Because it’s fun and I like it? I love wearing purple lipstick. I don’t think anyone would call me old-fashioned if they saw me!

Karensalright · 07/03/2024 23:57

Hello @LadyGAgain did i say it was old fashioned? I don't think i did. I did not wear make up when i was young, and have never even owned a tube of lipstick.

I was watching question time and noticed most women had lipstick on, and thought about it .

Of course I'm not in a lab at the moment 😏 it's a fun thread . No need to be so serious it's a thread about lippy 😉 .

You very clearly imply it in the parentheses in the title of your thread.

Your thread title is "Lipstick what is the reason that women (the old fashioned type) wear it"

I think she means old fashioned as in real women, not the trendy new ones which are blokes identifying as a woman.

Karensalright · 08/03/2024 00:01

@BreadInCaptivity No we are doing are selves up adorning ourselves to be attractive to men …i have done that too.

This thread didn't take long to descend into bickering

Why do some lesbians wear lipstick then?

Thats the other thing why wear “ a full face of make up”

are we taught not to like our actual faces? Should we continue to look like dolls?

Clothes are well clothes, its not the same as make up.

Never been told I look like a doll while wearing lipstick 🤷‍♀️

Make up is a type of self-expression, just like, well, clothes. It’s fine if you don’t like it and it’s fine if you do. You seem quite judgemental? I like my face with or without.

I think the bigger issue for women is social media filters to be honest - now that really can mess with your perception and make you ‘not like your face’ in reality. Not a bit of lippy!!

Karensalright · 08/03/2024 00:03

Correct regarding old fashioned women i mean bio women

Lipstick doesn't suit me so I never wear it. I only wear make up if I'm going out for an evening, and will use tinted gloss for lips not 'stick. Heavy/full make-up makes me feel weird like wearing a mask.

How are 'bio women' old-fashioned? You mean bio women as in with vaginas not penises?

LadyGAgain · 08/03/2024 00:05

That's a very different context.
To answer you in your newly explained context...
Because I enjoy it. It's fun. It can be glam, it can be supermarket. I can also be bare faced and fine with that too. HTH.

Nothing wrong with being attractive to men. Both sexes find ways to be attractive to the opposite sex (or same sex if homosexual). Especially when younger and in the prime of one's sexual behaviour.

LadyGAgain · 08/03/2024 00:06

Valid point @JaneJeffer . And for the record I'm aligning with you!

JaneJeffer · 08/03/2024 00:14

And I'm not even wearing any lippy @LadyGAgain Grin

Lipstick is designed to accentuate the facial lips' resemblance to labia - even more so now with lip filler being so popular, and kiss selfies all over social media.

HeddaGarbled · 08/03/2024 00:18

Don’t the not “old-fashioned type” of women wear lipstick then? What are you getting at with this odd differentiation?

BreadInCaptivity · 08/03/2024 00:28

Karensalright · 08/03/2024 00:01

@BreadInCaptivity No we are doing are selves up adorning ourselves to be attractive to men …i have done that too.

That's your projection.

I don't wear lipstick to please anyone but myself as I explained.

My DH doesn't give a hoot if I wear it (or any make up) or not. I'm also not looking for attention from other men.

I like my face without makeup and I like it with it.

The same way I like to wear my hair loose or in a bun/pony tail.

I like to wear jeans most of the time but I also enjoy putting on a nice dress sometimes or trouser suit.

I live in trainers/dm's but occasionally choose to put on a pair of designer heels (shoot me - I own quite a few pairs) knowing they are utterly impractical but I like the way they make some clothes I choose to wear look better as an outfit.

Being a feminist doesn't mean we can't enjoy make up and fashion.

SapphireSeptember · 08/03/2024 00:32

Because it reflects my style. I'm a Goth, so I wear loads of different colours of lipstick, including more traditional ones (one of my favourites is Revlon cherries in the snow, that's been around since the 1950s) along with modern unnatural shades like blue and green and grey. Sometimes I wear no makeup, the other day I put on eyeshadow, eyeliner, highlighter and lipstick. Sometimes blusher, never foundation or concealer. I love lipstick, I have hundreds if not thousands.

That quote about the women in Bergen-Belsen is just heartbreaking, but for those women it must have meant the world to them.

songaboutjam · 08/03/2024 00:43

I can only speak for myself, but I wear it because dressing up and looking nice makes me feel good. I don't care for sexual attention, but like most humans, I have a superficial side. I view myself more positively when I look good than when I'm slobbing around in my usual hoodie / dirty work trousers combination (although my usual self perception is neutral rather than negative).

Also I have some sensory issues, so make up is generally more comfortable than fancy clothing.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 08/03/2024 00:55

Old fashioned type? 🙄 Biscuit

I don't ever wear it, but if people do, so what? Why should they feel they have to justify themselves?!
Could be anything to do with a myriad of reasons
Feeling more confident, covering up blemishes, just feeling nicer or sexier when they do.
Sick of all the judging, just let people be.

Edit due to biscuit emoji fail

I'm guessing it's a dig at trans people as that agenda has to always be shoehorned in somewhere.
