How the metro can put out this tweet which effectively suggests a woman shouldn't be allowed to speak is beyond me. Shocked but not surprised. Comments are heartening though, as is the ratio.

I'm all seeing. I'm everywhere.

See, here's me in god knows where!

Oooh, being omnipresent must be cool, but also potentially a bit embarassing, depending on the situation.

To be fair I spend a lot of time with my eyes closed.

Which may or may not (although most likely more due to being a lazy sod) be connected to being omnipresent.

RainWithSunnySpells · 02/03/2024 17:21

Can Beetles shut their eyes? I've not thought about that before.

Sorry for the tangent.

LBFseBrom · 02/03/2024 17:31

I'm behind JFR all the way, good for her for speaking out against ridiculous stuff.

😱

I don't have eyelids!!

Beetles have compound eyes, which means the two big shiny eyes on the head are actually made out of many smaller parts. Sometimes the two eyes are each divided in half so that it looks like there are four eyes. One beetle family, the whirligig beetles, has divided eyes so that when they are swimming they can see on top of the water and under the water at the same time. A few beetles have extra simple eyes (usually two) called ocelli. The ocelli are on the top of the beetle’s head.

She is wonderful! I love that she uses her position to shine light on this crap!

She was tweeting earlier about single sex spaces.

It is possible to want trans people to be safe and happy while recognising that there are risks to women and girls in eradicating single sex spaces. Women and girls are being pressured to surrender their hard-won rights to a group that poses a proven danger to them. 1/3

The statistics don't lie. Some - not all - trans-identified males have committed sexual and violent offences against women and girls. Some male predators have capitalised on gender identity activism to claim a trans identity they never espoused pre-conviction or assault. 2/3

Telling women and girls they must accept increased risk to themselves to appease male feelings is the very definition of the patriarchy you claim to stand against. Vulnerable women are paying the price for a fashionable fallacy that has serious, real world consequences. 3/3

It doesn't suggest anything of the sort.

Really? "JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again" sounds a lot like she shouldn't speak.

How do you interpret it?

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but this has totally convinced me.

IncompleteSenten · 03/03/2024 08:05

Yeah, me too. I'm totally turned around on it now.

DayAndAge · 03/03/2024 08:20

Oh right, my bad. I mean the tweet was taken down about an hour after it appeared and had thousands of people condemning it on X and other platforms....but I guess we all misinterpreted it 🙄

Exactly what do you think it's suggesting then? Because that's the only interpretation that I can see. But if you know better please share.

So if it doesn't suggest that what pray tell do you think they meant to convey by their mealy-mouthed words?

So you should! You've been told that inconvenient bit of reality doesn't exist.

Get to pretending. Chop chop.

We're gonna need a bigger cafetière.

SinnerBoy · 03/03/2024 10:26

I've got a 1.8 litre one, but we'll have to use the small cups, to make it go round.
