JKR vs Police Scotland?

1000 replies

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 22:02

Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/trans-activists-scottish-police-arrest-jk-rowling-crime/

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

I've been caring for it as best I can. It's nearly weaned.

I hope you've knitted it a little jumper.

The nights are still cold.

I can't knit, so I stick Paddington in with it during the night, that bear gives off a large amount of heat in the night. And is on hand to hand feed it marmalade every four hours through the night!

That seems appropriate.

I hope it's that shredless marmalade. I don't like the stuff myself but for an infant it's probably the best option.

That is obviously the reason for having the shredless in the house, nothing to do with me being a marmalade wuss!

The curly pattern on custard creams is of ferns, following the Victorian craze for the things, apparently:

That report upthread from Nordic Times said

'Willoughby, 58, has also decided to file a police report against Rowling for gender discrimination against the presenter, who prefers to be referred to as it/them.'

I thought them was a she / her? Has this changed now?

(sorry for going off thread a bit 😉)

India is grabbing this bit of 'limelight' with both hands and hanging on tight. Pathetic really, to be that desperate for attention 🤷‍♀️

Sorry to derail from crisps but

It's very clear that Nazi's quite liked a bit of cross dressing, that it was even accepted (I've seen talk of permits) - but it was being gay that was the issue with pretty much any 'trans' person they list as persecuted for it.

The Nazis persecuted gay men. According to this source, up to 15,000 were deported to concentration camps. 'Most died in the camps, often from exhaustion. Many were castrated and some subjected to gruesome medical experiments. Collective murder actions were undertaken against gay detainees, exterminating hundreds at a time.' The stigma against homosexuality was such that gay men continued to be seen as criminals after the war.

https://www.hmd.org.uk/learn-about-the-holocaust-and-genocides/nazi-persecution/gay-people/

There was no concept of transgender at the time. Magnus Hirschfield had just invented the concepts of 'transvestite' and 'transsexual', but he thought of transsexuals as very feminine gay men. Nobody believed in a 'gender identity', there was no 'non-binary' or 'gender fluid'. Some people we'd recognise as trans today might have been swept up in the persecution of gay men, but they weren't singled out as 'trans'. If you read up on sources that claim trans people were targetted specifically, like those linked from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_in_Nazi_Germany, you tend to find a vague lumping together of trans and gay, with no individual examples of persecuted trans people.

I remember reading about the permits for crossdressers. Even before Hitler got in, Germany wasn't a great place to be an effeminate gay or a butch lesbian: they had to basically pretend to believe that they were the opposite sex to be able to wear comfortable clothing. Having said that, nowhere in Europe, and I include the UK, was great for gay men then.

The Times have just published this

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jk-rowlings-misgendering-of-india-willoughby-was-no-crime-say-police-tfmj5g00v

https://archive.ph/bIgr1 you know the drill, the other side of the paywall is that way

Now I'm all for recycling but this article is just rehashing everything we knew a few days ago.

I can only think the Times has been following this thread, seen how badly it had gone astray and published the above to get us back on track.

The spoilsports 😡

Anyhow, it's not clear if it has been recorded as a NCHI. The police don't mention that in their statement. Also unclear when IW made IW's statement. Is IW repeating IWself or is the Times just repeating what was said a few days ago?

I think Marmites are being bred in factories to make mitemites for millennial influencers. They're all over tiktok, probably. Darmites never see their mates, it's all done through artificial insemination. The mitemites are taken away from their Mars very young, so the Marmites will come into season to be bred from again.

That mitemite was very lucky to find a good home with you @Boiledbeetle

JK Rowling’s misgendering of India Willoughby was no crime, say police

The author pointed out that her gender-critical views were protected in law and suggested she could make a counterclaim for defamation

Willoughby said. “However, I have asked for this decision to be reviewed, as I have been advised by solicitors it does very clearly meet the required threshold of a hate crime.

Hmmm wonders if IW got half an hour or paid for a full hour?

I'm going to guess JKR is paying more per hour for her legal advice than IW earns in a month, so I'll go with JKR being on the right side of the law on this one.

Have you been sneaking the sherry every time you've gone into the kitchen?!

I quite like this though, it feels like an offshoot of the haggis catching tales.

But But but....It's lemon drizzle cake! Surely you won't let such a horrible disgusting inedible, awful tasting little thing like this come between us!

I can identify as a lemon drizzle cake eater/lover if you like, however for full transparency I will admit I'll be eating cherry Madeira cake whilst the rest of you munch on something that is definitely worse than red velvet cake but as I'll have eaten the evidence within a nano second of cutting the slice you'll be able to pretend it was drizzle.

How about if I buy you a whole lemon drizzle cake to get you to pretend you saw me earrings lemon drizzle cake and not a superior and better tasting slice of cherry Madeira cake?

It will be our little secret!

What is worrying about someone fantasising what JKR "really means" is that it puts stuff out there that she has "said" - even though she hasn't said it at all - and every TRA and detractor will pick this off the internet and use it to shore up the sand foundations of their badly built "argument".

But yes - we can discuss feminism, biccies, and how to raise an orphaned jar of Marmite while providing a lounging area for cats on our laps and wondering whether to order the Suffragette tea cosy knitting pattern, and flipping between threads to participate in researching an important scientific project into Legionnaires Uniforms, all without any difficulty whatsoever.

We are INVINCIBLE.

This is why I love Mumsnet too. And I think this is why so many people who believe in gender hate it. Women getting together, finding common ground, supporting one another, getting things done AND having a laugh. This is exactly what people like IW want to be part of, or to destroy because as soon as they join in it vanishes.
Ps Vegemites are mites.
