Has anyone seen this recent article on the transgender (trans woman) Scarlett Blake who was sentenced to 24 years today for murdering a man. Blake also killed a cat. Pls see this recent article from bbc news. BBC news puts nowhere in article that Blake is transgender. Uses pronouns ‘she’ and refers to Blake as a woman.

bbc article here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-68401335

These are not our crimes. I am reporting the omission of the fact Blake is transgender to Ofcom. I wonder if anyone is thinking the same (about reporting to ofcom, here is the link: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/complaints )

Make a complaint

Ofcom may be able to help you complain about phone, broadband and postal services, TV, radio and on-demand programmes, interference to wireless devices, or something you have seen on a video-sharing platform.

Go for it

OldCrone · 26/02/2024 15:18

They seem to have updated it. It now includes this:

The court previously heard how the 26-year-old came to the UK from China aged nine, and came out to her parents as transgender at 12.

It doesn't make it clear that he's male though. Some people might read that and think it's a woman who identifies as a man.

AllGrownUp1465 · 26/02/2024 15:19

I mean, there are bigger things to worry about and they’ve already changed it. Seems like a non-issue 😵‍💫

BackCats · 26/02/2024 15:24

There’s nothing in the change that makes it clear it is a man who committed the crimes.

Maybe there are “bigger things” to worry about.

But this is also something that many women are worried about. Having crimes statistics assigned to us that are not ours.

Two things can exist at once - there can be big things we worry about (war, genocide, world hunger, climate change) whilst also being very worried about the more direct threats we face (violence against women and girls, sexual predators taking advantage of gender ideology, warped data and incorrect statistics, the threat of police turning up on our doorstep for supporting GC women in the media and the potential to be socially outcast for saying we don’t believe transwomen are biological women).

Youre right OP - the reporting needs to be accurate. They are talking about a brutal crime, not the frock someone wore to the Soap Awards.

pieceofpasta · 26/02/2024 15:27

They reported it on the news at 1.10 that it was a woman. No mention of trans identity.

Rightsraptor · 26/02/2024 15:27

And there they are, the naysayers - right on cue.

Yes it does fucking matter @AllGrownUp1465. These hideous acts are being recorded as having been committed by a woman when they were committed by a man and are typically male crimes. Women seldom commit crimes anything like these.

Our history is being altered by these wretches. Our future is being compromised by these devils.

Don't tell me it doesn't matter.

Absolutely this.

I've already complained last week to the BBC.

OFcom generally ask that BBC complaints go through the BBC process first, of which there are three levels, before going to Ofcom.

But in this instance it's across so many media platforms and it's so egregious that I think we need to go to parliament. Fuck Ofcom, fuck the BBC. We need an enquiry into this.

The press are lying to us. Bald faced fucking lies.

TheReflectingPool · 26/02/2024 15:30

I read this and just assumed it was a woman. You know; as reported. And yes, I was incredulous it was a woman.

oakleaffy · 26/02/2024 15:31

A murderer XY also cruel to animals
revolting . That is not an XX .

ArabellaScott · 26/02/2024 15:31

As for 'it doesnt matter'

Have a wee look at social media and see how people are talking about this crime.

Fury, understandably. And also questions about why women are becoming more violent, it's being used as justification that women are 'as bad as men'.

The truth is that male violence is by order of magnitudes more of a problem for society than female violence.

The stats are stark.

oakleaffy · 26/02/2024 15:33

The mugshot gives the true gender away.
cruel, creepy man.

Floisme · 26/02/2024 15:37

I think it's a pretty big deal if the BBC is reporting news incorrectly.
Once trust in a news source has been corroded then it's very hard to win it back.

Plasmodesmata · 26/02/2024 15:39

A lot of people don't read the website, just watch the news. This was reported on the news at 1 today, just as "a woman".
Anyone watching, would assume the crime was carried out by "a woman". (although I'd have been suspicious even if I hadn't known the truth, as a) it's far more likely that this sort of crime is carried out by a man than a woman and b) the BBC has form for lying about this.)

FizzingAda · 26/02/2024 15:48

my complaint to the BBC:

BBC news giving misleading information

Just watched BBC lunchtime news with Ben Brown on the story of the murderer Scarlet Blake. Ben referred to Blake as a woman, when he is in actual fact a biological man. He wasn't even referred to as a 'transwoman', therefore leading viewers to believe the crime was committed by a biological woman. This is obfuscation of the facts, and I am appalled that the BBC would mislead the public in this way. What happened to speaking the truth?

PaterPower · 26/02/2024 15:50

My MIL, in her 70s and totally reliant on print media and the BBC for news reporting, hadn’t realised this was a man.

All the reporting she’d read and seen obfuscated the truth so effectively that she was convinced it was a female murderer.

One older lady’s opinion on a crime doesn’t count for much. But lying to the entire population does. Recording crime stats incorrectly does. Forming public policy on those lies and mis-recorded stats does.

Dumbo12 · 26/02/2024 15:51

I have already complained to the BBC, they have acknowledged receipt, I shall see what they reply later.

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/02/2024 15:58

There was a thread on here about the murderer being a woman, stalking the streets in Oxford, looking for a victim.
People were saying how the murder victim must have been very drunk to have been overcome by a a woman.....

Journos please get your biological facts right.

Villagetoraiseachild · 26/02/2024 16:01

Although I think the newspaper being referenced was local to Oxford, so maybe a BBC journalist carelessly lifted copy from that article.

sashagabadon · 26/02/2024 16:03

Maybe one for BBC verify?

Farmageddon · 26/02/2024 16:18

It was similarly reported recently in the Times a few days ago, with 'Woman kills...' in the headline, although it was later changed so maybe they got complaints too. It pisses me off, because it's peddling lies on behalf of a murder accused. How are we supposed to trust news sources when it's obvious they are just lying.

Also, in the Times report it stated this person claims to have a cat identity (whatever the fuck that is), so are we to believe this too and just go along with it? If not, why then are we indulging the other delusions this person has about themselves being a woman just because they say so.

Why is one accepted as delusional nonsense and the other is a special identity that must be prioritised at all times? They are both just lies in this person's head.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 26/02/2024 16:19

I complained about Isla Bryson last year and got nowhere. They are too captured by nonsense.

GreenClock · 26/02/2024 16:23

It’s not obvious from the coverage that it was a bloke in a dress. Poor reporting.
