Anyone work for one of the big 4 consultancies who celebrated international women's day with a man taking about coming out as transgender?

I generally don't care to get that stressed about the transgender issue BUT this flabbergasted me. I actually found myself saying to the screen out load 'oh you have to be kidding!'

On what planet is that right!!! Can't say a word at work as it is very US centric and obviously they think that's fine.

OP posts:

Wow. Some posters on this thread really, really hate women having anything for themselves. Anything.

And imagine having a problem with women objecting to a man who claims to be a woman, being a speaker at an IWD event. Chatting about his experiences as a woman.

Christ on a bike.

JoodyBlue · 09/03/2024 13:28

I haven't read the full thread yet (will later). But OP this is precisely the reason why resistance groups are necessary. Not against "trans" whatever that means to anyone, but because women's spaces, language, rights have been initially quietly and yet systematically removed in recent decades (since the 2004 GRA). And now, as if to consolidate this removal of the idea that there is anything innate to women in womanhood, these appropriations are being taught to school children. It is a dystopia now. Many women have been saying this for years and ignored. This type of thing is the tip of iceberg really. Professional women are seeing it as if for the first time. But those in society who really need the support of women, rape crisis, prisons, disabled health care, police protection have been suffering from the results of this ideology for years now.

It’s because of women like you, whom we call the “be kind” people that we are in this mess as women. Like you I was naive, thought we can be nice and understanding etc. What’s the big deal. Until I educated myself, and realised how stupid I’d been. Now I’m a proud TERF. And I do stuff at work to educate others, I do other things too, subtle, suffragette lanyard, which has woman definition, a TERF pin …. Best of all I’m on the totally captured Diversity and Inclusion Team.

One of my friends works for a large non profit healthcare and social care provider. Last year their poster person for IWD was a TW. This year their IWD post mentioned that they value all women AND MEN.

We can’t even have one fucking day to ourselves.

yep I saw loads of LinkedIn posts celebrating IWD, with the end sentence mentioning how much they value men too 🙄

I didn't see the other thread, but I did enjoy a 'round table' to celebrate IWD hosted by my captured government organisation and would love a rant here...

They'd adopted the #inspireinclusion tagline.
And I was mildly cheered to watch actual female women (multiple ND+disabled+pansexual/black/menopausal) talk about how their intersecting challenges affected their work - and almost all were to do with their sex e.g. person with ASD/ADHD had issues because diagnostic tools are for boys etc.

Low and behold, pan person pipes up that we must include trans women on IWD and then the chat goes wild with 'be kind' 'this is such an amazing message' 'if only everyone could be like us' platitudes (note: no notable bursts of admiration for the actual stories from the panel) and she starts talking about consideration for trans men who may 'still own a uterus'.

Look, I'm happy to discuss transmen on IWD as they are a female subset, but you don't get to fucking sideline it all saying trans women should be included AND THEN say transmen should be included too. That means everyone's included it's just another day & fuck all to do with women.

And what I hate most is that I felt I couldn't point out this glaring error for fear of my work being affected - I have to build rapport with ppl cross service.

I'm utterly sick of the simpering to the mighty peen & personal politics at work.

Good lord, you couldn't make it up, the lack of logic you describe there with the transmen and transwomen both being women!

Sorry, what? Confused

JoodyBlue · 09/03/2024 13:57

I'm utterly sick of the simpering to the mighty peen & personal politics at work. We need to stop doing it. Treat people on the basis of their character and no other characteristic. Are they good at their job - nothing else should matter. I had to leave my job because of this. It is serious.

It's not supposed to be logical. It's an exercise in control. 40 years on, it's still 1984.

Hats off to @Cailin66 - not sure I could cope with being in the belly of the EDI machine.

Been away for a few hours and this thread has grown! Lots of names I don't recognise - and I'm deeply heartened to know my feelings are shared by many. It's really heartening to see.

To the woman-hating posters on this thread: I'm genuinely sorry your personal pain has twisted into sexism but we won't be quiet. You can't bend reality to suit your internal fantasy.

Every deleted thread on this topic just encourages more posters to find the Naughty Corner (FWR) and educate themselves.

I work in tech.
Have been enduring this since 2019!!!!!

At the first conference i attended there was a panel of 4....
the 3 women got approx 3 sentances each.
the 4th person on stage monopolised the panel and at one point burst. Into. Song. 🙄
No joking. Actually burst into song...

This was during the stunning and brave apex. Also lots of chat about "overcoming".... having grown up in the oppressive regressive country that is...... denmark!

Give me strength

Yep, been there done that.

Was at Cybersecurity Europe expo last year, 1 Women in cyber event, relegated to a small room up on another floor rather than one of the main stages. 90% of the visitors and vendors there were male and on more than one occasion the vendors did the S L O W and small words switch when I approached for info about the products.

But we all need to spend the 1 day a year dedicated to inspirational women, hearing about a bloke who grew his hair long, changed his name and started wearing floaty skirts.

Flickersy · 09/03/2024 14:51

I haven't seen any woman-hating posts on this thread. Could someone please point them out and explain why they're woman hating?

Redpencil99 · 09/03/2024 14:54

Mumsnet is about the only place this issue can be discussed. I tried it on a teacher forum and was banned, and told "This isn't mumsnet you know".

Theseventhmagpie · 09/03/2024 16:59

When are we actually going to be allowed to have a referendum on this? I’m certain the majority of the country knows that what a man is and what a woman is. The country's politicians must be made aware of this before this post truth lunacy gets even worse.

The problem was the 99% turned on those two posters with some quite nasty personal attacks and a fair amount of troll hunting

thats an outright lie

i am happy to believe there was troll hunting and personal attacks from some posters but it certainly wasn’t the 99%

Zyq · 09/03/2024 17:49

GailBlancheViola · 09/03/2024 12:00

The trouble was that the voices being heard were mostly people troll hunting and indulging in personal attacks. If you choose to break MN rules and get zapped, that's not them silencing you, that's you asking for it.

I was on that thread and you and Flickersy are talking bollocks.

Nope. And it would appear that MNHQ disagree with you, too.

I am pretty sure that the TES forum was shut down for good because of this issue. I got banned anyway for stating that no child is able to change sex and that was YEARS ago!

Zyq · 09/03/2024 17:55

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2024 11:57

Women can't be shut up forever, you know.

You can report report report, and MN can delete delete delete.

We're still here and more and more of us are not going to wheesht anymore.

What gets reported and deleted is troll hunting and personal attacks. Self-evidently people don't get deleted for having a gender-critical viewpoint. So you're fighting an imaginary battle.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 09/03/2024 18:01

ive seen posts delated for saying transwomen are men

Recollections may vary.

I did see a number of posts from the be kind crew deleted, as usual they resorted to name calling and slurs.

(Work in a school). We had slides to go through asking us to split the boys and girls and then to get them in their groups to the list the advantages of being their gender which we were to then discuss. (Reinforcing stereotypes or what!)

Edited

This is likely to have been illegal.

LEA schools and Academies are both public authorities and are hence subjected to PSED, specifically 5a.

Please consider leaking the slides to Safer Schools Alliance or someone like that.

Redpencil99 · 09/03/2024 20:04

It wouldn't have happened under Thatcher. In fact, she gets so much vilification (yes...I know what she did in the miners' strike) but so many male politicians have done so much worse. Plus she was outed by her own party (males), never voted out.

I meant the plural! And men! But I use male and females generally now to get my point across in everyday speech
