JKR vs Police Scotland?

Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/trans-activists-scottish-police-arrest-jk-rowling-crime/

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

I just popped in to see if the thread had reverted to topic but alas, no. I do agree with fellow anti social pp that this is very odd. I'll just get my coat.

Just musing here but, to my mind, I think a thread discussing Willoughby that couldn’t maintain any interest in actually discussing Willoughby, and spontaneously found more interest in discussing food instead of Willoughby, would probably irritate a chronically online narcissistic name-searcher who detests Mumsnet. But that’s just a theory 🤔🤷‍♀️

It's delicious! (though my English husband does not agree!) cheese, ham and pineapple go together, so why wouldn't you? It's the way my mum made it.

Mind you, I also recall my dad making curry when we were kids in the 70s with sultanas in it - it was sort of green! Haven't continued that one as a family tradition, unsurprisingly.

My Mammy made chicken or turkey curry that included sultanas and diced apple (and we had no clue that you were supposed to cook out the curry powder so it tasted less bitter). And the level of knowledge about how to cook rice in them days was non existent.

I didn’t taste a daycent curry till my Uni days when a Sri Lankan student took pity on me and taught me how to cook a proper curry.

She isn’t just not backing down, she’s throwing down a gauntlet.

Women’s rights activism does, of course, have a long tradition of peaceful law breaking. As a woman in Scotland, I will probably join her in this protest and I hope others will too, though JK Rowling is clearly holding herself out as the most high profile lawbreaker.

Well this post isn't discussing food so back on topic then! Now, just to muse whether I should follow the accepted mumsnet route and change my posting name to chronicallyonlinenarcissisticname-searcher. But I quite like mumsnet, and also I can't be arsed.

Thread derails can sometimes be a bit tedious Utopia, but that's just a theory

Alas that name is taken.

Threads get derailed all the time for a number of reasons. Sometimes it's a brief derail and sometimes it's a long derail. It depends on so many things.

Sometimes when there is nothing going on with regard the subject of the thread those derails will be food related. It's one of the quirks of Mumsnet.

To be honest I prefer a food derail over a whataboutery derail (that on the surface is on topic but is actually just a way to get us all to not talk about the actual topic) that some of our regular, not on the same side of the argument, posters engage in.

SinnerBoy · 18/03/2024 07:48

I think the food tangent arose and lived because as already suggested, it's much more interesting than the tedious attention seeker Willoughby. As is watching paint dry.

SerotinaPickeler · 18/03/2024 08:24

Nice move there chronicallyonlinenarcissisticnamesearcher!

I absolutely recognise the mumsnet tradition of food and cake derails. This is not a hill I would choose to die on so I will leave it you gastronomes to continue merrily derailing while I go and visit the recipes board. Hoping @RebelliousCow will join me?

This takes me back to the days of work meetings with consultants from the big 4 consultancies, who always insisted on opening the meeting with very boring discussions about 'the football', which always left me tapping my fingers on the conference room table wishing they would just fucking get on with it. I'm still metaphorically tapping I fear. 😳

ErrolTheDragon · 18/03/2024 08:31

I don't think this thread was derailed, more kept ticking over on a diet of cake etc until the next update from JKR, better than spawning new ones I think.
Thanks @BonnyBo and @PriOn1 for the latest instalment, it's appreciated by those of us not on whatever-it's-called-now.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/03/2024 08:44

Yes, thanks for rail-y interesting updates. I'm agog thinking what might happen come April.

I'm hoping every gender critical woman on Twitter who lives in Scotland wakes up on 1st April and immediately tweets something along the lines of TWAM.

I suspect JKR already has her April Fools Day tweets pre written, checked by a legal team and set to post at various times throughout the day. Hopefully on the hour every hour until the TRAs have wound themselves up to the point of delirium. With the amount of reports JKR alone could generate in 24 hours the Police will either have to shit or get off the pot.

Should keep the police busy and stress test the new laws.

Hands those leaving a lunchbox filled with cake and biscuits to keep them fortified on their perilous trek to the recipes board...

Wait! There's a recipes board?!?!

I am somewhat sorry I took the derail in an even less relevant direction than cake - I'm fairly confident JKR likes cake, but not so much that she was ever in anybody's Foreign Legion ☺

When posts start getting humorous, or better still surreal, I always want to join in. Usually I can't match the cleverness, but the Foreign Legion idea came to me during a sleepless night and I ran with it.

MN has a role in keeping my head above water, mostly by reassuring me that the entire world has not gone completely genderwoo, but also by making me laugh when life feels very hard - the 'Scarper here come the rozzers' thread from last December still makes me laugh - kittens playing with confiscated shoelaces, orange not being a good colour, having to dob some fellow MNers in exchange for her own freedom 'Soz!' 😂- and has rescued me from some dark times.

I'm sure none of us jokesters mean any disrespect to the serious topics that threads like this start out with but I understand, SerotinaPickeler, that you find it odd. Please 🐻 with us☺

Can you still buy a pie at a football match?

Same here @MarieDeGournay - and I will always be grateful for the Legionnaires derail. As I think I said at the time, you made an old wumman very happy! 😊

IcakethereforeIam · 18/03/2024 09:31

Loved the Legionnaires derail although @Boiledbeetle 's contribution has got the theme song to The Flashing Blade stuck in head.

I don't know if the people who support the act will relish this or if the entire staff of the various Procurator Fiscal offices want to find reasons for urgent leave or holidays.

Can I ask, conspiracy theory, is JKR doing this to stimulate trade to mushroom farms and salmon suppliers during the cost of living downturn?

JKR has a plan, I'm interested to see it unfold.

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/03/2024 09:51

Me, too!

If it's anything like her "Strike" books she'll be playing the long game, and they won't see it coming.

It's be a last minute slap-across-the-face-with-a-wet-haddock moment as she leaps out from behind the door and fells them.

Have they not actually been listening to JKR? Her being arrested and even imprisoned plays into her goals, not theirs.

"World's most beloved children's author and philanthropist extraordinaire dragged to prison for correctly identifying sex"

Read all abaht it

Would the crowd outside be women or a startling proportion of the HP fandom that is within commuting distance? (Might include a surprising number of people from Europe and the US.)

Thread here with a reminder ...

To think that J K Rowling was right in her predictions about what would happen to women and girls? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/5030778-to-think-that-j-k-rowling-was-right-in-her-predictions-about-what-would-happen-to-women-and-girls

WallaceinAnderland · 18/03/2024 10:56

Arresting and imprisoning a woman for stating that a male person is male is going to blow the roof off this ideology.
