Name badge...it's happening

Isthisexpected · 27/03/2024 16:25

Been told my new name badge with my pronouns on is coming next week. I haven't even been asked what my pronouns are... I don't intend to wear it because I don't hold the belief system it represents. But I now fear for my job/ stress levels are raised thinking about what's to come. Ignoring it is no longer an option...that has worked with email signatures....

What have you done?

I don’t ‘have’ pronouns. I use pronouns. I don’t have my own. They don’t belong to me. This is what bugs me the most - ‘what are ‘your’ pronouns?’ I/my is right like pp said.

Your pronouns are based on your sex. That's fine.

Then they don't need to be on a badge surely?

Luckydog7 · 27/03/2024 17:45

Look up THE list of possible pronouns zee/zero etc. pick the most batshit one. Politely correct them that they got your pronouns wrong by assuming they matched your sex. If they sound sceptical then tell them they are erasing your existence and need to educate themselves. If they quietly do it and give you the new badge then you've got a perfect silent protest. Sunlight for everyone while never putting yourself at risk.

I'd do this. ^

And when I'd got bored with zee/zero/most batshit I'd change it to the opposite of my sex. When people asked "I didn't know you were trans?" I'd just say "I'm not. They're just my preferred pronouns"

Or why not just choose "His excellency" or "Her excellency"?

The scope for causing confusion is almost endless...

So they've both presumed her sex & presumed her pronouns. Sounds a bit terfy

It's precisely what you want them to do, so what's the issue?

OxoCubeEnthusiast · 27/03/2024 18:12

Obscure them on the badge somehow. I bet no one will ask!

It's horrendous you're being asked to do this.

It's useful information so that you can refer to people correctly in the third person and not accidentally misgender them. It helps non-transgender gender non-conforming people, transgender people and non-binary people in particular. Singling them out would be discriminatory.

You base your pronouns on your sex. That's fine. That's what the badge will reflect.

SwordToFlamethrower · 27/03/2024 18:16

"I feel incredibly unsafe and outed by this. I'm not ready to come out with pronouns. Please do not assume them. Please do not put any pronouns on my name badge."

SwordToFlamethrower · 27/03/2024 18:17

Tell them "my pronouns are "I and me". Whatever people call me behind my back is none of my business."

DuesToTheDirt · 27/03/2024 18:17

I've not had this and probably won't...

But today I was in a meeting with about 30 people, and I was one of only 2 women present. I'd be tempted to put "he/him", and if I was asked I'd say I wanted to fit in with the crowd.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 27/03/2024 18:19

If they haven't asked you what your pronouns are, when the badge arrives, raise a grievance on the grounds of being misgendered 😃

ArabellaScott · 27/03/2024 18:19

I think pronouns just lack ambition.

I'm going for preferred adjectives.

This

Tell them you aren't prepared to out yourself by having your pronouns on your badge and they are being discriminatory by forcing you to.

AyeDeadOn · 27/03/2024 18:21

Could you email something like:
As a person with gender critical beliefs I do not wish to have "preferred pronouns" used on my ID as I do not have "preferred pronouns". You seem to have accurately deduced the appropriate pronouns from my sex, as I am happy for everyone to do. I do not use she/her pronouns because I prefer them, but because they are the accurate pronouns for a person of my sex. I am happy to respect that others have a different view and I hope the same tolerance can be found for my beliefs.

Not sure I'd have the balls to myself though. It isn't easy.

popebishop · 27/03/2024 18:24

Someone's kidnapped DadJoke and replaced him with an imposter! Pronouns based on sex, indeed.

The people who want special pronouns and will be mortally offended if you don't use them, will already have advertised the fact and so will have already singled themselves out.

LizzieSiddal · 27/03/2024 18:27

Tell them you don’t wish to discuss your pronouns as it is triggering for you.

That should shut them up.

It will be a cold day in hell before I fucking wear one.

I'd be tempted to hand it back with an 'oh no, my pronouns are wrong, it's [whatever] so I can't wear that as it's misgendering me' when the new one arrives 'oh no, I don't go by that anymore, my pronouns are [whatever], so I can't wear that as it's misgendering me '....

There are so many pronouns and neopronouns that you could probably go a fair time without having to wear one

PeterGabrielsunderpants · 27/03/2024 18:45

Tell them you want adverbs on your badge. Beautifully, calmly, peacefully.

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 27/03/2024 18:46

I didn't rtft 🤦‍♀️
