PS JKR's tweets are very interesting right now.
I expect the usual rabble will be throwing thier toys at her.

EasternStandard · 12/03/2024 18:58

Now thinking of women who were ‘cancelled’ for talking about harms from puberty blockers. They were right.

The spell has been broken a bit. Adults are just pushing a harmful ideology on children and it’s been exposed.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/03/2024 19:00

If anyone's not read the Times article in the OP recently, it's been added to.

Froodwithatowel · 12/03/2024 19:00

Thank you for sharing the SM reactions. It's sad but unsurprising now that Mermaids and Stonewall are disappointed that child protection is prioritised over ideology, and that adult SM figures with TQ+ identities are immediately signposting how to escape the law and child protection to follow the ideology.

It's all going to be useful experience for Westminster, in this and in the schools guidance and in Liz Truss's bill debate: there are no ethics. There is no capacity for reasonability or consideration of the wider picture here. As a reasonable, just and sane movement could have been expected to have listened to and understood women's voices and issues and needs, and worked with them to resolve them and find ways that worked for all, you would expect care that children have the best possible ways forward.

But no. Blind faith and sod the consequences is always the cry of the adults leading this. And law needs to present boundaries that they cannot wangle.

lechiffre55 · 12/03/2024 19:03

Anyone seen any Labour MPs comment?
Rosie Duffield has retweeted JKR :)

So what about young children under say age 5 that start puberty early - surely they should still be able to access the drugs until they reach puberty age?
There are cases of very early puberty where children need to be helped.

I don’t think that will change , this is about transition as far as I know .

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 19:05

Some actually don't believe that the use of the drugs are appropriate there either.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 19:05

But that's another discussion.

Sureaseggs44 · 12/03/2024 19:05

India willoughby is having a fit and encouraging youngsters to go private as puberty blockers are safe . Very dangerous person .

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 19:07

Lupron etc are anti cancer drugs, used for hormonally driven cancers which are very common.

They're well known to have awful side effects.

There's been a huge website detailing adult claimants who weren't informed of the side effects running for years.

So it was re packaged and promoted for the teen market.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 19:12

This caught my eye on that page; wtaf is this?

They've been trying to give lupron to autistic children for years it seems

The inevitable problems arising from adults who live within a personal reality that sets aside upsetting and unwanted facts, guiding policy and advising children.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 12/03/2024 19:18

Just want to add my cautious relief at this finally getting coverage. And on Detrans Awareness Day, no less.

I believe this is the final decision after a consultation period hence the deja vu aspect to the headlines.

I do hope the BBC and all the other pathetic excuses for media outlets go and do some actual journalism now and join the dots to WPATH. I won't hold my breath.

heathspeedwell · 12/03/2024 16:34

While I'm not surprised that the evidence shows what we've said all along about the dangers of blockers, and I'm happy that the NHS is finally waking up to the reality, I am also sad that they have been allowed to cause so much harm. I don't know how many young people have been rendered infertile and anorgasmic as a result of this ideology.

I don’t think that’s a side effect of puberty blockers??? Maybe if you take hormones alongside, but not from puberty blockers alone.

Propertylover · 12/03/2024 19:22

Dr Bell was awesome and really pulled ED up. There is no such thing as a trans child.

This is good news. Do I think it’s going to reverse everything - no, but it’s still a step in the right direction.

BettyFilous · 12/03/2024 19:22

I just listened to PM on catch-up with DH. We thought David Bell was excellent. He was so clear. Hannah Barnes also did a great job of setting the scene for Bell. Evan really, really struggled with David Bell’s plain speaking. However, I think it was good this broke on an Evan day because Bell metaphorically rugby tackled Evan’s ideologically-informed assertions to the ground before they even got going. 👏

Now back to finish reading your comments. 🙂

CranfordScones · 12/03/2024 19:24

Still can't find anything on BBC News website. Although it was on the R4 news.

Yet more (in)activist journalism from the Beeb...

From the Times article

Almost all children prescribed puberty blockers on the NHS have gone on to have cross-sex hormones after turning 17.

Cross sex hormone treatment almost inevitably follows puberty blockers.

Cross sex hormone treatment almost inevitably follows puberty blockers.

But that’s if they’ve decided to transition to the other gender. I guess 17 is old enough for them to be sure, though it’s debatable.

CackleChorus · 12/03/2024 19:30

@pronounsbundlebundle my nephew hadn't started school when he was diagnosed with pp

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/03/2024 19:32

This is surely going to be the end of the so-called "conversion therapy" ban too!

I was absolutely dumbfounded that Evan Davis didn't wheel out Tatchell, RMW or any of that ilk for "balance"

And I do so hope that Justin Webb is allowed to do a massive segment on R4 Today.

Davjavu · 12/03/2024 19:32

Any link to the Catch up interview with Dr Bell. I can't seem to find it.

BettyFilous · 12/03/2024 19:32

One more thing while I remember. Hanbah Barnes update touched on kids already in the pipeline who have been referred to an endocrinologist but not started PBs yet. She said their treatment would go ahead, if I heard right. If PBs are shit inappropriate treatment on 1 April surely you’d want to safeguard those who might start between today and 1 April? If I was one of their parents I’d be saying no.

🍿

Always, always interesting to consider the motivations of mature male transitioners when they completely ignore the reality that there are life limiting side effects to this treatment. And yet, they double down and dismiss the damage.
