What a joy it is to read such eloquence from JKR!

Foster mothers, adoptive mothers, none of them deserving of.a Happy Mothers Day in her eyes, then?
You don't have to have given birth to be a Mum.
On Mother's Day instead of just a Happy Mothers Day to mums out there, she chooses to potentially make somebody's life feel a little bit shittier instead
I'll never get that mindset and I'm glad I don't.
Happy Mother's Day to all us Mums out there, hope you're having a lovely day!

BezMills · 10/03/2024 14:20

Well that's your take on it, thanks?

yourhairiswinterfire · 10/03/2024 14:23

Bit pathetic if your happiness hinges on what JK Rowling, or anyone, says on Twitter, tbf.

He posted a video tweet then deleted it:

Dozy little prick.

Um... it's the people trying to replace 'mother' by 'birthing parent' who seem not to give a shit about them, not those satirising it.

Happy Birthing Parent Day from JKR!! 😆

I've just unfollowed some of the small businesses I've bought from previously on Instagram after they've posted this along with comments about how evil and transphobic JKR is. Apparently there's "literally no excuse" to buy anything that supports her.
I figure they probably don't want my money then as I agree with JKR. (Although also think this particular tweet could be hurtful to adoptive parents)

IcakethereforeIam · 10/03/2024 23:38

I'm not on twiX so I had to borrow this from the other thread. Have faith, JKR knows what a mother is and includes adoptive, etc.

JKR is at it again…
GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 11/03/2024 00:39

Had to have it practically pointed out to her though.
(I say this as a big Harry Potter fan)
Seemed too intent on getting a pop in at people for bantz or validation or whatever to think about how it came across.

IwantToRetire · 11/03/2024 01:03

Had to have it practically pointed out to her though.

It was obviously a satirical wind up as she now knows just how many TRAs will fall over themselves to attack her. More muppets them for falling for it.

How could anybody not of seen she was being making fun of the TRAs:

'Happy Birthing Parent Day' to 'all whose large gametes were fertilised'

I wonder how long she thought she would have to wait before she could post an obviously prepared response?!

'Devastated and bewildered that my embrace of inclusive language has angered its most enthusiastic devotees, so let's just say: Happy Mother's Day to all females who've raised children.'

I thought it was feminists who were always accused of having ahumour bypass. Confused

I'm not sure how in terms of her reputation or raising awareness this is, but given the shit that has been thrown at her, this seems quite a mild joke at the expense of gender fluid rainbow unicorn riders!

JK Rowling sparks Twitter spat with controversial Mother's Day post

JK Rowling has sparked another Twitter spat with a Mother's Day post wishing her followers 'Happy Birthing Parent Day'. The row comes after Rowling was reported to police earlier this week.

Yeah, that was kind of my whole point I'm assuming you missed or decided to ignore - was too busy trying to get a rise out of trans people to realise that she was alienating lots of other mums too, adoptive or foster etc

IwantToRetire · 11/03/2024 02:26

Well obviously she wasn't if you read the quote I posted so there could be no confusion, as to what she really meant and has always meant.

So let's just say: Happy Mother's Day to all females who've raised children.

Did you not read this - it was the whole point of doing what she did????!!!!
Shock

Yes your complaint highlighted JK Rowling’s point very well. I am very glad to see that you now completely understand the issue and how exclusionary the term ‘birthing parent’ is.

I am shocked by your hypocrisy though, at your performatory ‘and I say this as a Harry Potter fan’.

Do you honestly think a name change hides the fact that you demonised Joanne Rowling for calling out the male pattern of abuse and threat of her abuser, last week? You were very quick to jump into a thread to vilify her then too. You literally attempted to vilify a woman highlighting her abuse and threat from a male person and you defended that abuser.

You completely dismissed that male person’s abuse in your need to demonise the woman that male person abused and threatened.

When you're soo busy trying to have a pop at JKR, you have absolutely no clue that you've just backed up her every point.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 11/03/2024 08:41

Arf! That's the trouble when you're bending reality.

BezMills · 11/03/2024 09:07

Oh yeah she's a rank bad yin, right enough. What's for breakfast?

Happy mothers day covers foster mothers, adoptive mothers as well as mothers wo gave birth anyway. What wrong with the word mother? Why use birthing parents day. Odd.

The hypocrisy is off the scale isn't it. Don't give a fuck when it is used for mothers who are about to/are giving/have given birth, in fact positively welcome it being used by the NHS, in maternity policies, by certain political parties. You call women who are offended, upset and excluded by it nasty bigots because it is just inclusive language and the term mother is upsetting and triggering to trans people.

BezMills · 11/03/2024 09:55

What are you doing today Joanne?

Well I was planning to chew gum and give people mantrums on twitter. But I'm all out of gum.

pronounsbundlebundle · 11/03/2024 10:12

Bwahahahah.

God she's just brilliant. I wish I had her wit. I wish I had her talent. I wish I had her bravery.

Thank goodness for JKR, I hope she had a wonderful mother's day. This mother is going to be sending an email to thank her for standing up for women and girls.

pronounsbundlebundle · 11/03/2024 10:14

I think that watching JKR running rings around those with inferior intellects* is my new favourite spectator sport.

All the sports I used to watch have men stealing the medals now, anyway.

*who are promoting an ideology leading to destruction of safeguarding structures in place to protect children.

Very witty, matching JKR's faux-sincerity with faux-offence.

Unless you're actually offended... in which case I urge you to look up the word "satire". It might help you to feel less offended in future ❤

IcakethereforeIam · 11/03/2024 10:35

I might be wrong but I suspect most of the people going 'Wah! What about adoptive mothers!', don't give a shit about them except as a tool for performative outrage to own the terf.

I believe there will be exceptions, a minority, who genuinely are sincere. I hope they enjoyed themselves on Mother's Day. They weren't forgotten.

BezMills · 11/03/2024 10:46

Women who are raising children which are not their offspring are very special and play a vital role in modern life (probably they always have). Put it this way, this gets me where I live.

Come now, we can't be having subtlety!

How can one possibly manufacture outrage if one has to take into account that JK's tweet was poking fun at "right think" rather than a damning accusation that only "birthing parents" are worthy of adoration?

I'm an adoptive mum.
a) you've misunderstood the joke
b) I'm not remotely offended even if you are correct and JKR was excluding me. Literally couldn't give less of a shit

She's fighting for us all, we owe her a huge debt, and I love her dearly for it.

It sometimes feels she's the only one with a public/universal platform who isn't prepared for women & girls to be thrown under the Trans bus.
