Urgh! Stonewall toxicity infiltrating everyday life. In a shop which relies on biological certainty (pets wouldn’t happen without it!). The irony. Again.

It is clearly bullying, which is almost certain to make gender-critical staff feel excluded and fearful. Employees shouldn't be encouraged to signal their ideological positions or views. Which this 1984-esque approach demands.
What a load of crap. What a shame, it is (was) a very useful shop.

muddyford · 28/02/2024 19:49

Just deleted the app. If I get asked why I shall tell them.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 28/02/2024 19:54

If you need another reason, I know someone whose small company is contracted to do work for Pets At Home. Apparently they are total shits to small businesses.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 28/02/2024 19:56

I was in Pets at Home earlier today. That's the last time.

Lion400 · 28/02/2024 19:59

Zoopla.co.uk

Will shop here instead.. Plus Indiv pet shops.

YourWinter · 28/02/2024 20:01

I worked for many years at one of PaH’s suppliers. Horrible company and I would never shop there.

Runor · 28/02/2024 20:07

I certainly won’t be using Pets at Home again.

DD’s friend is very sensitive about our pets’ gender identities though - always using they/them for each. Nevertheless, ddog remains male, and dcat is still princess gender female, despite some fairly fundamental surgery. Mammals can’t change sex, and, as supposed experts, you’d really think Pets at Home would be well aware of that.

Peskysquirrel · 28/02/2024 20:18

I just assumed PaH would be one of those generally unstressful workplaces where you could go in, get on with your job in a fairly pleasant environment, and then come home at the end of the day.

Who do these companies think they are?

Zooplus.co.uk !!

not Zoopla ..

Karensalright · 28/02/2024 20:27

To old to be arsed but if i were younger would consider organising a sit in dressed as a gender neutral guinea pig.

SpicyMoth · 28/02/2024 20:50

That's depressing, I've always wanted to work at PaH since I was little😩

Bosky · 28/02/2024 20:58

Oh FFS!!! I was in there today! The staff are always lovely and if I try to get stuff delivered to my home by any of the online retailers the drivers always run away before I can get to the door! Sodding hell!

chattyness · 28/02/2024 21:00

It's bloody endless, I'm so sick of emails about trans history/recognition/pride too . Now every time I get an email about opting out of Mother's day emails I'm replying and telling them I want to opt out of all trans ideology emails instead. I'm going to do the same with fathers day opt out enquiries too. Nobody has responded yet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/02/2024 21:08

Perhaps they are targeting the furries and pups market.

A company especially for period pants / shorts / swim wear. Doesn’t mention women or girls once. People who menstruate. Won’t shop there again either. The products are pretty bad anyway.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 28/02/2024 21:56

Is there anywhere left we can shop?

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 28/02/2024 22:04

For fuck’s sake. I spend a stupid amount at Pets at Home, including frequent impulse buys, but after reading that I don’t think I can set foot in the place.

The crap they spout about LGBTQ as quoted in James Esses’ article is the kind of rubbish that makes me embarrassed to be a lesbian.

Zooplus it is.

Fenlandia · 28/02/2024 22:10

Why are all these companies getting into these contested areas of public discourse? Just sell us the bloody dog food. Is it still Stonewall pulling the strings?

SidewaysOtter · 28/02/2024 22:10

You’d think a company selling mammals and employing vets - I’ve never met a vet yet who didn’t know what a male and female was - would know about biological reality.

Fuck ‘em, I’m not shopping there again.

Cancelledcurio · 28/02/2024 22:11

My rescue girl dog is scared of alot of males except family members that she has learned to trust and is definitely GC. She helps her mammy "decorate" the local lamp posts etc with non permanent beautiful terven artistic/crafts & finery so to speak cough cough. We go to the local market pet stall. Better snacks!

3smallpups · 28/02/2024 22:23

Can't wait for them to sell a pair of self identifying rabbits and see the fall out Grin

GreenYoshi12 · 28/02/2024 22:25

muddyford · 28/02/2024 19:49

Just deleted the app. If I get asked why I shall tell them.

I’m sure they’ll instantly regret their decision.
They’re not going to give a fuck if you ‘boycott’ them purely because of an article they made about LGBTQ+

Skyellaskerry · 28/02/2024 22:50

All to jump up the rankings then!

@Bosky I agree the staff in PaH have always been lovely, ready for a chat about my pets, and helpful.

In fairness, Pets at Home are notorious for selling missexed small animals, which has resulted in many an unwanted litter, so they clearly struggle with the concept of biological sex.
