That whole article says nothing about being trans. You are trying to shoe horn it in. It does nothing for the actual real issues.
Same as the op. There is a reporting and then people are just making assumptions.

Don't believe everything you read in the press is not exactly breakthrough news is it.

We can and do think critically. Fact checking should be standard for every intelligent adult.

That's exactly the point. The article doesn't say anything about being trans but the article is about a transwoman. We can't believe what is being reported.

Isn't it annoying that when we read of an alleged crime of violence and a women is said to be the perpetrator, we have to wait a day or say to know if in fact it's a woman after all.

I agree that the DM article had no reason to specify which sex Carly Ahlen is, as it's totally irrelevant to the story. FWIW, Carly's LinkedIn profile specifies that she attended a girls' boarding school from the age of 8, and given that she was in the army by 1999 this must have been in the 1980s at the latest.

I wish the poster who is sure she's trans would explain.

As others have said - the point here is that media reporting is not to be trusted. I guess we all knew this, but now it is out in the open for everyone to see.

I've asked MN to withdraw my post if that's the case. I was at the event and thought otherwise.

There was a time i'd have read the headline and believed it. Now like a lot of others my mind immediately jumps to "is it a woman though?" I just want reality to return to reporting so that when something like this happens and they say they arrested a woman we all know it's a woman and that there's no chance of it being a man.

If I ever get wrongly arrested for some terrible crime I'm going to identify as cat gender on arrest so that the newspapers that go along with this stuff have to report that a cat was arrested on Friday evening over a £19 million bank heist.

There are females who commit horrible murders (Jodi Arias comes to mind).

Those cases are so rare though that they really stand out and we remember the name of the woman.

You are correct it doesn't mention trans at all. And so many other stories lately that are actually about men and not women haven't mentioned the fact that when they say woman they actually mean transwoman either. That's the bloody problem.

We used to be able to read woman arrested and make a 100% accurate assumption that a woman had indeed been arrested.

These days, who knows. That woman could be a woman or a man. Either is possible now. How is that fact not a real issue? Has recent reporting passed you by? Are you unaware of all the new stories of women apparently committing heinous crimes who have later turned out to be men?

The fact that we can no longer trust the words on the page of what was once a respectable newspaper is a very real issue.

I wouldn't have thought Halifax was that diverse, yet we had "Zara Jade", a transwoman imprisoned (in a mens' jail) for assaulting ZJ's partner, also a transwoman - you can ignore all the 'she's' and 'her's' in the news stories.

Unfortunately yes. Because they've lied several times recently haven't they.

My point being that this is one thing we shouldn't have to check, ever.

I couldn't find any statistics only comparative studies of how males and females are reported differently by the press but I believe murders perpetraed by women receive a disproportionate amount of media coverage.
