You tell me

ChristianHornersGlisteningFinger · 07/03/2024 23:23

Huh? Because I like how my lips look when they are a different colour. No different to wearing a nice coloured top.

ChristianHornersGlisteningFinger · 07/03/2024 23:23

Is this some sort of trick question?

EllieJellyH · 07/03/2024 23:23

because it looks nice

donteatthedaisies0 · 07/03/2024 23:24

I read a long time ago that it was to make the lips mirror your lips down there .

winterplumage · 07/03/2024 23:25

Isn't it supposed to be a sexual arousal marker, having flushed lips?

I'd wear it to make my lips look more pronounced or fuller, as mine are so thin, but I find it just comes off constantly so it's pointless!

I like the colours. I like how a bright red reminds me of a kind of old school Hollywood glamour. I like how different colours make my skin tone look a little different. I like feeling like I have control over my face and how I am perceived. I find the ritual of putting on make up comforting. It makes me feel more confident, just like well fitting clothes do.

Screamingabdabz · 07/03/2024 23:29

I’m very pale and look tired and quite ill naturally. People tell me how well I look with make up. Lipstick just finishes my look. I always wear Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk so it looks very natural.

Which is a bit silly when you consider the range of lipstick colours. Grin

PangolinPan · 07/03/2024 23:33

I wear a full face of make up to work and lipstick finishes my face off. It's fun to experiment with different shades for different occasions.

Karensalright · 07/03/2024 23:36

@JaneJeffer i dont know that is why i am asking, on a feminist board, duh.

Thats the other thing why wear “ a full face of make up”

are we taught not to like our actual faces? Should we continue to look like dolls?

Clothes are well clothes, its not the same as make up.

Because it looks nice. Same reason why people wear nice clothes / shoes / jewellery / get a nice haircut etc.

Humans have used various forms of make-up and face paints to accentuate facial features for millennia.

I rarely wear lipstick - if I do, it's black. Turns heads 😁

Karensalright · 07/03/2024 23:45

@ErrolTheDragon i am assuming without any data that fannies come in the same variety of colours as lipstick. You know red, pink, pale pink that sort of thing….

People have adored their faces since the advent of time. Stop making such a big deal about it @Karensalright

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2024 23:46

*adorned and maybe adored too

Clothes are well clothes, its not the same as make up.

Because humans like to adorn themselves, express their individuality through how they look, communicate, play. We do that with clothes, make up and jewellery. It's why fashion is a thing and we don't just all wear boiler suits. It's something men and women alike have done throughout history.

PriOn1 · 07/03/2024 23:49

Being able to apply makeup well is similar to getting a really good haircut in that it can enhance what is already good about your appearance and perhaps disguise some of the things that are less attractive.

Attractive people do better in life. Women enhance their looks in all kinds of ways they believe will make them more attractive. It’s not that complicated.

That said, I have entirely given up wearing makeup and wore little when young. I never became skilled at applying it and it was too much effort. I do admire those who can be bothered and develop those skills though.

LadyGAgain · 07/03/2024 23:50

Why are we old fashioned if we enjoy lipstick?

Make up is fun. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy my face without it. I love the joy of painting my face - and that can be with an almost nude look as well as a high end look.

I'm keen to hear your thoughts OP?

Some women don't use makeup. Some do. Some use it only on special occasions. Some use a little bit. Some use a lot. Some might become obsessed with it to the point it becomes detrimental or affects their mental health.

Women are human beings with their individual preferences.

@ddonteatthedaisies0

Down there? You mean vagina/ labia..?

SoOutingWhoCares · 07/03/2024 23:52

Cos some of us find it fun! And we like colour. It’s cheerful.

You can paint paper, walls, floors, pottery, objects, caves, fabric…

Why NOT a face?

If you don’t like it, don’t do it. It doesn’t make you any better or worse of a woman than women who wear a bit of lippy.

BreadInCaptivity · 07/03/2024 23:56

I wear lipstick when I want to.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I just put on some lip balm.

Nobody makes me wear it.

Why? Well I like it. I like the way it changes my complexion and how it makes me feel.

Red lipstick for a night out makes me feel it's an occasion. The same as me putting on a nice pair of trousers rather than wearing jeans.

Similar to perfume. I wear a Channel perfume that my grandmother used to wear. I love it and it brings back wonderful memories.

My DH doesn't care what "look" I rock as long I'm comfy with it (and vice versa).

Your thread is odd.

You seem to indicate that wanting to have agency about what you put on your face is anti-feminist?

The reality is having that agency IS feminism when it's a choice that is self determined and for self benefit.
