There was a thread a couple of weeks about this case that got deleted. Obviously it's an ongoing trial but it's as we suspected with the defendent.

Murder-accused tells court parents did not accept her as transgender

Scarlet Blake, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with the murder of Jorge Carreno who was found in Parsons Pleasure.

Last I checked those were also human beings.

Don't get me wrong - I think she's a vile human being who has done utterly loathsome things and I find every further detail that comes out to make me like her even less - but you can tell a lot about a society by how it treats the people it loathes the most.

Is there a problem with how our society treats murderers and animal torturers?

Fallingirl · 23/02/2024 17:00

OvaHere · 23/02/2024 16:51

Yes you can. Which is why women are chucked under the bus for even most loathsome, murderous men with special pronouns. This man and his crimes should not be recorded as female. He should not be called female or a woman.

Quite.
Even the most loathed XY person is treated with more respect than women. That is truly profound woman loathing.

HE'S a vile human being.

Vile. The reporting should have included his male identity

Absolutely. Someone as vile as this doesn’t deserve any respect or pandering to. The only respect should be for the victim and his family.

Imagine sitting through and having to hear this creature being called a woman - it’s a fucking disgrace.

mentalblank · 23/02/2024 17:18

The Guardian headline on this one, together with the choice of photo, are particularly outrageous even by the standards of reporting on crimes like these. Especially as the article even states later on that the killer sometimes identifies as a cat.

Cailleach1 · 23/02/2024 17:22

@ButterflyHatched “Last I checked those were also human beings”

Ah, now. This man said in his evidence that he identified as a cat sometimes. So, you may think the convicted murderer was an adult male was of the Homo sapiens species. However, if you are of an anti-scientific mind, and really respect the way he identified over reality, you might recognise he was not always a human being in his own mind.

So, please be nice. Being respectful of gender identity ideology may consist of saying that a cat has been convicted of this murder. A cat, if you don’t mind.

I love these comments!

Someone who is particularly worried about "misgendering" an animal abuser and human killer!

But is this just another case of a criminal using the sudden discovery of a trans identity to get a weaker sentence?

Quite right, Cailleach.

JanesLittleGirl · 23/02/2024 17:44

You must have a seriously fucked-up self-image to want to claim this horrible excuse for a man as one of your own.

Underthinker · 23/02/2024 17:59

Interesting to compare the guardian reporting of the Brianna Ghey murder, which put so much emphasis on the trans status of the victim, with this case, where they have deliberately concealed the trans status of the murderer.

Yes. He also pled not guilty, so she has to accept that too. If anything he says is fact then clearly he is not guilty either ;)

No, for once I don't think this was a sudden post-arrest conversion. I think Scarlet and his 'girlfriend' had been cos-playing as sadistic women for quite a while, going by some of the stuff reported from court.

As far as I can see The Times doesn’t even mention that killer is a man who identifies as female. (Happy to be corrected if anyone else has access).

At least the Guardian article covers this point.

Merrymouse · 23/02/2024 18:59

Igneococcus · 23/02/2024 18:56

The Times calls Scarlet a woman and uses she all through this aricle:

X post!

Igneococcus · 23/02/2024 19:01

I scanned the article several times and searched for man, male, trans@Merrymouse just in case I missed it, but no.

CriticalCondition · 23/02/2024 19:10

The BBC local news has just referred to Blake as a woman throughout. Repeated use of she and her. Didn't even say 'transwoman'.

I have submitted a complaint to the BBC about the inaccurate and misleading reporting and pointed out the blatant inconsistency with the Brianna Ghey reporting.

JanesLittleGirl · 23/02/2024 17:44

BH doesn’t have any choice in the matter, does BH? Either the murderer is a transwoman, or the murderer is a man. Or, to be accurate, both.

pickledandpuzzled · 23/02/2024 19:16

@ButterflyHatched you should be ashamed for defending this criminal’s right to be called a woman. Utterly ashamed. And it highlights your priorities- the rights and feelings women are not even on your radar.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/02/2024 19:21

The Times article now includes this:
"The trial heard that Blake, previously known as Alice Wang, came to Britain from China at the age of nine, and told her parents she was transgender aged 12. She said it had “caused a large emotional rift” and made her parents unhappy".

SecondRow · 23/02/2024 19:26

I don't think I have ever gone this far on Mumsnet before but it just went through my head today - every time you call him she you are wanking him off.

These are people who snigger about posting semen-splattered murder jackets back and forth.

Slow handclap, Guardian/Times/BBC/etc etc.

RebelliousCow · 23/02/2024 19:34

Igneococcus · 23/02/2024 19:01

I scanned the article several times and searched for man, male, trans@Merrymouse just in case I missed it, but no.

It mentions right towards the end of the article that Scarlett started identifying as transgender age 12 - and that it caused problems in the family home. But for many readers who are still unsure whether someone identifing as a TW is a woman or a man - it does not provide clarity.
