JKR vs Police Scotland?

1000 replies

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 22:02

Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/trans-activists-scottish-police-arrest-jk-rowling-crime/

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

Looks like he's decided to go down with his ship.

Interesting how he keeps saying 'we' when it's just him.

@NotTerfNorCis there used to be a team of volunteers involved, when it was about Harry Potter… it’s not inconceivable there’s another rabid TRA (or two) involved I supposed: lots of the fandom is that way out.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 21/03/2024 12:34

Can I from England report to Scottish police everything a person living in Scotland is tweeting that offends me?

I think you may be able to. I’m told you can report anonymously.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/03/2024 12:38

WallaceinAnderland · 21/03/2024 11:24

The 'essence' is not the law, it just identifies as the law.

The police are virtue signalling again to please the puppet masters. They don't actually intend to prosecute anyone.

It's a bit like your mum saying 'behave yourself or you can't watch tv but then letting you watch tv anyway because she wants a bit of peace'.

It's getting very tedious and hopefully they will stop soon and get back to normal.

But I do love how he's already said JKR has done nothing wrong.

I do hope you're right.

Not only reporting themselves, but reporting each other: "She looked at me funny!" "Well, she criticised my lemon drizzle recipe!" "You started it!" and so on and so on. Complaints, and complaints about complaints, and complaints about complaints about complaints...

I rather fancy a road trip to Scotland. Quite happy to contribute to a picnic for the journey, I'll whip up some sandwiches. Maybe a pork pie?

I think the rules state you have to stop at Tebay services for your snacks, with maybe a detour to a Booths thrown in. Do not forget your Tunnocks teacakes. Otherwise you can be reported for hating the rules. Or Tunnocks. Or something.

I haven't read any HP books or watched the films so know nothing. Yes, I said it out loud, I'm weird

I can't let you stand there exposed and vulnerable, PurpleSparkledPixie. This is my Spartacus moment:
I HAVE NEVER READ ANY HP BOOKS OR WATCHED THE FILMS EITHER.
Courage, mon brave, they'll have to take both of us on!

My admiration for JKR is 100% based on her brave, intelligent, and often v witty non-fictional words, and her admirable actions.

And {double checks that pseudonym is watertight} I think she's ..um... kind of ..well, very, actually.... attractive.
Obviously that shouldn't matter a bit. Obviously.😏

There are THREE of us! (That's officially a coven, BTW, if Shakespeare is anything to go by.)

In the interests of full disclosure I started the first HP book but it wasn't for me.

The Strike novels, however are brilliant!

But even if they weren't, and I had no admiration for JKR as an author at all, I would still admire her beyond worlds for her generosity - both financially, and of spirit - and her courage. Yes - she has money and is more protected than you or I would be in many ways, but she is a public figure, and a perfect target and she STILL sticks her head above the parapet and shouts "You-hoo! Men in dresses! I'm over here!" and waves her green, white and purple flag.

It still takes a LOT of bottle. Plenty of other celebrities have either slunk away with eyes closed and fingers in their ears, or have pretended that they really do think that people can change sex. We've seen them.

I'm beginning to see where she got the inspiration for The Ink Black Heart

@lechiffre55 that's why I think it will all come to nothing

I wonder how Stephen Fry feels about the HP connection now he is an elder statesman of the LGB(T?) world.

Fine, afaik - my take on Fry is that he is one of the many men who distances himself from trans and/or women's concerns (though I may be wrong). Certainly no evidence of issues with the world of HP and JKR herself in the 2022 'Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History'

Interesting how he keeps saying 'we' when it's just him.

Perhaps he identifies as having Dissociative Identity Disorder. He’ll attempt to dodge litigation by saying his wizarding “alter” has now become “unalive” due to JKR’s hateful meanness.

MISGENDERING people or asserting that biological sex is a reality are “not and never can be a hate crime” under new legislation set to come into force in Scotland – despite media reports to the contrary, a law expert and former Tory MSP has asserted

Adam Tomkins – the John Millar Professor of Public Law at the University of Glasgow and a former Tory MSP who served as convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee when the Hate Crime Bill was enacted – called out “propagandists on both sides [who] want to turn up the heat”.

He wrote: “The act specifies that ‘discussion or criticism’ of matters relating to sexual orientation, transgender identity, age or disability, is not to be taken as threatening or abusive.

“For example, asserting that sex is a biological fact or that it is not changed just by virtue of the gender by which someone chooses to identify is not and never can be a hate crime under this legislation.

“As such, the new law is going to disappoint those transgender activists who think all acts of misgendering are instances of hateful transphobia, just as it is going to disappoint those culture warriors whose nightmarish vision is that the new law poses the greatest threat to free speech since the abolition of the Licensing Act.”

So, as predicted, it's going to do nothing then 🙄

Chersfrozenface · 21/03/2024 15:07

Firstly, what does he mean by "the new law poses the greatest threat to free speech since the abolition of the Licensing Act.”?

Is he referring to the Licensing Act 1737, whose purpose was to control and censor what was being said about the British government through theatre? Or its replacement, the Theatres Act 1843 which brought in censorship of plays by the Examiner of Plays and the Lord Chamberlain? If the latter, its repeal and replacement by the Theatres Act 1968 actually abolished censorship in the theatre. That abortion was the opposite of a threat to free speech.

He seems to have got it arse about face.

We will see what we will see . . .

TRAs have been intentionally misrepresenting current law as it stands*, so I don't doubt that they'll have a field day with this.

*eg Claiming that gender identity is a protected characteristic, or that having a GRC changed someone's sex and meant they were legally entitled to use women's facilities. These fallacies have taken root in people's minds as being truth - and in the minds of people who have access to the REAL legislation, too -but have ignored it in favour of what they want it to be.

Edited t give examples

WallaceinAnderland · 21/03/2024 15:14

I think the police and government are panicking now as the reality of what they have created comes crashing down on them.

They simply do not have the means to investigate every single report. They will have to lump them together and dismiss them.

The back pedalling is getting somewhat furious now.

Are Tebay services good? And Booths is...a northern Waitrose?

Ignore the bit about Tebay services, I realise I've been there now, en route to the Lake District. Did very nice ice-cream as I remember.

I'll bring the lemon drizzle cake, that should start the rumpus.

Gloucester services are the best. Hands down.

Nowhere near Scotland though.

Unless en route from Lands End.
