Advice of one transwoman changed rules in single sex social organisation

I'm a member of Ladies Circle (yes the name is a bit stupid but that's not the point) Most of you won't have heard of it, there is a female equivalent to Roundtable. A organisation for Women and round table is for Men.

The basic principle is socialising with woman in you local area and if you want doing some things for charity like Fireworks or Santa Floats.

I joined when I didn't know anyone in the local area and it's been brilliant I've made loads of friends and done things I wouldn't normally plus had fun helping at fireworks.

It's great to socialise with just women and the dynamics would be totally different if it was mixed sex.

A while back there was some talk of allowing all women however they identify in, recently the national council released a Belief statement when it became clear they are allowing self ID.

Here's the statement:
GENDER
Ladies Circle GB&I is open to everyone ages 18-45 who identifies as being, or lives as
female. This includes people who are cisgender, transgender, and those assigned female at
birth who are nonbinary.
…POLITICS
Ladies Circle GB&I is a non-political association.
That said, we do occasionally get involved in campaigning on issues that affect women. In
the past this included prevention of cervical cancer, reduction in VAT on sanitary industry
and the Women’s National Commission.

Each local Circle where asked to discuss the belief statement and feedback our group feedback gave mixed feedback some for some against.

What is interesting is that they have since clarified where the advice came from and it's a roundtable male that transitioned and set up an EDI company so on the advice of one person they are altering a single sex organisation to mixed sex.

They may as well change the name to People Circle 🫣

Anyway it's really pissed me off today so I thought I'd share.

And yes I know it's only a social group but much like W.I it's the principle of it now.

Oh and I'll be quitting they clearly only interested in following what they think.

Ladies Circle GB&I is a non-political association.

Well clearly not, since it has decided to subscribe to the political belief of gender ideology. I'm sorry OP, it's infuriating that one single trans IDing person can shove everyone else's wishes and rights straight out of the window so easily, you see it time and again.

IwantToRetire · 28/02/2024 20:41

Each local Circle where asked to discuss the belief statement and feedback our group feedback gave mixed feedback some for some against.

Has this already happened or could your Circle still do this.

And any way to convey to other Circles your opinion.

But agree with you, on the basis of one person this should not have been imposed on you.

Sorry somehow missed this bit.

In which case can you let them and other Circles know and that it is totally undemocratic, and misogynistic to do this.

And really shocking that you have been pushed out of a support group you clearly value.

AlphariusOmegron · 28/02/2024 20:44

Don’t quit. Fight.

Don’t quit. Fight.

This.

We need to take our orgs back from the men who infiltrated them all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2024 20:45

One person who will benefit therefore from the Roundtable AND the Ladies Circle. I assume no one else gets to do that.

SapphosRock · 28/02/2024 20:46

That's infuriating OP.

I suggest you team up with some other women and set up your own single sex group. Brighton Sisters Salon has some great advice on how to do that:

I might identify as trans age as I’m over 45. I feel 40.

Agree with pp stay and fight.

Ladiescircler · 28/02/2024 20:50

@nothingcomestonothing yes one of our group noticed that it's an absolute joke.

Yes we feedback the only way to contact other groups is through a what's app or Facebook which is moderated by the national executive.

@AlphariusOmegron I'm tempted I'm never normally a quitter but I have a very stressful job and I'm also chair for a few trade associations, plus been fighting for SEN support for my child so it's a matter of priorities, and not adding to my stress.

Of course we all have our crosses to bare. We can’t fight everything. But…. This is important to you. Do what you can. You’re not judged.

TwoTeas · 28/02/2024 20:53

Slightly off topic but what happens when you turn 45? Are you drummed out asked to leave or do you graduate to a different society for an older age group?

chattyness · 28/02/2024 20:53

Fight it , I've really had enough of this madness

Ladiescircler · 28/02/2024 20:54

Although the national executive don't have a vice chair so I was tempted to infiltration them and then take over!

I've not heard of "see change happen" but one to be aware of and keep an eye on 👀

Don’t quit - ask to join the Men’s branch.

NumberTheory · 28/02/2024 20:58

Could you, instead of directly commenting on the policy they've proposed, take issue with the way they are trying to change the policy and say you think they need to scrap what they've done and have a survey of membership rather than use an external advocacy organization as their stating point?

You graduate to another club, I kind of get the idea an 18 year old is going to usually want different social events to an 80 year old but again seems the equality act exemptions only apply when they want them to.

They are doomed anyway the executive have been a series of Women obsessed with circle who seem to think they'll grow it to the size of W.I in a year and don't need to do anything about dropping membership, an increasing deficit and a wasteful executive with too many claiming expenses.

DH suggested this roundtable near is is about to collapse which is sad at the kids love Santa and fireworks but again the executive have been foolish and alienated local members.

My friend already tried that it fell on deaf ears, they clearly think they are the most progressive group ever.

I'll still stay friends with the group I just won't be giving them my hard earned money.

I see 'Joanne' has a background in the military and IT.

What a surprise 🙄

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/02/2024 21:09

It’s a shock isn’t it @Rightsraptor also transitioned late 40s/early 50s. Has a wife & children. I mean is there a script somewhere?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2024 21:12

"As a transgender woman in her late 50s, she is uniquely qualified to infuse authenticity and experience into the realm of diversity and inclusion"

Right.

Ladiescircler · 28/02/2024 21:23

It's infuriating isn't it, a friend told me that roundtable may have been considering kicking him out when he transitioned or that's the rumours, I don't think they allow anything but the Men who are the male sex.
