one has any business commenting on whether that is right or wrong for that individual.

I am not suggesting that I agree with these viewpoints: I absolutely don't - but I am trying to figure out what Cass's opponents are thinking.

I also think we are some way short of lawsuits: Cass didn't say that prescribing puberty blockers to teens was negligent, having regard to best practice: only that it wasn't clearly best.

TomPinch · 28/04/2024 21:25

The Cass Report has been commented on again in the NZ media recently. So far, the reaction has been muted to hostile: the president of the Professional Association of Transgender Health Aotearoa said the report "ignores the consensus of major medical bodies around the world and lacks relevance in an Aotearoa context". Given the timing I think that was a bit of a rushed response. Other than that, there's basically been no comment in the major media outlets until this comment article today, supportive of the report: https://www.stuff.co.nz/politics/350255156/damien-grant-pay-attention-review-gender-care-youth. Stuff is like a left-wing tabloid. Damien Grant is their resident right-winger who they keep for the sake of balance.

In other news the NZ Ministry of Health has delayed its own review into use of puberty blockers. It was originally due last November and then again just a couple of weeks ago.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/514615/ministry-of-health-delays-review-into-use-of-puberty-blockers
The Ministry had commissioned PATHA (mentioned above) to produce the review. As is clear, PATHA have been instinctively critical of the review and I would love to be a fly on the wall for whatever discussions are taking place in the Ministry right now.

There was a change of government in Oct 23; the new government contains people who are outright critical of the way trans issues have been pushed; however, they've been keeping pretty quiet for now.

Ministry of Health delays review into use of puberty blockers

The Health Ministry has again delayed its long-awaited review of the evidence for transgender children and teenagers' use of puberty blockers after a highly critical report from Britain.
