Mention of dangerous Terf-led lesbian bar

Article here on a new trans-inclusive “lesbian” bar, with nice dig at the horrid old lesbians who may not want men in their spaces.

I guess this is an opinion / review piece but still quite surprising to see “Terf” being used in mainstream press. And I thought the Standard had undertaken to be balanced in its journalism.

How can London have only one lesbian bar?

New venue La Camionera was long overdue, says Isobel Van Dyke

There is only one lesbian bar because idiots like Isobel van Dyke helped men to colonise them all.

IncompleteSenten · 03/03/2024 12:10

The trans movement is hugely homophobic and it is staggering that this isn't widely recognised.

ZeldaFighter · 03/03/2024 12:27

Well, the proof will be in the pudding! If the "terf" bar is shunned by lesbians, then she's right. If it's a roaring success and no one ever goes to La Campionera ever again....

Sometimes the parallels with irresponsible dog owners strikes me - a huge, scary dog runs up to you off it's lead, while it's useless owners shout "it's alright, he won't hurt you!" Like they know or could stop it if the dog did hurt you.

My point being that their rights and their dog's right to be off the lead trumps your right to walk around without being accosted by potentially dangerous animals. Just because the dog is your pet and you think they're harmless doesn't mean it is and doesn't mean they have the right to ignore your discomfort. I see the same sense of entitlement in aspects of the trans debates.

The bar will be protested by the tra's to such an extent that women will feel unsafe to go there.

jeaux90 · 03/03/2024 12:32

I'm a straight woman. How do we show solidarity with the new lesbian bar/society when it opens?

I guess if it does get TRA/MRA protesters we would need to show up in force as women?

BlackForestCake · 03/03/2024 12:34

I suppose there are quite a few straight women who would like to go to a women-only bar, given all the experiences of unwanted attention in mixed bars. Perhaps someone should start one of those too.

There's never any live and let live in this political lobby, is there? There can't be a facility that they shrug and say 'not for me', it has to be either forced to comply or stamped out of existence. They can't leave anything alone.

The rabid intolerance and the obsessive overinvolvement to try and control everything is what is going to bring this political movement down. It's shooting itself constantly in the foot when a less extremist, intolerant political outlook would do just fine.

Are you speaking for all lesbians?

DreamyCritic · 03/03/2024 13:06

They said show support not infest their space.

However I am sure lesbians would much rather their space be infested by hetro women rather than males don't you?

SwordToFlamethrower · 03/03/2024 13:14

Supportive hetero women are an "infestation"? Are you speaking for all lesbians?

"Trans away the gay. "

It's horrific isn't it.

Waffleson · 03/03/2024 14:32

The article would be more convincing if it wasn't written by someone called "Isobel Van Dyke". I assume that's a transwoman making a hilarious joke about being a lesbian?

Here is a photo of the founder, Alex Loveless, and their girlfriend, Clara. The sharper eyed among you may be able to see which one is Alex.

This bar has just had a massive plug on Woman's Hour. An extended puff piece where I lost count of the number of mentions of "identity", "non-binary", "cis", and all the rest. The woman co-owner even admitted that "lesbian" was a branding exercise because it was a space for people of all diverse genders.

Anita Rani thought it was marvellous.

Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2024 10:33

I am not a lesbian but I would love to go to a women only bar, as long as it was for people born female only.

WinterTrees · 17/05/2024 10:35

Just came on to see if there was a thread on the 'Woman's' Hour 'lesbian' bar piece. FUCK ME. Lesbian bars that are entirely inclusive are not fucking lesbian bars. How are these people so stupid? Why is Anita Rani so credulous??

nauticant · 17/05/2024 10:37

Also, how long is this lesbian bars segment? It's been on for ages, with guest after guest making clear that lesbian bars are not spaces for women.

Anita Rani is loving this.

WinterTrees · 17/05/2024 10:40

'Keep up the good work!' Anita Rani fawns at the end of the endless interview. 'Come and talk to us again.'

A clear indication of the direction WH will be taking without Emma Barnett. It's a no from me. Plenty of podcasts to fill my listening gap.

AlisonDonut · 17/05/2024 10:42

So it is a 'bar' then. Like all the other bars?

How queer.

nauticant · 17/05/2024 10:46

It's a small crowd over on Twitter but the comments are scathing about WH gaslighting their audience.

MsFogi · 17/05/2024 10:51

I clicked on this thread because my first thought was 'I so want to go to a TERF bar'! I'm not a lesbian but I'd so love to be able to go to a female only bar - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the real lesbian club will occasionally let straight women in as guests or something 😁
The 'inclusive' 'lesbian' bar -which is in fact just a bar no doubt filled with men - can bugger off, I have no interest in an evening there.

nauticant · 17/05/2024 10:52

That's is the most amazing advertising for a bar, 22 minutes of fawning on a national broadcaster.

They both look like blokes to me?

AnotherAngryAcademic · 17/05/2024 12:34

“Lesbian is an umbrella term for everyone.”

No, it jolly well isn’t.
