There was a thread a couple of weeks about this case that got deleted. Obviously it's an ongoing trial but it's as we suspected with the defendent.

Murder-accused tells court parents did not accept her as transgender

Scarlet Blake, is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with the murder of Jorge Carreno who was found in Parsons Pleasure.

A bloke then. Quelle surprise.

Chersfrozenface · 23/02/2024 15:24

Do we know yet which prison he will be going into?

If not, when will we know?

Male prison, as far as I've heard.

CousinGreg55 · 23/02/2024 15:38

News websites all reporting woman found guilty. Makes me so angry they are lying.

Scarlet Blake is a man.

This is not a woman's crime.

My thoughts are with the family of Jorge Carrenos.

exexpat · 23/02/2024 15:40

ITV and Sky reports call him a woman, but later add that [he] is transgender. BBC report just uses 'woman' and 'she', with no pics and no mention of trans status. Very misleading.

Melroses · 23/02/2024 15:43

The BBC seem to be hedging with Cat Killer gender, in the headlines.

But yes, it is woman all through the text. Very misleading.

I expect people will find out if they read other sources.

The Oxford Mail pronouns-in-bio reporter committed the sin of compound-nouning transwoman, no space.

I also learned that Parson's Pleasure is a naked-male bathing spot, not just any bathing spot.

Chersfrozenface · 23/02/2024 15:47

Not any more, not since 1991.

SecondRow · 23/02/2024 15:56

Not any more, not since 1991.

As in it's forbidden, or women are explicitly allowed?

It's not that relevant as they were there in the early hours of the morning, I just wondered why the OM reporter threw it in now the verdict is in, as if it had been a suppressed fact before!

BackToLurk · 23/02/2024 15:59

Guardian going with 'Cat-killing woman', which will surprise no-one

SamW98 · 23/02/2024 16:03

The DM has gone with sadistic transgender woman - the only MSM outlet so far to point to them being a man

Totallymessed · 23/02/2024 16:04

I've made a complaint to the BBC about the misleading article. You have to give your phone number though, which I'm not that happy about...

Edited

'Transgender woman' is unclear and confusing too; many wouldn't be sure of the sex of the person from that.

@pickledandpuzzled

It sounds like he was obsessed with female serial killers though. So (and picking my words carefully because I don't want to be deleted) a particularly dangerous form of skin walking. He isn't the only individual to try to become what they are sexually attracted - but (fortunately) unusual in that what they were attracted to was female murderers (rather than their ex, a porn star etc. All harmful in their own way but not as harmful). Which makes it all the more annoying he is being referred to as a woman. Its what he WANTED.

Chersfrozenface · 23/02/2024 16:09

Nude bathing is no longer allowed and the dressing huts are long gone.

The Oxford Mail reporter is sadly out of date - must have read about the history of the place and got confused in a fit of excitement.

It is now part of the Parks, owned by the University. I wonder whether the University authorities have had / will be having a word with the editor.

anothernamitynamenamechange · 23/02/2024 16:10

Normally, if someone murders because they want notoriety/fame there is a policy that it is wrong to give them fame (not saying this always works well). But there is at least a notion that its better to "focus on the victims, don't let the killer get what they want etc". But when someone who is obsessed with murder, and with being a female killer, kills someone, the media fall over themselves to validate their identity as a female killer.

exexpat · 23/02/2024 16:20

The BBC has now updated the story with a picture of Blake, and a few paragraphs at the bottom which do mention that both Blake and Bell are trans. But it is way down the story, and I am not sure how many people read that far.

The video clip they have also added at least lets you hear what a masculine voice 'Scarlet' has.

ButterflyHatched · 23/02/2024 16:32

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2024 23:26

He's a transwoman.

Last I checked those were also human beings.

Don't get me wrong - I think she's a vile human being who has done utterly loathsome things and I find every further detail that comes out to make me like her even less - but you can tell a lot about a society by how it treats the people it loathes the most.

I don't understand why her voice is relevant?

His voice is clearly that of a man.

A vile male human being. A fact that it is important to be clear on, given how court & news reports are frequently used as research sources

Yes you can. Which is why women are chucked under the bus for even most loathsome, murderous men with special pronouns. This man and his crimes should not be recorded as female. He should not be called female or a woman.
