JKR vs Police Scotland?

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 22:02

Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

Out of curiosity. How does being under MET protection work if IW lives in the North East?

PurpleSparkledPixie · 18/03/2024 19:51

In the same way as it is for the Royals as dont they protect them at Balmoral etc? Or mabe IW visits London on a regular basis and gets their protection from Watford Gap onwards. I doubt we will never know as I'm sure the Met CT unit are very good at smoke and mirrors diversions. I would love to see a tweet regarding this from them though.

Boiledbeetle · 18/03/2024 19:52

Technically we are all under the protection of the Police counter terrorism units

Offences are considered “aggravated”, meaning they could lead to stiffer sentences, if they involve prejudice on the basis of age, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity.

So is IW going to delete all of IWs ageist, racist and homophobic tweets?

Sacred castes are not held to the same standards as the rest of the population.

The very thought that this might be equitable…it's an Olympics of the most marginalised and oppressed.

I would really love some sort of coordinated event where GC women all break this law together in Scotland after April 1. I for one am willing to travel!

For anyone fancying doing some accurate sexing in public in defiance of the new anti-women law there is an upcoming event soon and I imagine there will be plenty of other events as well soon:

Let Women Speak Edinburgh
Saturday 06 Apr 2024, 13:00 – 15:00
Location to be confirmed.

ÉowynsSword · 18/03/2024 21:24

Ah I'm at a wedding that day (6th April) otherwise I'd have come! I've not been brave enough yet to attend an event or protest, but this hate law has pushed me over the edge. I want to go to one now. Right side of history my big bum.

It's dangerously close to the stasi's old tactics with bonus social media monitoring added in.

I'm so so so angry they've not bothered to make sex a protected characteristic in this law to match up with the 2010 equality act yet have added in "gender identity" which is NOT a characteristic; it's just a philosophical belief. This is a deliberate attempt to silence women from telling the truth. Those absolute bstrds.

Thread here with a reminder ...

To think that J K Rowling was right in her predictions about what would happen to women and girls? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/5030778-to-think-that-j-k-rowling-was-right-in-her-predictions-about-what-would-happen-to-women-and-girls

Amazing. Nearly 24 hours later and it's not been moved to the naughty step yet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 19/03/2024 09:35

Dr Kate Coleman of Keep Prisons Single Sex and Sarah Phillimore went on Andrew Doyle's Free Speech Nation on Sunday to talk about their manifesto targeting PCC candidates ahead of the local elections. They also talk about the Scottish hate crime law.

Anyone know if I travel to Scotland to correctly label a man as a man but identify as an old black muslim lesbian and scream hate crime at anyone disagreeing with me - which one of us will the police arrest?

This seems a thorough and well referenced article by MBM in the Critic

https://thecritic.co.uk/how-trans-activists-captured-the-hate-crime-agenda/

It's occurred to me as well as going after JKR directly through this law, i would not be surprised to see them queuing up at Beira's Place come 1st April trying to find or provoke something that can be weaponised.

I'm not on X, and if I were i'd probably be blocked, but IW shouldn't be getting threats any more than JKR should. I don't have a high opinion of IW, hypocrisy is never a good look, but no-one should receive violent threats or insults.

How trans activists captured the hate crime agenda | Kath Murray, Lucy Hunter Blackburn and Lisa Mackenzie | The Critic Magazine

Ahead of the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) 2021 coming into force on 1 April, the Scottish Government has launched a public information campaign, “Hate Hurts”, showing the impact of what it…

Excellent piece by MBM.

The next decade onward saw the expansion of legislation to other characteristics, with “stirring up” offences for race extended to religion and sexual orientation in England and Wales, and “offences aggravated by prejudice” introduced in relation to disability, sexual orientation, race, religion, and transgender status at varying points (England and Wales, Scotland).

When you see the remarkable success of TRAs, I've since wondered why it's never even been remotely acceptable that people with disabilities should start reporting repeated lack of reasonable accommodations as a non-crime hate incident. If people have had decades worth of awareness, why is it still possible to be stranded on railway platforms for lack of an access ramp, or not be able to participate in a meeting for lack of captions? The NHS Accessible Information Standard is law and has been since 2016 but that's breached without a second thought.

maltravers · 19/03/2024 12:04

If the police have been taking training from LGBTQ activists on what constitutes hate, why haven’t they been taking training from other groups (including Sex Matters for instance?). I know the answer of course, only one sort of “hate” counts and it doesn’t include hate against women…

The death threats to IW have not come from GC women and to JKR have not come from reasonable trans activists. They are from thugs. Neither should have to suffer threats of harm. It must be very scary and stressful for them both.

This is why Stonewall's #nodebate was totally the wrong point to start from. Debate is the only way to resolve differences and come to agreement on anything.

Continuing to try and silence women is not going to work.

NitroNine · 19/03/2024 14:58

Any death threats IW may have received - & tbh I’m doubtful - are i. deplorable & inexcusable; & ii. feck all to do with JKR &/or any other woman. Blaming her is of course just yet more misogyny & posturing.

Doesn’t IW identify as a journalist? Not the investigative variety, certainly, or the absurd claim re: the Met’s Counter Terror Squad wouldn’t have been made. CTPNE exists for a start; there is a fecking national network; but none of them trot about after people. IW might as well have thrown out the US’ alphabet agencies because it would have been as credible. Astonishingly, those still permitted to follow IW either believe the story or are willing to claim to & I’m not sure which is worse.

(Quite like to think IW’s been referred to Prevent & this is the spin though 😂)

Froodwithatowel · 19/03/2024 15:18

As the SNP drag Scotland into the realms of utter farce, it will be important to illustrate, loudly and clearly, if this turns out to be what we all know it damn well will be - that this will not be a 'hate crime' law, this will be a 'make women do what men with problems command' law.
